Car Insurance

DH has a 10 year old BMW. Car insurance was £450 p a with a £200 excess, including no claims protection.

Unfortunately we have had three bumps in the last two years, two involved slowly backing into posts, one a clash of wing mirrors. This year the premium has rocketed to £1100 with a £300 excess so we are looking for alternative insurance.

I have discoved that some companies don't insure oldsters. DH is 75. Suddenly we are faced with the very real possibility that he will be priced out of driving, especially if he has any more bumps.

We are now wondering how to balance yearly premium with the amount of excess. Obviously, the greater the excess, the lower the premium will be.

I am interested to know a) if anyone has a good insurance company they would like to recommend and b) if anyone else has come across this kind of problem with car insurance.

Sorry, I know it's a bit of a boring post but we are getting stressed and have already had a couple of shouting matches smile

Have you looked at the comparison web sites ? I do that every year. Currently with RAC insurance. I paid £135 on a '56 corsa this year. I can't remember the excess of hand.

Try Comparethemarket.com. My daughter did ours for us last weekend, hubby is 70, and his last claim, for a bump that was his fault, was 3 years ago, she got his insurance for £194, with £200 excess. Can`t remember the company`s name though, sorry.

I recently received a quote from Saga which was over £100 cheaper than my current insurers (AA)
