We are going to Sri Lanka on holiday. On reading about it, I discovered that we might need various injections. I googled travel vaccines and found that there was a specific clinic for this at a local hospital. Having phoned and made an appointment to suit us, we were sent forms to complete prior to this.
On arrival we were seen on time by an excellent and very well informed specialist nurse. She took us through a full range of precautions we'd need as well as our vaccine history. She then talked us through all the pros and cons of the potential vaccines we might need. Eventually, we had the triple diphtheria, tetanus and polio vaccination and one for Hepatitis A.
We were not rushed and she was extremely kind and helpful. We expected to pay but were told it was an NHS provision.
Very helpful for us but it got me thinking that surely this could be outsourced like sight and hearing testing now is. Foreign holidays are a luxury so we really felt guilty taking up NHS time and resources.
