downsizing

Realistically we are rattled around in our family sized home and are considering downsizing.However, the word itself indicates a backward step, negative thoughts. Does anyone has a more optimistic word to indicate this step in our lives? I want to look forward to it, but struggling to see the benefits except of course money-wise.

Crun, have you looked at Hartrigg Oaks, in New Earswick?
It's a Rowntree village, sheltered accommodation. If you want to go there, you have to be fit, although your health can deteriorate once you are there.

The word the lady uses is free-upping. Sounds good to me.

Re-balancing? A bit Gwyneth but apt none the less.
We moved just over 2 years ago from 7 bed Victorian + 1.5 acres of garden to modern 4 bed house in the same lane. Less space for the junk hoarder to hoard, easier to clean, smaller garden, less maintenance, lower energy bills. Glad that I experienced the period home with all its features and foibles but very glad I finally motivated the hoarder to make the move and in doing so shed a serious amount of c...p
