When you have a lot of socks to wash and dry....

Do you hang them up on the line/indoor airer in pairs, or just higgledy-piggledy, and then sort them out on the bed or table before you put them away in the drawers?

I do the second method, but I wonder if is the most efficient timewise.

Hung outside higglety pigglety by the toes. Higglety pigs again indoors on the pulley. When dry, I toss them on the bed, black, navy blue and brown, no blooming pattern to help match them up so I inform DH his clean socks are upstairs ready for him to flype. I hate flyping and unflyping socks

I can't be a***d to hang them out in pairs. They get sorted when they're dry.

I also "CBA" Agus and Nina. My DH is so anal he does hang them in pairs.

a link for the non-Scottish amongst us

On Agus's behalf. smile

I will tell DH he can flype his own flyping socks in future.

I can't be bothered to hang out small items, so tumble dry them. When I do so for DD I always sort the washed items into clothing type and owners, also pairing the socks, before hanging on line. It makes sorting easier when dry. When I used to put away washed and dried terry nappies they were always folded into their kite shape first.

shock

By the time baby number three came, they were just bundled into the drawer - no folding at all!

Thanks for the link J08 grin Should have thought about the translation bit. Anyhoo, when DH gets there, tell him to flype off some more!!

Even worse for me is unflyping the beggars for washing.

Just had a thought, if I didn't actually bother to unflype, would DH know the difference. Ha! Lightbulb moment.

I had never heard that word "flype" Thank you jo8 for the link to its meaning.
I pair socks up and hang them in the linen cupboard as it is warm there. Also drape underwear there to dry!!!!

j08 Wed 16-Oct-13 21:02:45

grin They wouldn't dry very well if they were still flyped up.

thatbags Wed 16-Oct-13 21:06:18

I make Minibags unflype her own. I just fling them back in her room if they are too flypey to handle/wash.

thatbags Wed 16-Oct-13 21:06:56

She's being a slow learner about sock de-flyping hmm

gracesmum Wed 16-Oct-13 21:12:13

Does anybody care?

j08 Wed 16-Oct-13 21:14:23

My DH is also a slow learner re de-flypeing.

thatbags Wed 16-Oct-13 21:14:49

I care about deflyping school tights! Big time! wink

I mean I care about NOT deflyping them.

Elegran Wed 16-Oct-13 21:16:12

Does anyone who doesn't care have to read it?

thatbags Wed 16-Oct-13 21:16:31

Nope.

grannyactivist Wed 16-Oct-13 21:25:18

I never have a lot of socks to wash or dry - I do my own personal washing and all household items, the others do their own washing. I hang socks up as they come out of the basket and pair them as I put them away.

vampirequeen Wed 16-Oct-13 22:12:56

What's deflyping?

Agus Wed 16-Oct-13 22:30:04

Apologies for using a Scottish word which I should have realised not everyone would know. Just used it through habit as this is the term we use here.

Flype is when you pair socks together, unflyping is when you separate the pair.

Gally Wed 16-Oct-13 22:35:41

I don't think we deflype in Fife grin

Agus Wed 16-Oct-13 22:39:00

Very good point J08. and well thought out may I say. [Grin]

Bags I may try your method of throwing them back at him. Oh sorry, meant back in the room of course.

Agus Wed 16-Oct-13 22:47:24

Och Gally. You Fifers just don't know you are actually flypinggrin

Agus Wed 16-Oct-13 22:55:34

Sorry Gally just read your post properly this time!! You don't deflype.

petallus Wed 16-Oct-13 23:10:00
