Yes i have years ago and not an experience I want to repeat. My dd has recently experienced this when she had covid and a course of antibiotics was prescribed with follow up check on ear drums six weeks later.

My eardrum recently perforated due to Shingles which affected the roof of my mouth, one side of my face and ear. It healed by itself, and the GP advised me to put some Vaseline in my outer ear with a wodge of cottonwool to stop water getting into the ear during a shower.

No antibiotics needed if it doesn't become infected.

I am left with Tinnitus/whooshing noise and some hearing loss, and have been told I will need a hearing aid on that side.

Oh dear, shingles too. Sorry you have been left with tinnitus/whooshing noise and hearing loss, it is so unpleasant, I really hope it resolves for both of us!

Both my eardrums have perforated from throat infections .

Don't shampoo your hair nor shower -avoid getting water in your ears .
You must go to see a doctor and get antibiotics .
An ENT specialist can do a painless temporary repair with a patch and if necessary a proper repair involving surgery
I had strange swooshing sounds until the fluids had been absorbed then back to normal .
The last perforation occurred about nine or ten years ago .
Only recently I've noticed that I occasionally mishear consonants.

Thank you. I am trying to be careful with it and I’ve just completed a course of penicillin.

Suggest you try to see an ENT doctor. Always be careful with ears, especially if perforated as you can easily get infections.

Thanks. My GP will review me at 6 weeks, if it hasn’t resolved.

Both my eardrums have perforated in the past. They seem to heal up by themselves. I occasionally have tinnitus but it goes away. My hearing is OK. Not 100% but fine for my age.

I had a very similar experience over fifty years ago……….and I still have hearing impairment and a whooshing sound !

Well my ear was perforated a few years ago, and the hearing took a time to return, although recently I don’t think it is very good. I have been toying with the idea of getting it tested.
