Overactive bladder

Try avoiding all irritants; caffeine, alcohol, citrus in any form, tomatoes, pineapple, strawberries.

Also lower your sugar/carb intake.

Have you tried ovestin cream. This helped me so much as the overactive bladder was the start of the perimenopause for me.

Pharmacists cannot seem to get ovestin cream, I was taking it. I use a tablet now which is inserted. Seeing a urigynaecologist soon. Fingers crossed!

I also have to get out at night at least four times, to have a brief pee. Has anybody found help with this, other than horrid tablets which dry up your mouth totally?

Could this actually be an infection? Sometimes this frequent urge can be the only symptom. Other things that come to mind are hormonal, stress, anxiety, drinking caffeine close to bedtime, or any other drink that has the potential to irritate the bladder.

If you have already consulted your GP and whatever he/she prescribed isn't solving the problem, then pester the doctor again, and start a diary of what you eat and drink, because the problem might be caused by an allergic reaction to foodstuffs.

Surely, we all remember the fizzy drinks of our childhood that caused as to need to wee almost immediately?

Are you on meds for irritable bladder?
You could ask the Gp for referral to see a urologist.
I have yearly Botox injections in my bladder which work very well.
The meds which I have tried, nearly all, can irritate the eyes causing blurriness.
Also can bump up your BP.

I think Ovestin has been rebranded but you should be able get another cream containing Estriol which is the active ingredient.

There are a number of medications for overactive bladder nowadays which have less of the anticholinergic side effects.

Gp gave me some solifenacin, but I still woke up to wee! Mirabegron can raise blood pressure which I also have.

"Jude" bladder suplements have impressed me, my symptoms are much improved

My GP gives me an estrogen cream which goes in twice a week. It definitely helps.

I have a dry mouth in part at least due to my diabetes medication, I’ve tried mouth sprays but don’t like the feel of it in my mouth I now use Salivix dry mouth relief pastilles which are very helpful in relieving my symptoms (I buy them from Amazon)

Pumpkin seed oil capsules are wonderful! Work for me anyway

I’ve been taking pumpkin and soya capsules for months but am still needing a wee several times a night.

Nothing has helped my Irritable Bladder so far. Been on Regurin for years which doesn't seem to work any morem
Been on a waiting list for over a year for an Incontinence Clinic appointment. I live in hope.

pelvis floor exercises are the only things which really help. Botox if you qualify but there is a risk of self catheterising afterwards so not everyone is a suitable patient. Tablets dry you up I take one and was prescribed a second but had to stop after a week I even lost my voice they made me that dry

I take that but get a very dry mouth, we all react differently

I have extremely dry mouth problems and have been using XYLIMELTS which are stick on tablets for the inside of your gum and produce saliva making your mouth much more comfortable for a few hours. Also I use ORALIEVE toothpaste, spray and suck their new pastels for my mouth. Allare exellent products for dry mouth.

That pushed up my blood pressure.

My lovely locum GP referred me to a urology specialist.

Estriol cream, HRT patches - lowered hormones is a factor
Scan (that was fun, eye inserted) check for damage/polyps etc
Recommend reducing/cutting out caffeine
Recommend exercise by gently stopping mid flow, but not straining - upbringing of going "just in case" before leaving home is a cause
Check on your stitches etc/ damage in childbirth (my 28 was a factor)
Prescription for Microbegron to relax the muscles retraining them

All the suggestions here are good for irritated bladder or mild incontinence. My understanding of overactive bladder is that the nerves controlling it send messages to the brain that the bladder is full and needs to be emptied when in fact it isnt full,so leading to frequent unnecessary trip to the toilet. Sometimes prolonged release tablets can minimise dry mouth.
