Any favourite gadgets/kitchen implements you wouldn't want to be without?

Good knives

A good set of knives is essential and my pressure cooker gets a lot of use in the winter. I don't go for gadgets but we have just bought a microwave that is designed to fit in a corner. Saves quite a bit of space.

My 'wee sharp knife' is probably the one thing I'd be really lost without. I'm now trying to recall the contents of my kitchen drawers

I have a really cheap mandolin that came from the Lidl years ago; I use it all the time.

My pressure cooker. AT this time of year I seem to make gallons of soup. Easy to make and so healthy and warming.

Heavy duty potato ricer-makes perfect fluffy mash. It is the modern equivalent of the vintage one used by Mary Berry in the documentary about her shown the other day.
On a similar thread in the past, someone said they loved their onion comb. I bought one and would now hate to be without it.
A recent aquisition is a silicone spoon. It is heat resistant and leaves a clean pan or bowl.

I've got a smashing KitchenAid hand peeler, that came free with my mixer. It's one of those that you can really race along with. Great for doing ribbons of courgettes and carrots, and makes short work of root vegetables.

sunflower I got mine free, but they are quite dear. It's very good on things like butternut squash and swedes, which have such tough skins.

My special gadget is a teabag squeezer thingy, (sorry my minds gone blank, another senior moment) can't think of it's correct name, but when you make a cup of tea and then have to get the tea bag out without burning your fingers you just use this grabber squeezer thing and I find its fantastic, got it from `Lakeland' it was only a couple of £s. but I wouldn't do without it.

I know what you mean. Mines got mislaid. Must find another, a bit like tweezers with very wide grips?

Has to be knives! But I have also got a can and bottle opener that my grandfather bought 60 years ago - it's just two handles with curved ends hinged together and ridged on the inside. If a can can't be opened with this it can't be opened.

My knives and my dishwasher, closely followed by the microwave are very important. And I have small knife sharpener that sticks (by suction) on to the work top and it is brilliant! From Amazon.

Not as daft as it sounds Ariadne! It avoids smelly hands, and after cutting in one direction through the teeth it holds the slices for chopping finely in the other direction.

Like most of us, I have cupboards full of seldom-if-ever-used gadgetry - mandoline, plastic Mouli and the like.

Jar key (Lakeland) - never fails to break the vacuum in jar tops. Stick blender for making smooth soups. Wouldn't be without one.
