Welcome. This thread is in support of those who wish to share their mental health problems as they affect their daily lives, share aspects of our lives supportively and give and take support. And is a continuation of Black Dog 30
.
It’s been going for some time, so this is a jump in at the deep end.
All are welcome- don’t be put off by some of us being here long term - people come and go, or regularly post. So sometimes it might seem just like everyday chats, but there is a basis of Mental Health difficulties in self or loved ones tha runs through it.

Wyllow3 A bidet, eh...posh grin. Yes, Red Dwarf. We also loved League of Gentlemen and Trigger Happy TV.

SweetpeaSue At least you got out for a bit of fresh air. The "storm" seems to have gone now. B&M is the only shop I actually like going round.

nadateturbe The PEARS idea is handy to know about. In Nottingham, we've got an eye casualty department at our large hospital. I've been there before. A haircut always feels fresh. It'll soon grow.

Doodle My friend is very outspoken and has frequently upset her AC. Now, they don't have anything to do with her (no birthday/Xmas/Mother's Day cards or calls), and she wonders why they're like that. Ooh, I love a good Indian meal. What did you have? Hope you're feeling ok now.

Aqua aerobics, brunch and getting my nails done, today. Hope ALL BDers manage to have a decent day.

Wyllow3 Mon 26-Oct-26 08:26:34

Always nice to come in early and find BD's here. wave, both.

Yes HVDY a bidet is dead posh. My excuse for this poshness grin is that it was here when I came with my now Ex in 2015 - and now - well its fab - not just for the obvious reasons always being really clean - but great to wash ones feet in.

Oh dear re your friend. Pluses and minuses being so forthright.
Sounds a nice day ahead.

Sweetpeasue, if you are trying to make phone calls, all the best as ever.

Today is the challenging visiting F, for she is very, very frail physically and mentally at 65, I love her very dearly, she has a special place in my life:

but have to be extremely careful how I handle the visit. obviously its at a time when our little Quaker group is in disarray because of D! F was reported to be asking for an exorcism and tbh I'm wondering if D got to her on a visit talking about the devil.

I'm ringing presently to check out if she wants me to come and when.

I've got a nice Quaker Zoom first.

ooo, I was looking up Christmas cards, as it will be upon us whether its a plus or minus for you this year.

I always buy from MIND, as was really stuck by the choice and sensitivity of a lot of their Stuff, so passing it on

Huge choice cards etc

Wyllow3 Washing feet in bidet grin. That's a great idea, but not posh. Your friend F is only 65? The Christmas cards look good. I buy ours from Hillside Animal Sanctuary in Norfolk - we've been there, and it's a great place. The animals and waterfowl are all so well looked after.

Went to Aqua, only to be told it's cancelled because the poolside screen isn't working (apparently it was broken last Friday, too). Had breakfast (I had a veggie one, as I don't eat sausages, bacon, or eggs). I suppose I ought to do some ironing.....how boring.

nadateturbe Mon 26-Oct-26 16:27:26

HVDY we have a very good emergency eye clinic indoor hospital. I didn't know until specsavers-who are in Pears scheme sent me.
Yes, hair grows, that's why I don't worry too much.

nadateturbe Mon 26-Oct-26 16:29:49

Hope you got through your boring ironing. I'm lucky. my husband loves ironing, while listening to something.

nadateturbe Mon 26-Oct-26 16:38:38

I think it's good to support a charity with Christmas cards Wyllow3. I buy from M.E. association. I hope if your friend wants a visit that it goes ok. Hope it doesn't tire you too much. Strange asking for an exorcism. I haven't come across that. Great having a bidet. We haven't room for one. First time I saw one was in Majorca many years ago and we all gathered around it wondering what it was for.

Sweetpeasue Mon 26-Oct-26 19:18:32

HVDY Shame about the pool screen not working - you must have felt disappointed when you got there. B&M is great isnt it - DH quite likes a look around the miscellaneous stuff in middle aisles in our village Aldi too. Did you do the ironing? Ive got wash basket full for tomorrow's dry day. Fun never stops!
Wyllow Hope you managed to get your eye sorted today if it was needed.
Oh dear - F sounds very vulnerable right now and a shame D had to talk about the devil on her visit. I hope your visit went OK. Had to smile about you washing your feet in the bidet- why not?
No calls to be made today. Secretary getting back to us after shes seen Consultant - she now has letters and doppler results.
Nadateturbe Hope youve been OK today and are getting more used to your hair cut.

Made some cheese scones today , bit of hoovering and sewing . Just quiet.
Funny , Ill have no reason to go out on my own now reading group finished last week.
DH still pain in chest/ legs - cant bear v light duvet on chest. He's seemed happier today as hes started some little model of something with bits of wood and lolly sticks.
Not happy about Consultant's striking - more delayed appts and poorly people being made to wait - sigh.
Hope youve been OK * Doodle* and * Scaredycat*
Thinking of you too * EllieAnne*

Doodle Mon 26-Oct-26 19:42:25

HVDY I actually have no idea what we had to eat. There was a huge pot of rice and about 7 other bowls of bubbling concoctions. I had a dollop of each on my plate with the rice. It was all really nice. Thank you I’m feeling much better now. It wasn’t the food at all it was my flu and covid jab that made me feel ill.
Sorry about your friend. She probably doiesnt think it’s her fault her family don’t communicate.
Sorry aqua was closed. Hope they get the screen sorted soon.
nadateturbe I get my cards from the Hospice. I used to get them from Blood cancer Uk. I think it’s good to support different causes.
Sweetpeasue your Dh is very clever with his modelling. Hope it takes his mind off things for a while. Hope you hear from the secretary soon.
Wyllow hope your visit to your friend went ok and you enjoyed your zoom.
I’ve been to visit a seriously ill friend in hospital today. It was a hospital Dh was in but fortunately not a ward he’d been in. Friend so poorly I didn’t recognise him even with his name above the bed.
Really wet and cold again here.
Scaredycat I know I asked you recently but now I can’t remember your answer. Are your boys house cats or do they go out. Just thinking it might be a worry in this weather.

Doodle Mon 26-Oct-26 19:42:59

Ellie Anne did you go to the hospital today? Hope your sons are keeping in touch

Sweetpeasue Mon 26-Oct-26 20:10:03

Doodle I am sorry about your friend. He sounds really poorly for you not to have recognised him. I expect you were not looking forward to visit the same hospital and thank heavens it wasnt one of the same wards. Even so I hope it doesnt bring to the fore any sad memories. I do hope your poor friend will get better .

EllieAnne Mon 26-Oct-26 20:14:53

Yes doodle I did. He slept a lot and talked nonsense.
Son 1 and wife are there tonight and were asking for an update so I m waiting to hear back.

Wyllow3 Mon 26-Oct-26 20:14:53

Oh dear, HVDY, sorry for the cancellation, bit of a disappointment.

Now that ironing business had me smiling. I just don’t iron except for rare linen stuff, I smooth things out and they Just Have to do, but as I wear mostly knitted stretchy stuff it’s not an issue. A has the same approach.

Well top DH there iron wise, nadateturbe. Hats off. 🙂

I didnt need PEARSm its settling, but its good to tell folks about the scheme, its my local Specsavers for me so all canoe sorted at the same place. I am beginning to need reading glasses at last and the enlarging ones I have for sewing are not quite so useful any more…oh well got to 75 without reading glasses is a good run

Actually nadeteturbe I ws just thinking today re the cards, how I betted you would go via ME. Yes for real. Its a great way to support ones own supportive charity.

I did tell A about them, we met at the gym, and he grimaced as he has masses and masses of rellies.. .not so here, maybe 20 cards max these days. I just send to rellies I get on with well and friends I dont se but am very fond of.

Mmmm now I adore cheese scones, Sweetpeasue - get the BD trebuchet out please. …..maybe think of new groups when its springtime unless some opportunity pops up. Nowt hat is good DH news, picking up a hobby 🙂.

Ah, it was the jabs, Doodle, I’m glad you have picked up today. Aw, poor friend - and yes that goodness another ward. Still, tough for you, all the same.

I’, also thinking of EllieAnne today, long time no news.

My goodness my friend is in a mess MH wise she is p’ing off the nursing staff, but thank goodness MH are working well for her, it will take time and new meds before she stops being disturbed and tbh quite manipulative but par fort he course with her condition- but a few of us are on the case and exchange notes It's hard work so I try to keep it light whilst things happen. It’s a lovely nursing home she is on after the intense MH ward - truly, if I had to end up somewhere or respite I'd choose that. Lovely caring staff. Happy feeling. Yes, ££££, but friend is funded on a nursing basis and will be for some time, she has become mostly immobile it was all so bad.

I also went to the gym.

ahem.....I suspect you will believe the following - 1.25 hours exercise, the rest essential nattering, and A there which was nice. I thought him one weights machine in partiuclar that will help then messed up by minor intervention (not in front of A, but he noticed) with a bloke who was being very hogging resources and ignoring others needs.

A was borderline cross I had offended male sensibilities and he was coping but it didnt look that way.

A said he had a decent conversation after with the man in the changing rooms, but I had actually told man (alpha ale, struts around 🤣)….he actually had a condition and that had ameliorated said man’s attitude.

I’d best not have meddled just said I would have liked him to stick up for me even if misguided but then we are in Mars and Venus territory....🤷‍♂️

Oh well. It matters to me a great deal that caring is valued…but today a great leaning experience don’t meddle/help if not necessary,

spend time only stuff too (ie getting on with cataloguing my art of years which takes real energy up but would be so good for me.

Wyllow3 Mon 26-Oct-26 20:16:54

Oh...good news..my Safeguarding Quaker people are going to Zoom me as regards me being able to go back to my own Meeting for Worship, but not at the cost of L who is trying to keep the whole shebang on the road. (F is in the same meeting)

HowVeryDareYou2 Mon 26-Oct-26 20:54:23

Wyllow3 What a very odd thing F said about an exorcism.

nadeteturbe It's great that your husband likes ironing. I wish mine did. I was going to do mine, but remembered that I'm lazy and can't be bothered grin. Luckily, we've got lots of clothes (I had 2 new tops yesterday).

SweetpeaSue Cheese scones - delicious. Glad your husband is enjoying making something. I hope the doctor's strikes won't affect any appointments or anything for your DH.

Doodle Whatever you ate, you enjoyed it, that's the main thing. Glad you're feeling ok today. How sad that your friend is looking so unwell that you didn't recognise him.

EllieAnne I'm pleased your son and his wife are helping with visits to your husband.

Wyllow3 Glad your eye is ok now. You're lucky to not have needed reading glasses. You've had a busy day, by the sound of it.

My brother texted me at 4.45 this morning! He had the trots and didn't know what to do! He exaggerates. I advised him on what to eat/not eat. By 2pm, he was perfectly ok. Then he rang me at 6pm (he only ever rings when he's got a problem, never asks if I'm ok), again imagining he's got Norovirus (he hasn't). I told him to ring the GP tomorrow, but to take Dioralyte - he didn't want to do either. Ah well.....

LG and Son1's 2 girls will be here all day tomorrow. That will be nice. Hope everyone has a restful night x

nadateturbe Mon 26-Oct-26 22:19:31

Just as well you remembered HVDY and saved yourself all that work 😃.
And you're a very patient sister!
Goodnight everyone, have read posts, thinking of you all. Hopefully chat more tomorrow. x

Wyllow3 Mon 26-Oct-26 23:32:04

I just missed you in posting, EllieAnne. I'm so glad that your son stepped up and went. Please do post about how he is, how your family is x

You are very patient with him, HVDY. Well, women are sometimes supposed to "Know the Answers" - but never asking how you are back, well, thats very sad and hard for you.

HVDY, whatever F said last week, all forgotten today:
...she's pretty out of it..or maybe she talks to different people who visit differently? I seem to be a sister to share with and do practical things for her and have a bit of a laugh at the moment?

Watched a wonderful life affirming film on Netflix, called "Je m'appelle Agneta" (its in English language wise)
