Light the way to the toilet

We have one on the landing outside the bathroom no need to put the lights on. It's very handy.

There is a street light outside the bathroom window. I never need to put the light on in the night.
As for blue light, our home phone has a blue light on the dock which is powerful enough to see where your going at night but doesn't disturb sleep. I didn't realize that is probably why it's blue.
I read that if you keep one eye closed during your trip to the loo it's easier to drop off to sleep again once back in bed. I've not tried it !

Easier to stub your little toe on the door, more like! One week on I have come to the conclusion it is not broken but still have had to buy a new pair of Hovercraft sized Skechers as I can't get a shoe on my right foot ???

Moonlight last night was so bright I wandered around without turning the lights on! We've just stayed in a hotel where we had a flight of stairs from our bed and massive array of lights from one switch so we had a small torch rather than wake each other up.

Like ninathenana we have a street light that lights up our bathroom and as it has just been replaced by an LED light it is even brighter. If you leave the door open a crack, you can't lose your way. There is a plug in night light on the landing next to the main bathroom for when GS is here so that he doesn't get lost! I like the light up toilet though!

Living in a village means, like others say, that there is a streetlight nearby, and there is no need for any lights during the night, once out of the dark of the bedroom, we can go to the loo, then wander off to the kitchen( bungalow) for a glass of water and back to bed, with no lights being put on at all.

My neighbour came round 2 weeks ago and asked me to replace the bulb in our outside light as her husband was struggling to find their bathroom during the night since our bulb had gone. They have 2 very small(4x4) glass panels at the top of their door and our light gives just enough light to find the way.

My shower has a standby blue LED which is bright enough to light the bathroom during the night. Probably over engineered but very useful.

We have a combined safety/nightlight on the landing which is great. The nightlight part comes on as soon as it is dark, and it also charges itself to come on as a removable torch if there is a power cut. It's perfect...wish I could remember the name...I think it won an award on Dragon's Den or some such programme

I've got a street light right outside but it is turned off at 1am. I use the little plug in lights that I used to used when the children were small

We each have a mini LED torch hanging on the drawer knobs of our bedside cabinets - easier to locate in the dark than on top of the cabinet. We live in a small rural French village and the street light outside the bathroom goes off at 11pm.

We've lived in this house for 33 years, so know the floor plan perfectly....therefore I never even open my eyes when finding the bathroom at night, it makes it very easy to get back to sleep
When going on holiday, we both take tiny torches with us, to prevent waking one another!

Grannypiper that's amusing. Did your neighbours request the new bulb without you actually laughing?

Nothing worse than waking up in the night, needing the loo ( on the first night of a holiday) and wondering where the hell you are, and where the loo is!

I have a street light immediately outside my gate which has worked wonderfully for the 30 years I have been here. Then the local council decided to economise by installing sensors on most of the street lights in October so they go off at around 11pm. From November 'my' streetlight with its new sensor began to play up and became unreliable. Then it stopped working completely in mid-January, as did the adjacent one 100 yards along the road! So now we have no street lighting in this part of my close-to-town-centre road and I really miss it when getting up in the night and even more so, when arriving home mid-evening after dark. It's really spooky out there with tall trees etc. The council have no intention of "mending" street lights until they have finished installing all those crazy sensors - i.e. Probably after April! I bet they don't suffer like this in Westminster!

I would love my streetlight to go off at 11pm. We live in a quiet street and the light is right outside our bedroom window. I have lined curtains and blackout material but still chinks of light come in, so I have to sleep with a sleep mask.

I have my phone by my bed (the alarm is set for waking me up in the morning) and just switching it on gives enough light to find the way without switching a light on.

We have drawers which could catch a knee on route to bathroom, I have a coaster-size luminous mat on the corner. Bought in Lakeland few years ago so don't know if they still have them. There are similar things available. Useful if no electricity socket near by.

I do not open my eyes when going to the bathroom in the night. I just put my hand out and trail it along the less than 6 foot of wall to the bathroom: bedroom door, adjacent bedroom door, full length mirror, bathroom door and straight to the loo. We do not shut our bedroom door at night.

Away from home I have yet to find a hotel or house that doesn't have some external light that doesn't provide enough illumination. The one exception, our house in France, which really is pitch black at night. There we have an ensuite and anyway always leave the hall light on at night, which provides just enough light to orientate yourself.

My bathroom door is about three steps away from my bed. There is a street lamp outside on the road and the lady across the way has a motion detector outside light which is very bright and often comes on, as a lot of cats live round here. I never need to put the light on!

I have a portable motion detector lamp. When I have guests I set it up on the landing outside the bathroom door. It's also helped my GS go to sleep in the dark as he knows if he wakes up and needs some light he just has to wriggle or wave a hand. It stays on for about 30 seconds after the movement ceases.

We have two motion sensor lamps, one in the bedroom and one on the way to the bathroom. My DH has been quite ill and although now recovering well has to get up 3/4 times each night. He finds these lamps very helpful and the light they give is not bright enough to wake me up now I have got used to them.

Mine is like a searchlight Meriel! Blinding if you look directly at it

I think it's a great idea especially when the GC come to stay.
