Rechargeable vacuum cleaners

I have aD** rechargeable . It cost 300 so I dont know if it was on offer. Certain members of my family thought it was a gross extravagance , but I had hurt my shoulder/ arm . Anyway , you dontbwantbto know that! Firstly, bear in mind that the charge only lasts for twenty minutes and it takes quite a time to recharge, so you'd need to keep the conventional cleaner, but I Expect they told you that in the shop. Mine is very efficient on carpets , and I wonder if it is almost too effecient judging from the amount of fluff it gets up. It's not bad on the laminate floor but I wonder if there is a model that has specific tool for that. There are quite a lot of small tools. My big criticism is emptying it. It's quite fiddly and fills up very quickly . if you suffer from dust allergy you may find it a problem . I find I have to get a kebab stick to hook out the fluff that gets up the side of the cylinder. I didn't see the Bosch one so can't compare. Hope this helps.

PS I don't have a cleaner ( human kind)!which many people I know do, so as I laboured on the stairs today , I felt the expense was justified!!

We have the G Tec Airam both upright and hand held rechargeable cleaners. We find them excellent. They are very light to use. The upright one almost goes itself and doesn't need much pushing (which I can't do now). The dust gets compacted into little squares and comes out easily into the bin. The filters can be cleaned in warm soapy water. We love ours and would highly recommend both of them.

I also have the D** rechargeable and wouldn't be without it. Makes life very easy and we only get the monster vac out a couple of times a month now.

I have recently bought the G Tech Air ram and am really pleased with it. I had a Dyson which got too heavy for me,but have to admit to a (human) cleaner so all I needed was something for "now and then" and it seems ideal. The stairs and cobwebs get taken care of so I didn't get the multi one.

I love my D***n rechargeable. I rarely get out my big vacuum cleaner now.

This thread reminds me of when my mother came to stay (she lives abroad). One day I got out the D** (what does your DH have against him Teetime? I thought he was the Great British Inventor?). Anyway, I digress. My mum said "Oh, you've got a D****, what's it like? Can I try it?" She had a little go, but said "Oh, it would be no good for me, it's much too heavy". I asked her if hers was much lighter. She paused for a minute, thought, and replied "I don't know, the cleaner always uses it!"

My Mum has just bought a Ram, I set it all up for her last weekend and had a whirl with it. Its very light and easy to manoeuvre.
I loved it, the feature of laying flat to go under tables and high chairs so it saves moving some furniture. You just plug it in to charge when the lights show that the battery needs charging.

When I saw DM today she told me she is very pleased with the Ram.

It was £199 with postage paid and arrived within a couple of days.

Personally I don't rate Dysons, I have had them and gone back to my Henry.

My cleaner uses a Henry and has never rated Dyson.

Does Black & Decker meet with your DH's approval teetime?
I've got one if these on the boat - I like it but the charge only lasts about 30 minutes and then it takes ages to charge up.

I bought the G-Tech Air Ram and the G-Tech Multi (hand held) recently. The idea was to leave the upright one upstairs and continue using the Dyson downstairs. That hasn't happened. The G-Tech is so good, so light, I use it for the whole house and the Dyson hasn't seen the light of day since it arrived. Vacuuming is no longer the chore it once was - in fact I'd go as far as to say it's positively enjoyable! The Multi is perfect for dusting, cleaning upholstery and curtains, mattresses and so on. And for inside cupboards and drawers.
My DD was so impressed when she tried it (and envious!), that she bought them too (they are currently on offer if you buy both). She is absolutely thrilled with them, especially with a constantly moulting labrador, whose hairs seem to get everywhere.
I cannot recommend them highly enough. Seriously. Buy them!

I was lucky enough to win a Vax cordless Air Switch through GN and I can't recommend it highly enough! It has a detachable hand-held cleaner and the upright is unbelievably easy to manoeuvre. The battery life seems to be very good, as well. I had a battery-powered cleaner a few years ago and the battery never seemed to last long enough to do everything I wanted to. I'm very happy with this one.

We have both of the GTECH air Rams.....I cannot lift heavy things now so it was necessary.
I must admit I use them in a slightly different way to old fashioned vacuums. As they are both light weight its almost a daily task...just wiz around little and often which suits the way we live. Gone are the days of a big weekly chore throughout the house.

GS loves using the little hand held one....as soon as anything gets spilled or dropped he dashes of to get it and use it!

I'm just wondering if the battery life fades with time (as it always seems to do with laptops!). Anyone who has had a cordless vacuum for a while noticed that the battery doesn't last as long between charges?

We have a Roomba - switch it on, then sit down with a nice cup of tea and watch it do its job. Perfect.

I might buy the Vax Airswitch (half price now at Argos!). It does seem to have quite a short battery life, but 15 minutes would be more than enough to do upstairs.

my dyson rechargeable is lht as a feather and I call it 'baby', when my mother does my housework I tell her just to use 'baby' and occasionly she uses the dyson animal who I call 'daddy' and upstairs I have the 'mummy' dyson which is cylinder and useful for the bedrooms and the matresses.

mind none are as good as the little upright Electrolux I got from the car boot sale some years ago (pre dyson days) it lasted for 8 years and was very efficient, I never knew if it had a filter or where to get a new belt but it didn't need it, btw Ipaid £8 for it.

btw my rechargeable was £200. the basic model but very good.

I have a Miele Cats and Dogs cylinder upstairs and a lighter Miele cylinder downstairs. I have also inherited a G Tech Ram from an aunt who forgot that it needed recharging. I have not been able to use it because it needs to be repaired.

I have a Vax Air three, which is not rechargeable, but very light. After I had my aortic dissection over two years ago I was told not to lift anything weighing over 5kg. The cleaner weighs 4.5kg, which allows for 0.5kg dust before I empty it. It is very efficient and manoeuvrable.
I do not have any stairs, however, so would not know how good it is on the staircase.

recently got AEG ErgoRapido cordless. excellent. lightest and most manoeverable/manageble model in Jlewis. recommended by them and my own use since buying. v easy to empty and clean filter. nice looking. makes vacuming a pleasure. thought dyson too costly and unweildly.
