Selling off stuff?

I have been sorting out my stuff from the old house today which was put under the bed and I hadn't got round to doing. I now have five bags of rubbish, need some new storage boxes for what I want to keep which is personal and intend to sell other stuff. I could do with the extra money and my offspring will not be interested in my things or will just cash them in themselves in time. If they did want them for sentimental reasons then of course I would keep them, but they don't.

Have other people sold stuff that their children/grandchildren will not want passed down to them or that they think they could use the money for themselves?

I have just looked at Teacup Fairy and decided I may keep my bone china
(there is no helping me to declutter, is there!).

I have a 2 seater pink sofa in excellent condition which I have tried to sell for a song but no takers. I then went down the local Freecycle route and eventually there was one interested person but he was so picky and the darn thing is free! I am hoping that there will be a pick up this Friday. If not I will be lying in a darkened room. I cannot give it to charity because it does not have a fire retardant label.

No takers for my g plan suite either. If I hadn't ordered a new one I would have looked into getting it reupholstered (probably nearly as expensive!). I was chatting yesterday to the owner of a local soft furnishing shop and another customer who couldn't get rid of hers - both agreed 'You can't give them away these days'. Which is puzzling, are people so picky?

Anything I no longer want, whether it came down the family or not, gets offered to the children and if they do not want it disposed off. Either charity shop, ebay or auction.

Selling on ebay is easy. If it is small enough and light enough to be posted then weigh it and you can check on ebay the postage cost, add on extra for the cost of packaging materials. I send bigger items by MyHermes, (as long as they are not breakable), and if the cost of post or courier would be outrageous make it 'buyer collect'

Most of my furniture and much of my china is inherited but kept because I like it and use it. Once I am dead DC can do what they like with the contents of the house, I will not be there to know about it.

I do not mind having 'stuff' in the house, but I hate clutter. I am always going through cupboards and drawers to see if anything has reached the clutter stage and should be ditched. I probably deliver goods to the charity shop at least once a month.

Yes, I do throw out lots of stuff to the charity shop, but I hesitate with some of the inherited things - perhaps I should use it!

I agree, although I may specify which charity I would like them to sling it to grin
