Covid vaccine for under 75

Hello
I know there has been a post on this subject do forgive me for the repeat. I cannot understand why as a 71 year old I am less at risk from the side effects of Covid than I was last year.
I believe that it is just a cost cutting exercise, as per the following taken from the Gov.uk website
For the development of advice relating to COVID-19 vaccination from autumn 2025, JCVI has resumed the use of a standard cost-effectiveness assessment, in line with other routine vaccinations in the national immunisation programme and the JCVI code of practice.
Maybe the 65-74 year olds are having to contribute to the reinstatement of the winter fuel payment. If it is purely a cost cutting exercise could the 65-74 year olds at least be offered the vaccine at cost price to the NHS, given at the same time as the flu jab instead of line my 76 year olds husband having the flu jab at the doctor then going to the pharmacy for his Covid jab (presumably paid by the NHS) so two visits.
Up until last winter they were practically begging us to have the Covid booster, so what exactly has changed.

If you do not want any vaccine then do not have one. I do not like to be called names by anyone who thinks they know best. Keep your opinions to yourself.
I met a man in the pharmacy last week who was having his flu jab, I was there for my Covid booster. He said he had lost friends to Covid who were against any form of vaccine. Take your chances by all means but if there is something out there that may help I will take it.

Slightly off topic, but warrants a mention - it may be worth looking around for a "private" Covid vaccination. Many places are asking for around £100 but we found a (reputable) pharmacy in our area doing these for £80.

Ooh! Are there DISreputable pharmacies? Do tell? [smile‎]

I had Covid and flu jab together last year. I was very sick for weeks and had to have antibiotics fir a chest infection. This year I had the flu on its own and am fine. I definitely wouldn't recommend having the two vaccines together because our bodies react differently.

I’m just 60 and got the Covid booster and the flu jab at my local pharmacy here in Ireland.
As I qualify for a full medical card based on my DH receiving a UK state pension, it didn’t cost me a penny. 😊

Begorrah Skullduggery! Could it be cost effective I wonder for us to buy a cheap day return ferry ticket and get ours done at yours? wink

My sister in law the same age as me -71 who lives in Spain is having her usual state providdd flu and Covid booster tomorrow. I do truly believe that as I said originally that this is a decision taken on financial grounds not on science or medical grounds. The sceptical part of me still feels that it is our chancellor clawing back some of the winter fuel payment she was forced to reinstate. Having said that I do understand that the NHS does not have infinite money and we are very lucky to have it, but why can’t they offer the 65-74 year olds the vaccine at cost. I am sure that the vaccine does not cost the NHS £100.00 therefore they are benefiting from saving money by not giving it to me plus making a profit from me paying for it, should I be able to afford it. I am full time carer. Who will take over my role if I should get Covid and maybe become seriously ill. I just cannot understand the government/JCVI, they expected us to behave in a responsible manner throughout the last few years, yet just changed their minds when it suits them.

Lindy - the decision is still made on scientific/medical grounds. As you say, the NHS can’t do everything. So they look at the health benefits of each intervention against the cost, to make sure that they are spending the money in the best way possible. The COVID virus has mutated to a different and less serious strain over time. They will have looked at the number of people between 70 and 75 who become seriously ill as a result of catching the virus, and decided that it isn’t worth the cost of vaccinating them all. So it does start from the science/medical data, and this gets costed up to see whether the treatment is good value.

angie121 - I’m curious, have you ever had Covid? It’s not pleasant.

When exactly did these vaccine deniers get their degree in immunology that make them such experts? My son is a hospital doctor and has to pick up the consequences of these ill informed gullible people who love all these conspiracy theories.

Is it a conspiracy theory though? It has been proved since that many of the people who came on our tv screens were paid by Big Pharma to push the vaccines! Dr Raj Singh was one of them.

A famous cardiologist also was on tv saying how important they were, until his fit and previously healthy father died suddenly. He pushed for a PM that showed that he was full of clots. He has changed his mind about them being 'safe and effective'.

We were told they prevented transmission, an untruth.

Dr. Mike Yeadon — former Pfizer CEO and lifelong pharmaceutical scientist — calls out the climate fear machine. According to Yeadon, the same tactics used to push pandemic panic are being repackaged to sell climate hysteria. Research him and have a look at what he is saying about them!

Doctors are being threatened with their jobs if they speak out about what they are seeing. Another Cardiologist in Guernsey is calling for an investigation into the safety of the Covid-19 vaccine after reportedly seeing a rise in the number of people with heart issues, especially Myocarditis.
2020 - 5 cases
2021 - 25 cases
2022 - 22 cases
2023 - 11 cases

Please people, do some of your own research - do you know of friends/family who have died suddenly from a heart attack or similar; or have suddenly been diagnosed with cancer that kills them over a short time?

By the way, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) regulates medicines, medical devices and blood components for transfusion in the UK. It is funded by Big Pharma, and the likes of Bill Gates, a known eugenicist, who years ago was filmed doing a TED talk, saying that by using vaccines and diet (they ARE messing with our food!) could reduce the population by 10 - 15%. A few conflicts of interests there?

Can't have anymore covid jabs as side effects are dangerous for me. Still getting offered it as I have a lung condition.

I am 78 and have cancelled my Covid vaccination. On researching the pros and cons, I discovered that it is not a vaccine but a form of gene therapy using mRNA.
Whilst I have suffered no ill effects, as far as I know, from it in the past I am no longer willing to take a chance. I believe it is disingenuous to refer to it as a vaccine because this is likely to make people think it’s the same type of thing as the flu vaccine.

I think 'most' vaccines have now been 'manipulated' ... I now cannot trust the medical profession at all.

There are almost 1,000 comments on here, many of them are horrific stories about 'the cull' of elderly people in care homes in 2020. Our government means us harm.

I agree re having the flu and Covid vaccines together as a friend was very, very ill after having both at once a couple of weeks ago. Separately, yes and we have had the flu vaccinations today.

Must admit I have been frightened to have flu vaccine or any other offered since what happened with the covid ones. First 2 were AZ twenty minutes after the first injection type pain to both kidneys one after the other. High temperature with all 3 which was expected. Uncontrollable shaking just down one side with both AZs lasting up to an hour day 2. Day 3 passed out unconscious in garden after both AZs don't know how long for, woke up with grazes face down. Pfizer was 3rd vaccine had temperature so thats normal, no shaking, day 3 passed out backwards and felt pain in my back. Opened my eyes I had fell back and landed on the toilet systern. No recollection of falling. As I've never fainted in my life before or since, and each episode was after the vaccine on day 3, I know this is a dangerous side effect that could kill me if I was at the top of the stairs or crossing a road. So now I've refused the flu and shingles vaccine cause I'm frightened to have anything else.

Horti Sun 19-Oct-25 00:23:16

I heard a few things recently when I was querying my eligibility for the Covid jab

That the Government had not ordered enough for all the over 65s

That NHS staff weren’t being offered it

That there were huge arguments in sone pharmacies where people were turning up expecting it to be free because of poor communication

That pharmacies are throwing it away due poor uptake

I paid £80 at a local Pharmacy

I’m not aware the cost price

Although I have caring responsibilities and some health vulnerabilities I wasn't deemed eligible as I didnt meet the new strict and limited criteria

In the past I’d been offered the pneumonia jab as I was a carer

Kimski44 Sun 19-Oct-25 05:41:51

If anyone knows the answer to this, I’d be very grateful:- how do you know if you are immunocompromised? I have been on high dose steroids for 5 weeks (40mg prednisolone) only just tapering down now, whilst still remaining relatively high dose until early next year (it’ll take a year to come off them altogether). I’m 66 and have recently just had the flu jab only.

Exactly, my daughter is an anaesthetist and works in NHS hospitals in the South of England. We have heard exactly what went on and the fact is that the unvaccinated made up aa disproportionally large number of the Covid deaths. I hate the moral injury done to our medic kids, they were sent in with inadequate PPE to deal with a novel and unknown virus in 2020/21. I have zero time for all these anti-science people posting absolute cr@p on the subject.

The guide here is the Green Book Table 3.

Autumn 2025

The committee has recommended that those eligible for COVID-19 vaccination are:

● adults aged 75 years and over
● residents in a care home for older adults
● individuals aged 6 months and over who are immunosupressed (as defined in the
"immunosuppression" row of table 3 and table 4)

Table reproduced here.

Margiknot Sun 19-Oct-25 11:14:53

Kimsky I can’t find it now but I think you might be eligible as you’ve been on prednisone for over a month. I can’t remember the exact number of days but know my number of days (20) fell short!

Margiknot Sun 19-Oct-25 11:26:08

Kimsky it’s in table 3 of the green book link ‘more than a month’ dose of 20mg or higher.

Thank you, Auntie...........Auntie Vaxxer

Not all who refuse to have the covid jab are anti Vaxers,!

We have a choice.

I’m a nurse & refused the vaccine, I’ve had all my immunisation’s, but for a virus which has a 98% recovery rate & a vaccine which doesn’t prevent, why would I?

Absolutely ridiculous to immunise ( I use this term loosely!) the healthy, by all means try to immunise the vulnerable but we must look beyond the scare tactic’s & ask why?

There’s so much research from very credible sources to help you decide what’s best for you.

But we have a choice.

Allira Sun 19-Oct-25 11:39:20

I do wonder why so many Covid vaccinations are needed to maintain immunity.
Does that mean it is fairly ineffective as a preventative measure?

I know a couple who have had eight Covid vaccinations each so far and have become more and more ill. Whether that is because they have had Covid too or not (which they have), I do not know.

We all have choice, I refuse to have the so called vaccine but many do , fighting amongst ourselves is pointless really.

The mRNA which concerns you so much is being developed thankfully for effective cancer treatments which at some point you may be grateful for. Cancer affects 1:2 people now.

No she can’t because she thinks it is the same as DNA sadly

Sadly I am unsurprised you are a nurse. look at that Kay Allison "Kate" Shemirani struck off nurse who managed to kill her own daughter.
