Essential tremor

I have a tremor in my right arm and have been trying medication to help.

Beta blockers went out the window (almost literally) as they gave me mood swings. Something for epilepsy left me not caring about anything.

So I’m not taking any thing at the moment.

Anybody have suggestions for what else I can try? I am worse when stressed.

I know 3 friends with similar problems. I don’t think they are on any treatment. I always say /joke that it’s lucky I don’t have carpets - by the time they pick their mugs of tea from my kitchen and bring them to the living room, half of it is on the floor 😂

Someone I know who has this problem finds that the tremor disappears if he doesn't drink coffee. One cup of Joe, however and he can barely pick up a pen, let alone sign his name and the effect lasts for hours.

My friend’s H has this.
Apart from the shaking it affects his speech and a conversation with him is very difficult but we all accept it and try not to “help him out”
As far as I am aware now he has no treatment but did have injections, Botox, I think once or twice.
It is a difficult condition to live with.

It’s very common but harmless if annoying for the person who has it.I know two people with it, and they don’t bother about taking meds.

The cure is worse than the problem!

I don’t drink coffee and have 3 mugs of tea a day, perhaps I should reduce this

Make it two cups only, and decaf?

My OH just bought me a new teapot - he did a lot of research to get one suitable for my arthritic hands. Might try decaf but I do like tea

Real coffee, as opposed to instant, makes me shaky and I don’t have essential tremor.

My dh has this as do I to a much lesser extent. When he comes towards me with a cup of tea shaking in each hand I hold my breath hoping it doesn’t go all over the carpet,
I don’t think there is any medication that helps.

The beta blockers work, just rub your life out

My BIL has this and has to have half cups of hot drinks as they go everywhere. He always asks for his beer in two glasses too.
