I came across this tip today: Keep brown sugar soft by putting a couple of marshmallows in with it.

Has anyone tried that? Does it work? I don't want to buy a whole bag of marshmallows for nothing grin

Another tip.

I have a houseplant that always seems dry. I read somewhere to add a tiny amount of washing up liquid to the water you are watering it with and it holds the moisture in the pot.

I tried this and it does indeed work.

I have now tried this. It works! My rock-solid lump of muscovado is now usable . I am astonished. shock

Marshmallows are on my shopping list for the first time ever, as far as I can recall grin

Sorry, bmteal - I think that's the Marshmallow plant, which sadly no longer has any connection with the confectionery! But thanks for the tips, everyone. Next time I buy a pack of marshmallows to go on top of my cappuccino I'll try putting a handful in with my "soft" brown sugar.

I do that all the time with marshmallows - I put the leftover brown sugar in a plastic container and add a bunch of marshmallows on top. Great trick.

I have just heard that Marshmallows are good for coughs and sore throats. Well that's my excuse and i am sticking to it.!!!!grin

You could make rice crispy squares, grandchildren love them. Also if you use large marshmallows you can cut out petals for cake decorating,With the marshmallow on its side cut across ,4 times and each piece forms a petal,if you use small coloured marshmallows you get pretty tiny flowers for cupcakes ( spray scissors with oil to prevent sticking) Good luck !

10 seconds in the microwave softens it up. Still have lumps but they are easier to crush.

Icyalittle send them to me grin

Neversaydie Thu 23-Feb-17 13:52:49

Eat them Icalittle

J52 Thu 23-Feb-17 13:27:00

I have resorted to putting it in the food processor before now!

J52 Thu 23-Feb-17 13:25:36

No it just dries out, i had thought it would absorbed any moisture and go mouldy, but apparently not.

cc Thu 23-Feb-17 13:09:06

Doesn't the bread go mouldy J52?

Jayanna9040 Thu 23-Feb-17 11:19:12

Excellent tip. Mmfff, Mmff...

Blinko Thu 23-Feb-17 11:15:07

Must give this a go. I have a lump of dark muscovado lurking somewhere.....

Icyalittle Thu 23-Feb-17 10:58:38

The rest of the bag of marshmallows is still in the cupboard. Any suggestions about what to do with those? grin

Icyalittle Thu 23-Feb-17 10:57:06

I do it. It works. Even thumping with a rolling pin had failed to work on ancient brown sugar, so I gave it a go a year or so ago and it does the job.

kittylester Thu 23-Feb-17 09:36:10

Extraneous 'n' there!

kittylester Thu 23-Feb-17 09:35:47

Noon! Do the marshmallows!

J52 Thu 23-Feb-17 09:20:55

I put opened brown sugar in a plastic box with a slice of brown bread. Keeps it soft and I'm not tempted to eat it! grin

Nelliemoser Thu 23-Feb-17 09:06:35

I put a damp tea towel over the bowl and leave it for a while it works well.

Badenkate Thu 23-Feb-17 08:27:54
