Yuk just found one on the table, right near the computer!!! trouble is, as they are only one at a time, I don't know where they are coming from. Will just put some bait down anyway. getting paranoid now.

We used bait stations from Wilkinsons, on a red and black card, they worked a treat.

Nelliemoser Fri 05-Apr-13 14:29:09

We tried those round bait things but the ants around here can't read the directions.

Yes thanks Galen, I've used them before, good idea. It's just the occasional ant at the moment, probably a scout ant.

I read that they eat pet food, so it isn't necessarily me not hoovering enough!

Found it NIPON BAIT STATION

Galen Fri 05-Apr-13 13:24:37

I find those little round black things that look like small upside down saucers that Nippon make are good for getting rid of ants. I put one in their track and they take the stuff in it back to their nest.

I actually got the steam cleaner out to give it another try, but it's rather useless. Another of those big waste of space items I wish we'd never got. They look so good on the demos!

I wanted to get one from QVC as you can return them having tried them if no good, but OH got it from Amazon as cheaper.

Feel quite virtuous now. Downstairs loo next!

Sorry this has strayed off "ants" a bit!

Yes, we have one who only comes every 2 months so is not too expensive but we don't get round to doing the insides as often as we should.

Now you have got me thinking, tall people coming next week, should I dust above my eye height?

sunflowersuffolk Fri 05-Apr-13 12:29:06

It's my husbands brother + sister and partners. Tbh they probably wouldn't notice, certainly wouldn't say anything.

It's been annoying me for a while, (sun showing up dirty marks) so I finally went out and did 2 windows. Not as cold as it was yesterday.

I must try and get find a window cleaner.

Movedalot Fri 05-Apr-13 12:10:19

sunflower If your visitors care about whether the windows are clean put them off! We never have 'visitors' now, just 'friends' and they come to see us not the windows. Be blowed if I'd go outside for something like window cleaning, self preservation would come first!

Nelliemoser Fri 05-Apr-13 11:47:37

I have had them presumbly getting in through the walls and nesting at the side of a kitchen unit in the utility room.
When I flooded the sink in the utility room the other week loads of soil washed out by the side of the cupboard. There are still ants about despite me ant powdering the gap between the patio and the house wall.

anno You northern ants are tougher than mine. grin

annodomini Fri 05-Apr-13 10:45:57

My ants manage to stay in the garden, but this species packs a hefty bite. They usually manage to get up the leg of my trousers or up my sleeve. My poor GD was very offended when one 'got' her.

sunflowersuffolk Fri 05-Apr-13 10:44:36

Your dog isn't stupid either Moved. I put my cats out, and very shortly after they appear on the windowsill, staring in at me pathetically until I give in and let them in.

I feel I have to clean the windows as they're filthy, and we have visitors Sunday. But it's so cold.

Movedalot Fri 05-Apr-13 10:37:06

I think you probably have very sensible ants!

I opened the french window this morning to let the dog out and then closed it behind her. She turned round and gave me a filthy look for not going with her, did what she had to do and came straight back to be let in. Normally she will stay out for ages. It might be sunny but still far too cold. No gardening again today.

sunflowersuffolk Fri 05-Apr-13 10:15:15

This was the best I could find!

There is a young lady from France
Who's given to not wearing pants.
This gross impropriety
Is abhored by society,
But at least she's not bothered by ants.

Elegran Fri 05-Apr-13 09:57:03

There must be a reply that refers to ants in the pants, but I can't think of it off the top of my head.

sunflowersuffolk Fri 05-Apr-13 09:46:27

lol ..... well i'm afraid they came to a sticky end.shock

Elegran Fri 05-Apr-13 09:43:25

Maybe they know it is spring, and think your house is a singles bar?

sunflowersuffolk Fri 05-Apr-13 08:59:08

I've found several single ants wandering around in the house during the last couple of weeks. Just surprised as normally we only ever get them in summer for a week or two. Maybe they are fed up of this cold weather and are finding somewhere warm to nest?
