Please re-christen my playroom!!

This was prompted by Frank's thread on new carpets etc! smile

I'm so excited that we are replacing everything in our playroom - new. huge sofa (no room for chairs), carpet, curtains, tv, shelving and colour scheme.

As our youngest child is now 26 and has her own children [and playroom!!] we thought we ought to rename the room too!

It's rather a funny space, approx 15' x 15' and it is open plan with the landing on one side - the landing has a glass roof and walls (think conservatory connecting two bits of the house) and has one wall brick, one wall mostly windows and one wall 'sumptuous plum'. It is open to the apex with exposed roof beams. It holds DH's crosstrainer, tv, CDs, shelving, sofa and a foot stool. We also have padded window seats.

The room is light, quite warm and, as well as from the landing, is accessible from stairs by the kitchen door.

We intend to use it during the day and revert to the lounge in the evening. If the house was for sale I imagine it would be called a family room but that sounds daft for just DH and I!

Glamma suggested snug on another thread but it isn't!

I suspect it will still be the playroom however hard we try to call it something new but a new name might just 'click!

I haven't taken photos grin

kitty If only grin

kittylester Mon 13-May-13 19:28:03

Ella that would be brilliant if I could just keep the others out grin

What about calling it the 'Solar'?
It was a room often used by senior women in a household if they wished for a little solitude. A room of comfort and status.
Soiunds good to me smile

The 'new room'?

Reddevil3 Mon 13-May-13 11:00:14

I think 'sun room' sounds lovely.

NfkDumpling Sun 12-May-13 18:28:03

My parents had a small front sitting room which was always called the 'Other room'. It worked very well.

kittylester Sun 12-May-13 11:11:55

Thank you all sunshine

GM I call it 'that other room - whatever it's called now-a-days' but it's a bit long winded. grin

Jingl and I do say that I'll just take this thingy upstairs.

NFK I suppose that is the answer, really.

But, I suspect it will the remain the playroom.

We call the room with the bed in it the bedroom .If this room is for sitting and has comfy chairs why not the chair room? We have a work room ( large table for projects ) and a music room( with all the instruments).

NfkDumpling Fri 10-May-13 21:51:00

It sounds like a really lovely room, it deserves a lovely name but I think if you have a 'lounge' downstairs it could be upstairs sitting room and see what it morphs into. The room will let you know.

Sun room/sky room sounds nice. I too thought it sounded like a lovely airy space. A something room trips off the tongue easily.

nanaej Fri 10-May-13 21:34:52

Sun room / Sky room as it sounds like you can see both easily from the room? Or the inside out room ? Or maybe the The Chiller as in I am off to the chiller to'chill out' grin

j08 Fri 10-May-13 20:46:59

Yes. That'll be it. smile

Nonu Fri 10-May-13 20:43:47

If memory serves correct , are not we Libra"s ?

j08 Fri 10-May-13 20:02:50

Nonu you must be my twin! We used to call our spare bedroom (downstairs) the parlour! It's morphed into "the 'puter room" now though.

Nonu Fri 10-May-13 19:55:43

How does this grab you then , we call our upstairs sitting room the parlour.

grin

j08 Fri 10-May-13 19:35:00

I would just call it "upstairs". As in, "I'm off upstairs if you're going to watch that Quest rubbish again". Or something.

j08 Fri 10-May-13 19:33:44

Flip me!

Nonu Fri 10-May-13 19:12:53

I am not very keen on the word "snug for a room , bit down market .

We call our other room on the ground floor the drawing room ,

gracesmum Fri 10-May-13 18:56:45

Morning room (sounds grand) the den (sounds American )the snug (sounds like a pub) the front room/back room (depending on location). Hmm, I know the other room!!

glammanana Fri 10-May-13 18:51:01

kittylester it does sound fabulous and will put my thinking head on again over the week-end but I do think cutch and slobbery are good choices.

Ana Fri 10-May-13 17:14:11

You're right about Day Room, kitty - I hadn't thought of that! grin

kittylester Fri 10-May-13 17:00:26

Thanks for your replies smile

Ana I like Day Room but DS1 said it reminded him of hospital sad

Tanith I love'cutch' and Gillybob's 'slobbery' would be really, really apt.

'Den' sounds a bit like a male preserve to me Jane and I intend to make full use of the room.

We went to buy spotlights today so we can highlight the beams - really, really, exciting! smile

gillybob Fri 10-May-13 10:43:35

Meant to add the envy emoticon.

janerowena Fri 10-May-13 10:42:36

My son has a room that is attached to the end of the house and has one wall that is all windows and french windows. The previous owners used it as a garden room. We call it the Den. We had no idea what to call it at first, he was too big for a playroom and 'his room' was his bedroom.
