the man drawer

For a wonderful moment I thought the subject meant a drawer in which you could put a man......presumably to only let them out on high days and holidays (sometimes!)

No, Mr. F doesn't have a man draw.

We have several draws. One that contains batteries, plugs, bulbs of different types, and tiny screwdrivers useful for glasses. Another that contains various leads to tv, computers, memory sticks, camera stuff and other techy items. Organised and useful. I'd be lost without them.

Dh died in 2003! I still haven't managed to get rid of all his clutter!

I left one man drawer in tact after DH died. It's in the bedside table and is full of things like small change, watches various, receipts, glasses, notes from small daughters, membership cards to Boat club/Rotary etc., pills, keys and lots of fluff. Just can't bring myself to sort it out. The other man drawer in the utility room which was full of bits of string, batteries, assorted screwdrivers, rawl plugs, 5 reels of half used masking tape and 'will be useful one day' stuff, I have finally replaced with my 'Woman' drawer bits!

Omg. The fatal 'might be useful one day' scenario!
My house is overfull of these items!

No man drawer in our house he has his shed and garage too store his rubbish. If he leaves things lying around i say is this for the bin, soon gets shifted -

Galen, what if he was right? Wouldn't you feel terrible if you needed something he kept after you had thrown it out?
That's my excuse three years later.
Another problem is that my sons keep saying they are going to collect their dad's things. They borrow things, but then bring them back because they do not have room in their garages!
I do not mind really.

Minestronie a man needs a man draw, a few in fact. Must say I would never throw any of his stuff away- as long as he keeps the stuff in his 'den' and out of my way. Galen- surprisingly, there is rarely a week when he does not find something terribly useful or absolutely needed in one of his man draws

The odd rusty screw, clamp or needle file plus an odd assortment of string, wire, nails etc?

I think this thread is a bit sexist. I've always had a woman drawer, with screwdrivers, pliers, string, bluetack, notepads and lots of pens, paperclips, insulation tape, fuses and drawing pins etc.
I also have a large pine dresser with a row of spice drawers, and they are all filled with useful stuff!
And I have a shed!
I would love a useful garage too

I do mind when he doesn't keep it tidy enough to find what he needs, then goes out and buys yet more. Other than that, I think of it as his security blanket. Who could be mean enough to take that away?

I do now Galen My ex H complained often that he only had one man cupboard in the entire house. I wonder why we got divorced?

I'm with Minestrone on this. I also go by the old adage of: if it is not nice to look at or has no purpose, it's out.

I'm far more ruthless than DH; he's just finished 'tidying' our garden shed. I have a small crate of gardening bits, he's pretty much put everything else back 'in case it comes in useful'- I despair!
