I have had six different plumbers traipsing over my kitchen floor in the past few days, in the interests of having a new boiler installatilon quoted for. The floor must be filthy. My OCD is beginning to surface.

I have got Dettol Antibacterial Spray and Wipe Floor Cleaner which says it leaves a shine. It doesn't!

The flooring is Rhinofloor vynil (or vinyl - you choose)

Well, could you ask your cleaning ladies? smile

Hot water, microfibre mop, mop bucket, person on end of mop applying elbow grease.

Plenty of elbow grease and bleach ( I love bleach, I constantly have the smell of bleach follow me around) and on the wooden floors I use Cif Camomile wood floor cleaner which does not leave a residue, it also can be used on vinyl and ceramic. A plus side is it smells gorgeous wink

I use hot water, mop and bucket no cleaner, I also wet wipe my dust away. Works for me in fact I was surprised when I first tried it the floor came up fine.

I use a microfibre mop and hot water. I use damp and then dry microfibre cloths to do all my cleaning - they are fantastic. Hardly ever use chemicals and have saved a fortune. Occasionally get the polish out for real wood furniture and leather cleaner conditioner on the sofas. When I want to do a "deep clean" I use a steam cleaner, again no chemicals.

Yes. I like microfibre cloths. I find if I just use hot water it leaves a dull looking surface. I think it's down to the hard water in this area. I guess a little bit of washing up liquid would probably do the job just as well. I'm inclined to get stressed out about germs. hmm (phobia really! shock)

Harrigran that Amtico floor cleaner sounds good. Just looked at John Lewis online reviews for it. Antibacterial too - that'll do me! Will try that. smile

You'd have a complete breakdown in my house. Somehow I just can't bring myself to worry about germs on floors. Most bacteria are good anyway.

Carol Sat 10-Mar-12 07:37:47

I'm the same bagitha. I have a dog running around, and I sweep the slate kitchen floor, or vac up the dog hairs on the sitting room carpet and that is enough. Will mop round the kitchen when I feel like it, but life's too short to be worrying about germs on the floor. I'm more concerned not to have the wrong germs on my hands travelling to my mouth, so I wash me, rather than the floor grin

Butternut Sat 10-Mar-12 07:53:33

Oh! Do you have to wash floors?? grin

Tosh Sat 10-Mar-12 09:09:28

I always use a steam cleaner on my laminate and vinyl floors ..I kept knocking the mop bucket over !!!!
I had an H2O but now have a Shark ..love it !!!

wotsamashedupjingl Sat 10-Mar-12 09:31:52

I know that Bagitha !!!!!

Butternut - I was waiting for that one. wink grin

Can you use that on carpets Tosh?

wotsamashedupjingl Sat 10-Mar-12 09:32:45

I meant about the bacteria Bags - not about the state of your house! shock

susiecb Sat 10-Mar-12 09:48:16

I'm a Flash girl!

Annobel Sat 10-Mar-12 09:52:41

Boasting again, susie?

bagitha Sat 10-Mar-12 10:08:41

Yes, I know, jings. Don't worry, I don't mind what you think of the state of my house. Just pointing out that most bacteria are friendly and actually useful so you don't need to worry about them so much, especially on floors. Hands, as someone said, are another matter. smile

I have clean hands. grin

Annobel Sat 10-Mar-12 10:34:04

Thank goodness for common sense about bacteria, bags. Advertisers have, for years, succeeded in making us ('the housewife', whoever she maybe!) paranoid about bacteria. 'Kills 99% of all known germs' - huh! Those are probably the benign ones.

wotsamashedupjingl Sat 10-Mar-12 10:50:23

Bagitha stop it! I'm quite sure your house is fine. Probably in a better state than mine!

Actually, what you say about bacteria is helpful. I do know it - well my 'commonsense' knows it. I just need to keep remembering it. I only get a bit of angst when a little bit of stress comes into my life! hmm

jeni Sat 10-Mar-12 11:31:47

Lot of nonsence said about bacteria!
Use some common sense! So long as it looks clean, fine! It probably is! You are not a hospital to be worried about mrsa and pseudomonas and staph aureus etc!
I presume you aren't performing surgical operations in your house? Or have wardful of elderly incontinent bed bound ladies? If you have have you been inspected by the appropiate authorities?

wotsamashedupjingl Sat 10-Mar-12 12:06:37

jeni - yes Doc! (sits up straight and tries to look sensible) grin

wotsamashedupjingl Sat 10-Mar-12 12:08:37

I didn't mean "yes, I'm performing surgical operations".....!! Just "yes".

supernana Sat 10-Mar-12 12:38:51

Like my Nana and Mother, I use plenty of hot water and lots of energy [but only when I feel like it]...if I'm having a fun-time on GN, then the rest can hang on until I'm in the mood. Have spent far too many hours of my life worrying about germs...only one of which, nearly killed me. Nicked my thumb on a rusty gate latch. One week later, admitted to hospital with grade A strep septicaemia.
Allergic to penicillin. Spent a week on a drip of a cocktail of drugs. Almost lost my arm...and my life. Scary!
