Welcome. This thread is in support of those who wish to share their mental health problems as they affect their daily lives, share aspects of our lives supportively and give and take support. And is a continuation of Black Dog 30
.
It’s been going for some time, so this is a jump in at the deep end.
All are welcome- don’t be put off by some of us being here long term - people come and go, or regularly post. So sometimes it might seem just like everyday chats, but there is a basis of Mental Health difficulties in self or loved ones tha runs through it.

Doodle Sat 24-Oct-26 17:16:20

Sorry Scaredycat the bit about the pain au raisin was for you x

HowVeryDareYou2 Sat 24-Oct-26 17:38:40

SweetpeaSue It'll be better for your son to not have to do all that driving. Nice that you'll see Fluffball on Tuesday. Will that be every week?

Wyllow3 Glad you got out to the gym. Do you see regulars there? Are you staying for dinner at A's? My husband and son enjoyed their curries and a pint each. Son does the cleaning at their house on Saturdays, plus cooks the dinner (while his GF is at work), so he only called in to see me briefly.

ScaredyCat My friend and I worked as carers together at 3 different places. We've been texting a lot today - she's estranged from her son and his wife, and asks for my advice. I hope your friend's blood test results will be ok. Pain au raisin are lovely, but I prefer the chocolate ones. Have you been out today?

Doolde No, the snake didn't eat the hamster - they had them at different times. Hope you have a nice evening.

It's been raining all day long here. I don't mind because I haven't had to go anywhere. I ordered 2 new tops and a large rug. Hope ALL BDers have a cosy evening x

Sweetpeasue Sat 24-Oct-26 18:08:25

Scaredycat Using Wyllow's trebuchet to send that M&S pie!
Yes, Im quite relieved about son 2 not having the terribly long drives ,especially thought the winters.
Do hope your friend's blood results are good. She must get quite anxious about them.
Doodle Im hoping son will pop round more. I know it might be bit difficult to get used to the shift work he'll be doing( mix of night n day shifts)
Ooh you're off out tonight. Hope wind isnt too bad where you are.

Sweetpeasue Sat 24-Oct-26 18:18:04

Wyllow Hope youll not have to wait too long in the porch.
So many power pack thingys- I can see why youd pick a really good one- oh decisions ,decisions.
HVDY Must be so difficult for your friend to be estranged from her son. You must find lots to talk about knowing each other so long.
I think days son wants me to look after F for a while might change as his shifts alter. Raining all day here too and blowing a hoolie.
Nadateturbe Hope you managed to get to the hairdressers the other day and you like your cut. When I used to go I 'd always wash it all out when I got home.
Elless and * Peep* Hope youre both coping.
EllieAnne If you did travel to the hospital Im hoping the drive was OK. Thinking of you.

Wyllow3 Sat 24-Oct-26 21:24:43

I hope you are hunkering down in this weather Scardeycat cuddling cats. It’s a lovely post for all as usual. I hope your friends bloods turn out to be the best they can.

I hope your evening goes well, Doodle. Watch out for wind and trees and everything flying around. Like at Sweetpeasue’s it is really blowing a storm up.

Now it’s hard for you to give advice on that, HVDY. The estrangement forum might have suggestions? No wonder you are close to your friend after working together. What is your large rug like? And the tops.

Everybody needs a trebuchet. Yes I did eat here, am staying over, so I shall trebuchet samples, rather nice crab and lobster pasta’s, to anyone wanting to try, as all was from Waitrose - so yummy.

Yes HVDY I have been a member at this gym for 25 years, I joined just after it opened in 2001. It’s a home from home and I know lots of people and it’s very friendly. Of course me and A getting together Will Have Been Noticed and noted 🙄on the gossip circuit of those in the know.
Since I met Ex2 at the gym too - and..it didn’t end so well and some people were involved keeping him away from me for a time…..yes it takes great patience at times but OTOH good to go at a slower pace.

Sweetpeasue yes with your son, I hope that you will get to see him more often too.

I hope you are OK, EllieAnne - it is not driving weather! X

HowVeryDareYou2 Sat 24-Oct-26 22:11:02

SweetPeaSue Yes, we talk about a lot of things. I was actually her boss for a while, when we both worked at Nottinghamshire Hospice - I managed a group of 10 specialised carers who did palliative care (I did that too, a few evenings a week after my office job). I don't know about you, but I like being indoors and seeing the wind and rain outside. Jaff's been out twice, for about 5 minutes each time. He got wet, so I had to dry him with his towel grin.

Wyllow3 My friend doesn't use Gransnet and wouldn't seek advice from strangers. Obviously, I know her adult children. One died at the age of 27, from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome. Another stopped all contact a few years ago, after arguments. The remaining one moved to a different city about 5 years ago and has a young child - my friend has seen that GC 3 times and only has 3 photos. My friend had/has been very critical of what her AC do, how they live, and the state of their homes. You must have made quite a few friends at your gym, after all those years. My new rug is 5ft x 7ft, thick and a plain colour - Chestnut. The tops are both long-sleeved and green, with different patterns.

Off to bed now, so "see" everyone tomorrow x

EllieAnne Sat 24-Oct-26 23:02:43

Quite distressed tonight. Had a phone call from Dh who usually is not good with the phone.he informed me that my 13 year old gd was upstairs in the hospital in a bedroom with a 33 year old man . He’d tried to call her mum (her phone was on silent) so he phoned me. I was disturbed so phoned son and of course she was in bed asleep.but it really upset me .
The wind is bad and my bins are getting blown over. I’m not usually nervous but tonight I m very jumpy.

Wyllow3 Sun 25-Oct-26 05:11:31

I wish I'd come in earlier EllieAnne to offer you a big hug.

Well you did absolutely the right thing ringing your son both the check it out but also to keep them in the loop.

As people have said, its very likely the medication, and goodness knows what unspoken fears he has deep inside, but if he is not on such strong opiates and still the same do ask for a psychological exam.

Yes, the clattering last night was scary.

Meanwhile I got up an hour ago ie 4am and crept in the kitchen (I'm at A's, and he is very noise sensitive)

I woke early with one eye hurting bad, a real lot lying down and red round both rims, and got really scared, imagining the worst, and my mobile is at home..imagining, "A and E", ... so applied dry eye thingy and got up as I was fretting, to the warmer kitchen, to see if it settles. It's a bit better but massively short on sleep. Cross fingers.

nadateturbe Sun 25-Oct-26 05:37:05

I hope it has eased but perhaps go to an optician who is registered with the PEARS scheme Wyllow3, and get it checked.
EllieAnne that must have been very disturbing for you. Hugs.

Wyllow3 Sun 25-Oct-26 07:17:51

Its so nice when someone comes in with comfort early, nadateturbe.

I am in the Pears scheme so can ring tomorrow to the nearby place I'm registered with.

My eye is hurting, but not as I feared initially in the middle of the night - ie the damage seems like a minor bruise - but everything is worse at 2.30 am, and I am staying with A, who couldn't possibly have driven me. Hew also hasn't warmed the room up for me - it's like accepting the limitations of hw much I can call on him for support when meeting needs too.

I was awake between 2.30 and 5am, but got another hours sleep. Dropped off watching a Jeeves and Wooster on my lap top on U tube. (It's such a "light" programme, and suits my tastes.

Do keep us posted EllieAnne this weather is making all more difficult. Can your sons visit their Dad more easily than you, driving and where they live wise? Of course I realise they have families and work.

Sweetpeasue Sun 25-Oct-26 08:48:12

That sounds really awful * Wyllow* I wonder what has caused it. You must have been really cold too - what a night. Do keep us posted on what happens there .
Oh EllieAnne thats so disturbing. Do keep the family ' in the loop' as Wyllow put it. You need all the support you can get right now. Id like to send a big hug also. Lots of love x

HowVeryDareYou2 Sun 25-Oct-26 11:49:35

EllieAnne Your poor husband is very confused, isn't he? Has anyone spoken with a doctor about it? That must have worried you. It's blowing a lot here, and our bin and bird table both blew over.

Wyllow3 You didn't get much sleep at all. Hope you can catch up on it later. How's your eye now?

The wind is very strong here - we're on the top of a steep street. DH has gone shopping, but Jaffa and I are having a cosy day. Hope everyone is ok x

Wyllow3 Sun 25-Oct-26 13:46:53

The eye has settled so will just pop for a check up tomorrow as I have a PEARS optician up the road.

The cold - well its making sure in advance the radiators are on all night if needed and leaving a HWB and one of my gigantic fleeces and trousers at my now occasional other residence which has 2 sets of heating controls.

My original "hospital bag" with a set of alternative everything is useful but was designed for a warm space.

The sun came out on my way back and I enjoyed going ground a lively Sainsbugs but not too busy as half the population were running an hour late.

Age shows there - 20 somethings with shorts on

Back to bed here with more Jeeves and Wooster presently.

Very windy here in the S Yorks region, I believe it's been better down south, but EllieAnne will be being hammered. And tough chez Sweetpeasue?

Scaredycat Sun 25-Oct-26 16:11:36

Hi all
Very short post😩 Yesterday morning we had our Covid and flu jabs for me and flu for DH. Oh boy as the day went on I started to feel a bit rough and during the night got up to go to the loo and slipped on the bathroom floor! Hurt my foot a bit but felt awful. This morning I still felt really poorly and have felt so extremely tired. DD came round to see how I was and DH even didn’t go to golf. Anyway I am a bit better now but still done in.
See you all tomorrow- I hope!! Take care allxx

nadateturbe Sun 25-Oct-26 16:59:14

Oh you poor thing Scaredycat. Take it easy. My husband usually feels rough for 2 days, then it passes. So hopefully you'll feel a lot better tomorrow.
I only get the flu jab. I couldn't cope with effects of covid jab.

Wyllow3 Sun 25-Oct-26 17:32:08

Aw dear Scaredycat. I reckon as well as the jab you've been under a lot of stresses too over the past 6 weeks.
Bed! Cats! Pampering! DH does the lot...

Warm wave, nadateturbe.

nadateturbe Sun 25-Oct-26 17:45:07

Doodle I just want to repeat what everyone else said. "If onlys" are something human beings do, but your care and great love for your DH were very evident when he was ill. And I'm sure he felt it. You did everything you could.

nadateturbe Sun 25-Oct-26 17:50:59

To those who asked, my haircut wasn't great and too short, but it'll grow. I think she was rushing because I kept drinking water and she thought I might faint. Poor girl lol. But it was definitely too long. My husband drove me and at least its done. I don't worry too much about things these days that aren't important.

HowVeryDareYou2 Sun 25-Oct-26 17:52:10

Wyllow3 You do feel the cold. One of our neighbours (late 30s) wears shorts and* flip-flops* grin. Oh, I used to like Jeeves and Wooster. I might look at some Blackadder programmes - weren't they great?

ScaredyCat You poor thing. Rest, and drink plenty.
nadateturbe How are you?

Hope everyone else has been ok. DH did some shopping, and besides the stuff on the list, he bought 24 toilet rolls as they were on offer - we've now got 63!

Wyllow3 Sun 25-Oct-26 18:04:53

That does make me laugh, HVDY...erm....except it reminds me I forgot to buy them today 😳...but TMI ....I have a bidet....oh yes, I loved Blackadder....apart from the stunning end scene with poppies in the WW2 one, I think I liked the Elizabethan best. We also all watched Black Dwarf.

I'm glad you had the cut, nadateturbe despite all. It will be good soon I hope.

(What I did once was photo mine when it was just right, a selfie, then I had a picture to show her)

Sweetpeasue Sun 25-Oct-26 19:08:58

Oh * Scaredycat* thats awful ,I hope you feel better tomorrow and your foot will be OK. Not had my jabs yet as it knocked me for 6 last year. You take care and rest.
Nadateturbe I was wondering how the hair cut went. Awww ,I hope it grows fast. At least its done now for a while.
HVDY Wind been strong here too. Ive got quite a few T-Rolls myself but not caught up with you yet! 😂
Wyllow You are so organised with your ready bags. I think I need to do one for DH actually though ( shhhh). Hope your eye is getting better - not sure what PEARS is.
Doodle Hope your day has been OK. Wonder if the winds are better where you are.
EllieAnne Thinking of you.x

Actually went out for a Costa and to B&M . Otherwise cosy, lazy day.
Wishing all a peaceful night and much love.x

nadateturbe Sun 25-Oct-26 19:28:59

Sweetpeasue
The PEARS (Primary Eyecare Assessment and Referral Service / Primary Eye Care Acute Referral Scheme) is a free, NHS-funded community service that allows patients to self-refer to a local accredited optician for the assessment and treatment of sudden-onset or acute eye problems.

If you Google you will get the details. It's useful.

Doodle Sun 25-Oct-26 19:36:51

Sweetpeasue hallucinations or imagining things can be quite common on patients who are seriously ill or on high meds. My friends Dh thought he was going to be murdered. Good your Dh was able to phone you with his worries. I would just say something to calm him down and mention it to the doctor next time you’re at the hospital. It is quite common but it would have been very real to your Dh. Try to reassure him or say something like I’ll sort it all out when I come in.
So sorry you have all these worries.
Scaredycat sorry you had a fall and hurt your foot, I had my jabs yesterday and by the time I got back from my evening out I felt quite ill. I took myself straight to bed with painkillers but woke a lot during the night feeling very hot. I’m mush. Better today, hope you feel better soon too.
HVDY so sorry about your friend. Hard to give advice but probably support and listening will help, the toilet rolls made me laugh. DH used to do that too.
Sweetpeasue had a nice time last night, went to an Indian restaurant and we had some lovely dancers. Very good evening. Fortunately I was fine till about 10 minutes before I got home so wasn’t I’ll there. Lovely company with some friends and we had a good time
Unbelievably windy here. My rocking chair is making its way across my balcony in its own. If I gets more windy I will tie it to the railings like I did last year, glad you had a cosy and restful day.
Wyllow I hate being cold. Poor you and worrying about you eye too. Hope you feel better now. Make sure you check the heating when you go to A . It’s really cold and windy out.

Wyllow3 Sun 25-Oct-26 20:41:35

It's been quite dramatic. The road around the corner from A's a couple of hours after I'd driven has a huge huge beech tree across the road and crushed a parked car.

Oh, do tie the chair to the balcony, Doodle, better safe than sorry, I don't know which parts of England the next wave will hit. Now what is it about men and toilet rolls...

It sounded mostly a great evening last night..what happened 10 mins before leaving? a tum bug or sheer tiredness?

I'm glad to hear of cosy days, those just staying in.

btw, yes, having a " to go"bag is actually very reassuring

and think of how much less to do when on holiday - just pick out the bits for the holiday bag. (I'm going to sort it our so there are categories in see through Zip plastic large bags)

Sweetpeasue Sun 25-Oct-26 22:24:14

Nadateturbe Thanks for that - Id never heard of it. Sounds a great thing to know about.
Doodle Glad you had chance to enjoy your Indian evening last night before you took ill. Oh yes ,hope youve secured the rocking chair. What a lovely chair to have to look out onto the river. Hope youre feeling better.
