Yes, I have a rotary clothes line. It rotates if the wind is strong enough. But it has been in position for fortyfive years now and it is slightly on the wonk, which doesn't help its turnability.

I envy you all. Mine doesn't go round at all even in the wind. Perhaps it's the way we've put it in the grass.

DD is told she should wash her nurses uniform stuff at 60deg. I don't know if her machine has that, my old Zannussi has.

gorki Does it have a kind of scabbard thing to bury in the ground and put it down into? It should be loose enough in that to turn round.

Don't they turn round from the top. Mine's got a shove through thing for when you don't want it to turn round.

Mine seems to turn everywhere, particularly when I am standing close to it pegging things up.

There is a bit that you push up the "stem" (like the part of an umbrella that you push up to open it) and that has holes which engage with a button on the stem, keeping it open at various heights. I think it must all turn from the base, otherwise that button would keep the top from turning round the stem.

Mine has got a push through thing which you slot in after you have done the umbrella opening bit. And I think there is a way of doing it so that it stops the top bit turning. It is very old though.

Yes - on a windy day you can get socked!

It is a clever design, anyway. Beats the old four-posts-with-little-metal-arms at each corner of the grass and the clothes prop holding up the crossed ropes in the middle. At least you can lower the top and put a plastic sock over it to keep the ropes clean. But we used to have a set of those with a second lot of little arms halfway down the posts, so you could hang another row of short things on another rope. Good for nappies.

In a different house with only a straight clothes line I used to hang a second row of nappies from the lower edges of the first row, pegged to alternate ones so as to keep them out straight (by that I mean that pegging one nappy directly to the one above would make it droop, pegging it to the ones either side of the one above it wouldn't)

I think we have had cutlery drawers mentioned before in a thread, so that would be repetition. Feel free to start one on how we all arrange the cutlery around the place setting, though. I don't think we've had that.

Oh! just once in a while such a thread gives us something silly to smile at. It's hardly been deadly serious. I for one am certainly no domestic goddess. I am a right untidy beggar!

Over here washing machine heat temps are hot water -warm rinse,warm water -cool rinse or cold water- cold rinse. Washed clothes all my adult life...never knowing"exact" temp. I've made it alright so far!
