We live a terraced house, kitchen goes the depth of the house, go get to see the not so pretty garden at the back and life beyond the garden at the front. Always something going on as we’re on a bus route. Patio doors at the rear would be amazing.

Where is your kitchen situated?
(122 Posts)I have been looking at my house with jaundiced eyes this morning having no energy to do much else.
My friends are downsizing, hugely, and say it is giving them a new lease of life.
This is not possible for me but I am tired of this one.
In our last home the kitchen was at the front of the house with an archway to the dining room.
I didn't have time then to "stand and stare" but now I do and I would love it.
Any of you have one and do you like it?
My kitchen has three windows, two overlook the back garden, and one looks out to the front garden and small Close we live in. When we moved in many years ago, the Close was very quiet and uncluttered, but now white vans and cars whose owners live in other roads park in the Close so it is crowded and cluttered, especially at nights and weekends. Every house in the Close has a driveway so residents use their own parking, the other vehicles have owners who don’t live in the Close. Annoying.
My kitchen is at the front. Good and bad really - I suppose we are never satisfied.
All my property purchases, now living in number five have had dual aspect kitchens , never purposely looking for this feature although it does have advantages. if you miss it all happening
through one window you can usually catch up through the other one.
Our kitchen is at the back of the house overlooking the garden, I love standing at the sink watching the birds coming and going but right now I'm sat on the sofa in my living room which is at the front of the house with a lovely big bay window where I'm watching people/cars go past and also more birds popping in and out of the hedge so I think I have the best of both, we are also not overlooked at the front and have a park opposite so I can also stand at my bedroom window watching people running, kids playing and dogs being exercised and playing ?
My kitchen is the biggest room of the house, with a window at the front and at the back, so we can see the front street and the back garden. I love my kitchen, spend most of my time in there.
Mine is at the side overlooking a nosy t...t so hope to move this year. I would love a kitchen/diner and detached as well so we are in charge of our own roof and guttering for once and I love music so would love to play my music in a new kitchen. Never too late to change things x
My kitchen looks out on to my back garden . I can doing the washing up and watch the wild life at the same time .
My kitchen is at the front looking up the street, it’s the first time ever. The lounge is at the back overlooking the garden and southwest facing too. We’ve only been here 4 months, think I’m going to like it eventually, hope so anyway. it’s a bit different looking up the street, whilst washing up, makes a change.
My Kitchen is at the back and I love washing up just before dark as I watch the magnificent displays from the starlings
Kitchen at front - looks out onto drive and barn. Would move later today if I could as it’s too isolated but DH just blanks any discussion. After he dies I have decided house will be on the market before his funeral - and neither will be long after the event
!!
My kitchen is at the front of my house. The window looks out onto the garden and the fields and hillside beyond.
The only room with a window at the back of the house is the bathroom.
I would love to have an interesting view from my kitchen sink, but alas both the sink and the cooker face a wall. This was our own doing though as we opted to extend out from the back of the kitchen and add on a really big bright Conservatory leading to the garden. I really don’t do much cooking though and don’t spend a lot of my time ‘facing the wall’. Probably should have thought the whole thing through a bit more on hindsight.
Where is my kitchen situated?
I’ll have to check with the butler later ...
My kitchen is at the back, looking over the garden and the fields beyond. The hills are in the distance. I see the sun rise (if I’m up in time) from March to October.
Anyone remember the old fashioned "back to back" terraced houses ( you sort of didnt have a gap in between the houses they were joined together)
Mine is a Modern version of that, its pretty lonely really as you dont' see anyone pass your window, I am situated at the back,my kitchen and conservatory lounge look into the small back garden and onto the backs of the bigger 4 bed houses. Our last house over looked fields etc I do so miss it. 20 yrs on.
Kitchen at the back, facing the garden and with a very small and distant view of Dartmoor. It is also very close to our bedroom (it is a bungalow) so very handy for bring in cups of tea/porridge/egg on toast in the morning.
Thankyou all so much for replying.
We can't all have what we want but it seems that most of you are very happy with what you have.
I shall try to appreciate my garden view more.
Also I hadn't thought of having the door open in the summer so my little cat Molly can go in and out at will and safely.
My H and I moved into this house 43 years ago so I should be used to it by now?
Our kitchen is at the back of the house, with a window looking out onto our back gate, the passage down the side of the house, and a wall about 8` high, so not much of a view, but we don`t have a garden to miss out on anyway.
Ours is at the side and has two big windows looking out to the unmade road that separates our half of the terrace from the bottom half. Straight out onto next door down’s wall then. It’s a quiet street so we don’t get many passers by. But if I look to the left and squint a bit I can see a good distance over fields way up to the next village, with an occasional train passing by in the distance. We sometimes get the excitement of a sheep or cow climbing over the wall from the farmer’s field at the back.
The kitchen is at the back of the house with patio doors opening onto the patio and a large lawn, the borders have some mature shrubs - camellias, laurel, holly and cotoneaster. We've been here 36 years annsixty and the garden has matured with us! We have lots of birds in the garden including two resident robins. We had a small sun lounge at the back too, but opened it all out about five years ago to create a kitchen diner. We spend most of our time here as we get the sun from about 10.30 am until sunset, so even in Winter like today, it was nice and warm. That was a stroke of luck as we viewed the house on a dismal November Saturday. The only downside is that we get a lot of wind off the sea and can't grow some plants due to the wind and salt.
I live in a quiet cul de sac so if the kitchen was at the front, there wouldn't be much to see.
For years I had a kitchen at the back and it felt as if I was part of the garden. Could keep the back door and windows open all the time which I love.
Now have a kitchen at the front ~ which works well for seeing whatever is happening on our rather quiet avenue, but the huge disadvantage for me is that I don't want to leave windows open if I'm not actually in the kitchen.
My kitchen is at the back of the house and overlooks the garden. I've only been here for a few months and don't know yet what plants I've inherited but it does look rather grim so far
. I've put a couple of bird feeders up which has attracted a few birds but not as many as I'd hoped for. However, there are 2 squirrels who's antics keep me and the GC amused for hours!
Finances permitting, I'm hoping to get the garden looking better this year but I suspect I've bitten off rather more than I can chew on my own.
When we extended our house we doubled the size of the kitchen. It is at the back of the house and has two windows that overlook the garden. One window is over the sink and preparation area and the other is over the table area.
Like Purpledaffodil's brother, mine overlooks the harbour, with fishing boats, large ships and eagles... on a very rare occasion whales. I have never taken that for granted, it's beautiful even if the weather is not.
The kitchen is in the middle of the house, but the sink faces towards the front living room and the large window facing west. However the side window faces our neighbour's house which is only 8 feet away! Not very nice.
Of course we always want what we don't have; my want was always a window overlooking the back yard so I could watch the kids playing while I was in the kitchen.
My daughter just bought a new house, and the kitchen is at the back facing the yard. It is very nice, especially with the young kiddies.
