One thing after another

I'm having a bit of a bad time this Christmas and New Year. First it was a really nasty, seemingly everlasting cold, the remnants of which are still around after nearly 3 weeks and then on Friday my stomach exploded both upwards and downwards for several hours. I had been feeling vaguely nauseous for a couple of days but wasn't expecting that! I am still uncomfortable. I managed some soup today but I'm not hungry. I am trying to drink enough liquids to make up for the loss. I can think of better ways to lose weight!
So many nasty bugs around at the moment.

I had it before Christmas and it lasted the whole 3 weeks and then upsets your stomach. I still have a bit of a wheeze and it started in November. My husband had it all over Christmas too and is still very tight chested but also upset stomach. I wondered if it was covid tbh. It also had a throw in of vertigo at one point, which was nice sad

I did have a bit of an upset tum with the cold (mine also lasted nearly 3 weeks) which I put down to the amount of gunge I couldn't help swallowing but I think Friday's violent eruptions akin to tsunamis are something different - and very contagious it seems! My daughter took me to the Chiropodist and was still in the house when it started - and she now has it. I am just hoping the Chiropodist is all right...

Is it Norovirus? It is a bug that is prevalent in winter and doctors and hospitals issue warnings about it.

Like others we have had the cold, we are 3 days in at the moment and I thought we were in recovery.

Sounds like Novovirus I picked it taking DH to an appointment last year, I think it was from the lift buttons, as I pressed them not DH and there were a lot of people in the medical centre sneezing and wearing masks, he did pick it up but not quite as bad a me and considering he has more health problems was a wonder. It took us nearly a week to start feeling better.

I take high strength d3+K2, Zinc and sometimes vitamin c. Not had a cold in 7 years. No flu jab or anything else. I just don’t feel I need it.

I had a cough for three and a half weeks - one of those where you cough for twenty minutes at a time! No cough medicine worked. Now it has finally gone.

Thankfully, I escaped the tummy bug!

I had a cold and cough in the run up to Christmas so was relieved to be well enough to travel to Yorkshire for the planned visit to family, especially after spending Christmas alone last year due to getting covid!
The journey exhausted me and I had little appetite but simply put it down to tiredness after the journey and my medication - I'm on Ozempic for diabetes.
On Christmas day, after feeling fine at breakfast and having been to church, we had a seafood lunch which I really enjoyed. Mid afternoon I suddenly felt unwell and had a similar experience to the OP. No=one else was ill so clearly nothing wrong with DS's food. A few hours later I was relieved to have my appetite back in time for the roast dinner in the evening. I worried about eating in case I suffered a repeat, but cautiously enjoyed roast duck with all the accompaniements. Thankfully I was fine and still don't know why I suffered such a horrible experience. I cintinue to blame the ozempic which does occasionally have dramatic effects on my digestive system, but this was extreme. DS was worried he'd caused it but no-one else suffered at all so it must be my medication. I'd like to stop taking it but worry about putting back the weight I've lost on it! I've reduced my dose but already have gained a couple of pounds.
My cold and cough are still lingering slightly and this cold snap seems to make thing worse. Roll on Spring and hopefully all these bugs will be gone.

As do I and I am on my 4th cold this winter. My son who lives with me never catches them, whereas I seem to be a virus sponge.

I had the 3 week cold and felt so weary all the time. I did a covid test, fortunately it came up negative. I have several friends who have had this , only 1 had a tummy upset. Perhaps it's an unfortunate coincidence?Hope you feel better soon.

Sounds as if your system is run down and you need to work on getting your immune system healthy.
Daily Vit D helps during the winter months.

We've been taking D3 with K2 daily now since I came down violently with the flu in 2017. We're now on 10,000iu & 400/450mcg respectively. No colds, 'flu, or so-called Covid viruses since. No side effects.

A neighbour knocked today, to return something he had borrowed and when I told him he said "You too?". He had the everlasting cold before Christmas and suspected it was in fact Covid although he had no test available. As it mutates, the tests don't always pick it up if the kit isn't new.

He has avoided the Sickness but said Norovirus is rampaging around the neighbourhood. If that is what I have had/got then I am getting off lightly. The tsunami symptoms were short lived, however 3 days later I still feel really nauseus, stay in the house and go nowhere without my bucket - just in case. I weighed myself today and I have lost nearly 4 lbs since Thursday, although I am able to eat small amounts of bland foods and I am trying to keep myself hydrated.

RillaofIngleside Mon 05-Jan-26 17:51:46

I had the dreadful cold for two weeks, but it has left me with a banging headache and occasional vertigo. Luckily not the upset stomach. Before that, hadn't had a cold for several years.

RillaofIngleside Mon 05-Jan-26 17:52:21

Not covid, we tested.

Alison333 Mon 05-Jan-26 18:22:34

Could be the new Superflu which is doing the rounds. It involves usual flu symptoms plus upset stomachs.

Whatever it is, I wish it would go away.

My food caddy will be unusually full this coming rubbish collection day. So much has already gone too far out of date. My fridge is nearly bare, I have a single tin of soup, the bread is getting crispy and I have nothing to put in it except some cheese, and I have had to cut the mould of that already. I have no-one to shop for me. I am hoping I will feel up to the 15 minute walk to Aldi tomorrow.

Definitely something going around; DH got the worst diarrhoea I’ve ever seen on the 28th. We had to isolate from our guests: one son took his family back home, the other moved his wife and our baby granddaughter into an Airbnb. Still no appetite by new year and we were all in bed by 10!

theworriedwell Mon 05-Jan-26 20:24:18

I've got a cold sore up my nose. It's horrible.

When I was ill a while back I got a same day delivery from Iceland. Bread milk cheese fruit some ready meals. Got me through. If you aren't up to going out it might be worth a try.

Isn't it. In recent years I have begun to get cold sores in and around my nose rather than on my lips. I have no idea why. I usally get them when I have a cold - like now and constant needing to blow my nose makes the situation worse.

I can rmeember one of my aunts having the same problem as she got older.

You could do an order from a local shop. Just Eat gives you a choice of shops.

M0nica Tue 06-Jan-26 12:17:21

Aely Speak to Age UK. Many places have volunteer shoppers. I have a friend, who is housebound, and whom I used to shop for until we moved. She cannot leave the house and has a volunteer comes each week to shop for her.
