Kettle survey (not really a survey)

I have a newish Asda chrome kettle. 1.7 litres just took 2min 50secs.

That was a good price! How do you find using that shape as opposed to the jug type - which I have.

I'd have to ask Grampy - but I do know we only put in and boil what we're going to use so it never takes long.

I'm a bit anal with things like limescale on kettles.
What I do is get the Lime scale remover on a cloth and with my thumbnail go round all the joints where there is limescale.

Jalima I recently bought a Dualit and I can fill it very full and it does not spill a drop unlike my previous kettle which to me was dangerous because even when I only boiled enough for a couple of cups it still spouted water everywhere. This one is quiet and fast boiling.

I get lime scale on my black kettle too. Is the lime scale remover the type in a spray bottle petra? Because I thought a black kettle and toaster would be easier to keep clean - didn't think about limescale. Back to chrome for next purchase, I think!

Alima - I'm like you - two kettles in 2 years. Built-in obsolescence I guess.

I think I've had it about a year, and can't remember what the last one was.

ps Kettle cost €28 - about £22.

I had one of their sewing machines, it didn't last long.

Charleygirl thanks for the information. I bought this one to match the toaster which we had had for a while and DH dislikes it so we may look for a new one.
Incidentally - has anyone found a toaster which toasts evenly on both sides? I was told in an electrical shop that no matter what make of toaster, they all use the same type of elements.

I do the thumb nail and cloth Petra but without the lines ale cleaner stuff - it tends to be a soft scale and I only use filtered water so the worst part is around the lid. The inside I just brush out with the washing up brush and it comes off.

My kettle is an iGENIX 1.7L took just over two mins to boil.

We bought a new toaster, to go with the new kettle. DH doesn't swear at this one like he did at the old one, if that helps!

MacSporran wants to know why the kettle (that is never filled to the grim) is now full of boiling water. When I told him that it's all your fault, Baggs...he said, that's okay!

I also seem to have to replace Kettles every 18 months or so. We have very hard water so try to use filter jug, however DH just ignores and fills from the tap - unless I am hovering around.
Current one is black cheap buy from Sainsburys so regret choosing that colour. It takes about 4 mins to boil if completely full.

It depends on the actual output power of the kettle. You need to ask about it.
Some kettles have lower power output to start with and take longer to boil from water straight out of the tap.

However it does not cost any more to boil say one litre of water in a more powerful kettle than a less powerful one. It just takes less time.

I had to empty mine carefully soop in case Jalimus came in and tried to make tea - the boiling water would have spouted everywhere.

It depends how desperate you get for a brew .

Mine is the same as kittys, Russell Hobbs 1.7 litre. I think it was £19.99 from Sainsbury about 2 years ago.
It boiled in 3:09.69 so not bad.

My iron is over twenty years old too. Bought it in Thailand. It's also made by Phillips.

4 min 03 secs for a very old Russell Hobbs Millenium kettle.

I bought an iron in Tesco for £5 which worked perfectly well and is still doing so after 5 years.

What wattage, elegran, please? I'm getting into this now ?
