How long does your kettle, when full, take to boil?

MissAdventure Tue 21-Nov-17 19:51:31

Is there a reason you're asking, baggs, if you don't mind me asking?

Baggs Tue 21-Nov-17 19:51:46

Kettle wattage, that is.

Elegran Tue 21-Nov-17 19:52:55

I shall go and have a look.

Baggs Tue 21-Nov-17 19:53:35

MissA, I was wondering how efficient our kettle is compared with others. Had a bit of boiler trouble and I was boiling a kettleful of water to add to not hot enough washing-up bowl.

Elegran Tue 21-Nov-17 19:57:38

2.5 to 3.0, Baggs

MissAdventure Tue 21-Nov-17 19:57:48

Ah, ok. I thought we were playing kettle top trumps. grin

Elegran Tue 21-Nov-17 19:59:54

That sounds like a nice game, MissA, do we drink a cuppa for each turn? Is there cake?

Jalima1108 Tue 21-Nov-17 20:01:19

Boiled cake? (not boiled in the kettle, you understand).

MissAdventure Tue 21-Nov-17 20:01:41

smile I'm sure there is, Elegran.

Jalima1108 Tue 21-Nov-17 20:02:02

Is this thread an advertising one - is it legal?

MissAdventure Tue 21-Nov-17 20:03:52

Well, its more like reviewers anonymous.

Baggs Tue 21-Nov-17 20:05:11

Thanks, elegran. Mine is 1850—2200 so it seems to be doing okay efficiency-wise.

Baggs Tue 21-Nov-17 20:06:04

"Kettle too trumps", grin

MissAdventure Tue 21-Nov-17 20:06:08

I'm starting to feel a bit competitive, as I'm sure my old kettle is still in prime working order. Tempted to go and boil it now.

Baggs Tue 21-Nov-17 20:06:18

top! dammit

Nelliemoser Tue 21-Nov-17 22:44:26

I messed up my a post well and truly there.

I hardly dare say it but our current kettle is doing better than any of the recent ones I have had.

MissAdventure Tue 21-Nov-17 22:52:01

I had quite a few more expensive ones that didn't last long. My last one was from a market shop. Cheap and cheerful, and I've had it for probably 8 years or more.

Whistling kettle on the gas hob here, so when filled to the top, it can take anything up to half an hour. Fortunately I've never had to boil that much or else I'd be spitting feathers waiting for a brew!

BTW in case anyone is interested I have a really good recipe for a Boiled Fruit Cake (only 1st stage involves boiling - it does end up in the oven!)

Elegran Wed 22-Nov-17 11:01:15

Is that the same as the BeRo recipe? I have made that one often, also a date variation, a date and ginger, and a date and cherry, all of which are delicious. (Don't do the simmering, just heat it gently to boiling point, or the dates disintegrate, which tastes fine but is brown all through with no lumps of date in it.)

DanniRae Wed 22-Nov-17 12:53:40

No Elegran - I think I got it from a newspaper or magazine. It was ages ago!

Elegran Wed 22-Nov-17 13:09:58

It sounds similar, Dannirae, Is it 8 oz dried fruit, 4 oz sugar, 4 oz marge, 1/4 pint water, brought to boil and simmer 20 mins, cool a bit then add a beaten egg and 8 oz SR flour. Bake 150 C for 1 to 1 and 1/4 hour?

Anniebach Wed 22-Nov-17 13:43:26

2.16 for 1.5L. Tesco kettle

Pittcity Wed 22-Nov-17 13:45:56

3.37.32 here.

PinkThing Wed 22-Nov-17 14:40:03

Bog standard Tesco dome kettle, cost less than £15 18 months ago, boiled 1.7L in 2:58.42. I always thought it was a rubbish kettle but it appears I was deluded...again.
