Spin mops

It's getting harder to wring out floor mops these days. I've tried the traditional bucket with side bit, I've tried squeezy mops of various types.

But nothing really works and my (Karndean) floors are too wet when I've washed them. My cleaner does no better.

I've searched online, looking for something like the Karcher thingmy I use to dry off my windows but all I can find is their steam cleaners which are not recommended for my type of flooring.

Been looking at these spinning mops with a pedal bucket.

Anyone used these or any other suggestions welcome.

I've had one for about 2yrs and its great. You can spin the mop to be wet enough to wash the floor but not soak it and then extra spinning near enough dries it off. OH insisted on buying it online I thought it wouldn't last 5 mins but its still going strong after at least 2yrs and it came with a spare mop head which I haven't even had to use yet.

Where can I find info on these please ?

Anya Thu 15-Sept-16 13:40:10

Can I ask what make it is please Tanith ?

Please explain what a spinning mop is? I've got a steam mop from when DD3 lived with us and made wedding cakes (think icing sugar everywhere) which I think works well but my cleaner doesn't like. confused

I've just had a look and they're easy to find on line.

Anya Thu 15-Sept-16 14:08:39

Yes anno I've had a look too, but such mixed reviews. I like the sound of Tanith's very durable one.

kitty one side of the mop bucket has a pedal who helps spin the bit inside the bucket where you'd normally twist and spin manually....I think.

I'd visions of myself having the mop wrenched out of my hands ...

I was so hopeful then remembered carry buckets of water is a struggle

Ours came from QVC but I have no idea if you can still get them there. We don't have a pedal thing the mop handle plunges up and down spinning the thingy in the bucket and I don't fill the bucket up at all I just put about 3ins in the bottom with flash it does all my downstairs and bathroom floors. I think it was about £20 OH says its 3yrs ago. I'll have a look at the ones on Amazon and see if I can find one the same.. I really like it and had to eat my words as OH is always buying 'stuff' that is actually rubbish wink

tanith Thu 15-Sept-16 15:19:50

I can't find one the same and no sign on QVC some of the Amazon ones look flimsy. If I find out the make I'll post again.

I'd be very grateful Tsnith sounds ideal smile

Anya Thu 15-Sept-16 15:56:05

Does it look like any of these?

NanTheWiser Thu 15-Sept-16 18:12:36

I've just had a completely new kitchen fitted, with a Karndean floor, and wanted to avoid the traditional wet mop, so bought one of these, a spray mop. You fill the detachable container with your choice of floor cleaner, and use the trigger on the handle to spray the floor in front of the mop head. No more wet floors, and it's really manoeuvrable, and is so easy to use. I think Vileda do something similar (seen in Sainsbury's).

jusnoneed Thu 15-Sept-16 18:54:59

I was going to suggest a spray mop too, a couple of older ladies I have cleaned for have the Vileda ones. Handy for them to use for occasional spills as you leave the liquid in, so no buckets to worry about.

Anya this is the one that looks most like mine. Although not many reviews. Some of the others just look much flimsier.

I got a string mop from Lakeland. I use it to dry the floor after mopping it. My reason for buying it was to leave a streak free floor.

www.lakeland.co.uk/AllProductReviews.action?productId=21224&productName=Smart%20String%20Telescopic%20Floor%20Mop

So two mops, ordinary Vileda wrung out as much as possible in the bucket thingy, and then a mop over with the string mop. Doing an area at a time. It's really quick and easy.
It works very well.

E-cloths are the answer! They're made for a variety of cleaning jobs, especially windows, and they are FAB. The floor cleaning mop have towelling type pads which just velcro on and leave the floor almost dry. Wouldn't be without mine as they go under the sneaky little gaps below the fridge/dish washer. Have a look on Amazon.

I have a micro fibre mop, with a little tank on the back, spray trigger to dispense water and cleaner. I find it easy to use and works well with my non slip vinyl flooring. Cloths just velcro fix and no bucket to lift or fill.

i had a spin mop, never really squeezed the water out enough, floors were still wet, 6 months later trying to change mop head and it completely snapped away from the handle, binned it, went back to bucket and mop, happy. Also had a steam mop which was not for me.

I recently bought a Vileda kit from Amazon - about £22 as I recall. It has revolutionised by floor cleaning! We have both wood and tile flooring around the house and the mop is amazing; white thick stringy cotton like the old fashioned variety, you soak it in the bucket then pop it into the circular wringer bit, but the extra advantage is a little pedal which you pump with your foot and the water spins out so efficiently that the floors are not soaked. By the time I have got across the dining room floor the area I started on is dry. I wouldn't be without it now. I have a steam mop which is excellent but this cloth one gets into all the crevices and is a really good buy in my opinion.

My steam mop isn't 'recommended' for wooden flooors (most of our downstairs) but I use it anyway for my monthly (slut that I am) proper clean and just use an ordinary ecloth as a floor cloth if I spill anything in between .They dry so fast I can't believe it damages the wood.I have a rubber floor brush and you can put the removable cloths from the steam cleaner over it for a quick mop

Hi I have one of these I think they are called whizzy mops
Bought it from amazon wonderful thing. It comes with a bucket and an extra mop
Which you just clip off and through in the washing machine
I am not a big fan of being extra house proud
I have wooden flooring and some one gave me this tip to have my floors looking as if I had been down on my hands and knees polishing

Put a little white vinegar in one of these spray these with some water.
Vacuum floors then go round spraying and using your dry mop just give it a wipe
Hope this is helpful

Got mine from "Coopers of .........". (can't remember) Good value at about £20 and still going strong after two years. Haven't even used the spare mop head yet because it is so easy to wash the mop in the washing machine.

Craftycat Fri 16-Sept-16 12:05:58

I got a steam mop from Lakeland- it is brilliant & I use in on wooden, tile & lino type floors- it dries as it goes on so no wet floors & brilliant results.

dirgni Fri 16-Sept-16 13:58:44

Absolutely love my spray mop! It came from wilko, under£20 I think ?
