How often do you change & wash your bed linen?

My DH objects to me changing our bed linen every fortnight!! Ew! I would love to change it every day if I could! But .........weekly would be my choice. Am I being unreasonable? I think he is lucky that I do change and launder the bed linen!
How often do you change your bed linen ..........and personal towels? (Another complaint from DH that I change them too often!)

"I've actually no idea how often I change bed linen. It certainly isn't done on a regular basis such as every whatever, just when it seems to need doing." Exactly, thatbags.

My point earlier is that bodies are much cleaner nowadays so wash when it needs doing. If you get night sweats it could be every day. If you don't and you're not doing anything to make you sweat it would be much less frequently...

There's saving the planet and there's nagging other people to save it. Sounds as if Mr CrazyMazy belongs in the second group, otherwise known as the pain in the butt group wink

I've actually no idea how often I change bed linen. It certainly isn't done on a regular basis such as every whatever, just when it seems to need doing.

When I moved in with partner ,we had been together for five years, he said I was obsessed with cleaning..kitchen floor only needed washing every three months, tea towels monthly, etc etc. Now I have a hidden supply of cleaning materials and clean when he is out!!! Don't hoover tho.

A woman after my own heart, mrsmopp! tchgrin

I change the bedding every eight weeks, whether it needs changing or not.

Keeping quiet here too, hapgran. Or rather I'm saving the planet...

SueDonim Sat 26-Dec-15 13:06:37

Crazymazy, just have identical sets of bed linen and towels, then he'll never notice! grin

I'm feeling much better now about changing my bed linen every 10-14 days. My aged mum still does hers at least weekly so I feel most sluttish compared to her.

Bath towels get changed every 3/4 days, hand towel in cloakroom daily and I get through several tea towels and dish cloths a day. I'm a bit phobic about germs in the kitchen. blush

Keeping quiet here - think I must be a slut...

I'm with the OP's DH here. It isn't just the washing, it's having to tumble dry bedding because no reoom to hang it to dry. When I was young top sheet went to bottom every week, fresh top sheet, wash bottom sheet & pillowcases - but most people didn't have showers & many didn't have bathrooms, you had a bath once a week & washed your hair once a fortnight, more people did manual jobs & there was no anti-perspirant, no-one changed their underwear every day, men used Brylcreem etc...

Was going to change today ready for son and family but they are not coming as floods have closed roads around them I'm gutted oh well at least they are save luckily food will freeze and kids will probably enjoy different pressies a few days on ?

nipsmum Sat 26-Dec-15 10:34:30

Zephrine Sat 26-Dec-15 10:07:45

When my daughter went off to uni I told her to change the sheets every week. When she came home they looked disgusting and I said I thought I told you to change them each week, I did she said - but she hadn't washed then in between!!!

When I think they need it!

CrazyMazy Sat 26-Dec-15 01:03:22

Thank you for all these comments! Searching out for that 'favourite mug' now!
I am not a lover of household chores - but having been a 'homemaker' for almost 50 years it is now 'in the blood' (sweat and tears!) I love the results of doing the chores and find it difficult to ignore when they need doing. I agree that cutting down on the laundry is a good idea but I don't think changing bed linen and laundering every fortnight is excessive. DH says I should leave it longer to 'save the planet'. It would save me time but not my sanity!

thatbags Fri 25-Dec-15 22:15:55

crazymazy, your DH 'objects' to you changing the bed linen? Why? I suggest you give him something that it's reasonable to object to. Go and throw his favourite mug at a brick wall outside, or move his bookmarks, or something! You could just threaten to do that sort of thing if he ever even speaks about (or even looks as of he's thinking about) bed linen again!

Come on, grans, we need some lateral thinking here!

loopylou Fri 25-Dec-15 07:51:50

Isn't the average in Britain once a month or something? And some only every six months? which is totally gross
Clearly GN's are a clean lot!

Synonymous Thu 24-Dec-15 23:01:30

Well, there seem to be no mucky pups on here so that's ok - and I also wash regularly whether I need to or not.tchgrin

Treebee Thu 24-Dec-15 22:59:18

Towels weekly, bedding fortnightly. When DH was on chemo I washed bedding weekly.

nannymoocow Thu 24-Dec-15 21:15:21

Bedding once a fortnight, change pillowcases more frequently in Summer.

Bath towels once a week.

Hand towels once a week unless anyone is Ill.

Tea towels once a week, use dishwasher or leave to drain so rarely use.

Washing up cloth, as and when necessary, soak overnight in bleach if needed
