I’ve felt poorly for 2 weeks but not enough to go to doctor.Typical cold but some days it feels like flu .No energy ,
from speaking to friends and family it lasts for 3 or 4 weeks.Miserable.

Oh bad luck. That is miserable. But the sun is trying to make an appearance and hopefully you can do a bit of recouperating outside.

How horrible for you . I know covid is still around yet no one seems to test for it. I guess it will always be around . I hope you get well and strong soon .

Viruses can really knock the stuffing out of us.
Hope you soon begin to recover. flowers

Yes it does last about a month. My Dd had it and ended up in hospital as her immune system is shot. This her 5th week. Better but not 100%.
Just let it take its course, rest up and keep hydrated.

Have you done a lateral flow test

My poor DD is like this, got it from her DS at nursery, she has been staying away so we don’t get it because my DH is vulnerable, but is weeks now. She has been to GP who couldn’t do much, she doesn’t need antibiotics or anything, is presently taking Feroglobin and trying to rest but still working and has the little one.
It sounds horrible, but she did a covid test twice but was negative. SiL thankfully didn’t get it .

I've had it, horrible head cold but no energy, so I slept when needed and let it run it's course, gave myself a good talking to as when younger I'd have just got on with it but now I'm older it's all about taking care of yourself,I've still got sniffles but feel so much better after two weeks

pably15 Thu 05-Mar-26 11:13:08

oh take care of yourself, and hope you feel better soon..

Esmay Thu 05-Mar-26 12:12:25

It could be Covid or it could be flu.

I crawled around through Christnas ,New Year and have only got my energy back since mid February .

I took Vitamin C plus zinc and echinacea .
I drank soup most meals.
I watched TV a lot .

Other people have complained about feeling really ill for weeks .

It's really not funny.

Just take it easy .
Relax .
Rest.
Take analgesia and vitamins and keep your fluids up with natural fruit juice and home made soups .

Get Well soon .💐

Just cancelled our holiday because DH has a rotten cough & chest infection. I hope insurance pay out but it didn’t seem fair to other travellers & he is properly feeling rotten. Started as a cold. It’s grim. Never known him be in bed for 3 days! Hope you’re all taking it easy & it’s gone quickly.

I’m on the third week of whatever I have. First week of nose running like a tap, second week of coughing plus nose running with fatigue and now I am feeling a bit better, but still coughing and horrible cattargh(spelling?). My friend is very encouraging, she says that I am getting old before my time! I just had my 70th birthday and she is older than me by a few years. The thing is I went on a 5 mile walk with my daughter’s family the week that I started this so I was pretty fit. I’m hoping that I can get back to that level of fitness soon.

I got it early in February from family. It’s been the worst illness I’ve ever had (lucky me usually). In bed for 3 weeks, terrible cough which could go on for an hour at a time. Symptoms went by about 4 weeks but fatigue is ongoing.

sazz1 Sun 08-Mar-26 14:56:53

Yes I had similar. It was too bad for a cold but not ill enough for flu ie only temperature for one day, no aching joints like you have with flu. I was ill for just over 2 weeks.

Yes I had that last autumn. It went on for so long! I couldn't believe it. I was so sure I'd be better soon but I just wasn't. It lasted about a month. It was miserable. I hope you feel much better soon.

SpringsEternal Sun 08-Mar-26 16:08:58

Yes, in bed for 6 days; aching all over, filthy cough, streaming nose, desperately tired, legs like jelly.

RosiesMawagain Sun 08-Mar-26 16:39:45

Sounds to me like RSV which the NHS app has been warning us about since last autumn.

The Dangers of RSV for Older Adults and Tips For Prevention...
RSV in the elderly can cause severe lower respiratory tract illness, including pneumonia, leading to significant hospitalization and death, particularly in those over 75 or with chronic heart or lung conditions

Have you had the jab?
It seems only sensible, also keeping yourself to yourself and not spreading it to others who may be more vulnerable or immunocompromised.
I am constantly surprised by people (especially of our age) who insist on “working through”, or keeping social engagements, visiting family or friends when they should actually be self- isolating.

JPB123 Sun 08-Mar-26 18:58:02

Yes I’ve had the RSV injection.

TiggyW Sun 08-Mar-26 20:54:52

I wish I’d had the vaccine!
You have to be at least 75 to be eligible for a free RSV vaccination. I don’t qualify, but at least I’ve had the shingles vaccine. 🙄
I think I caught RSV over Christmas from our grandson, who was hospitalised for 4 days on oxygen at the age of 10 months. 😕 It was either that or Covid, but I tested negative for the latter. I’ve never felt so ill for years!
The worst side effect is that I lost my senses of smell and taste in December, and they still haven’t returned.
Strangely enough, I still enjoy eating chocolate! I think it must be either the sugar or just the texture of it! Eating food now is just boring, although I haven’t lost my appetite.

I can understand how people can accidentally make themselves ill by taking too much over the counter medication because for the past week I’ve been taking no end of things to stop myself coughing. Coughing is so exhausting.

TanaMa Sun 08-Mar-26 22:33:46

This bug seems to be doing the rounds - I had it earlier - had all my injections but still felt completely washed out, snotty nose, nasty cough which has left me still feeling quite breathless. Although I am 90 I am usually very fit and can brush off most seasonal coughs and colds, but this was horrible - it actually made me take to my bed on one afternoon.

rafichagran Sun 08-Mar-26 22:52:07

I have this virus too. I am exhausted. Cough, blocked up, headache, and nausea.
It's horrible.

Karen22 Sun 08-Mar-26 23:13:21

Had it bad for a week , got over it then about 10 days later I got it again and felt v ill ! Weird.
For a persistent cough and stuffiness I highly recommend Jakemans Throat and Chest lozenges (black ones) , they're so good .
Hope you feel better soon 💐

MayBee70 Sun 08-Mar-26 23:18:29

I remember taking those before but can’t remember where I bought them from. When I was still working I had an infection like this that dragged on for weeks.
