We recently stayed in a holiday cottage with a very smart new dishwasher which had an upper tray for cutlery. DH was very taken with how much better it cleaned everything the our current 12 year old one and has therefore declared that we need a new one. We are looking at Miele, Bosch or Siemans. Has anyone any experience to share?

My vote is for Miele too. Durable + efficient

I'm afraid another vote for Miele. We moved 7 years ago leaving a 10 year old Miele behind that had never had any trouble. The current one is 6 years old and has never had any repairs.
I too like the top cutlery tray, but would warn that ours has lost one or two 'teeth'. It is still fine, but I could see it (the tray that is) needing replacing in the next couple of years.
The great thing about Miele is the service and spares - we have just had a new pump fitted to our 13 year old washing machine, its first repair.

I don’t really understand why the “eco” programme on my Siemens dishwasher takes 2 hours, it does have a quick 30 minutes programme which is fine.

Ours has an 'auto' setting which we use, either on the full programme or reduced programme if there is not much. We use 70 degrees for roasting tins etc.

I think eco takes longer because the water isn't heated to such a high temperature. I never use it on the dishwasher but use it all the time on the washer since a man on the radio said it was much more economical for the user and better for the environment.

Our, rather old, dishwasher is Bosch. No problems so another recommendation from me.

I have a Neff and has a top cutlery tray. Been in use for six years with no problems. Neff, Miele and Bosch are much of a muchness.

I'm in the minority here as I have 2 Smeg dishwashers now 8 years old and working well.

The question is - why as I bought both machines on the same day at the same shop (on the same offer) that the soap dispensers are different?

I have one with a top cutlery tray - by choice. But after a while, I miss the extra height you get when the top couple of inches is not taken up by the tray, and I don't think I'd get one like that again.

The "eco" programmes take longer because they use less water and less electricity so they need to bash the washing or the dishes longer. (My laywoman's explanation)

I stopped using the eco programme on my washing machine when I read that the eco "60°" programme only heated the water to 27°! That's almost colder than the cold water from the tap!

I had a Bosch one for 12 years and as it was still working perfectly when I had my kitchen refitted I gave it away to a friend. That was 5 years ago and it is still going. I had another Bosch in my new kitchen and that is brilliant too.

Two dishwashers in forty years. . Miele is the current one and I've had it for about ten years.the basket filter needed replacing and was expensive and no fun to fit. Otherwise I love it.

This is really great! We'll also try this dishwasher.

Our Siemans dishwasher has just died after only four years! Engineer who we called out said plastic base (which has replaced former stainless steel construction) has warped, letting water into the electrics, so machine is a write-off. He says this fault is common to both Bosch and Siemans. I thought they were reliable makes! Research on the web confirms this. Beware!

My Bosch dishwasher has given up the ghost. I hate to say this, but I am totally lost without it ??.
I thought that I would sound stupid posting this on Gransnet, Fellow dishwasher owners, you have all made my day.
