Just love the trend of white walls everywhere in all rooms that has been around for a while. Really opens up the house, fresh bright and welcoming, obviously not to everyone’s taste, what do others think,

We have been in a small new house for two years. The walls are white, we wouldn't have chosen it but really like it. Carpets and flooring are gray. We are due to paint some of the rooms soon and have decided to stick with white! Who would have thought it!

We have white walls in the living room with a feature wall and I hate it. I hadn’t thought about how the light would affect it - it’s a north facing room and it just looks cold. When I get round to repainting it I’ll shed no tears for the loss of my white walls.

I love the look of light painted walls but not bright white in most circumstances. I prefer the 'mucky' whites from the Farrow & Ball shade chart.

Never had white walls always thought it would look to clinical like a hospital.

Everything used to be magnolia, the fashion at the time. We had a small ground floor flat ln Vancouver once. When we bought it all the walls were a greyish pink. We painted them all white. The place looked so much better and bigger. There were actually 30 different shades of white on the colour chart. We chose cloud white.

You know what they say about people with no colour in there house , they have no imagination.

Who said that?

How very dare they! grin

Kartush Tue 25-Feb-20 14:18:22

Im not fussed on bright white. My whole house at the moment is painted pale cream with sort of dusky rose trims and white ceilings. It was this colour when we bought it and I didn’t think it would grow on me but it did and now husband and I both love it

Lovetopaint037 Tue 25-Feb-20 13:54:19

Brilliant white on ceilings and woodwork. Pale colours elsewhere. White everywhere was the fashion in the seventies but dh always said it looked cold. Have to agree but recently have used marshmallow snow (Sanderson) everywhere with brilliant white on woodwork etc. What is interesting is that each room looks a slightly different shade. It’s all about the light.

At the moment my lounge walls and bedroom is cream as someone suggested it looked warmer than white but I have never been happy with it and am changing back to white as soon as my decorator friend can fit me in to do the job.
I like the clean lines I get from white which fits in well with my furniture choice.

I'm not keen on white, it's too sterile for me and l don't like grey either because it is cold and depressing in my opinion. I have never liked feature walls or wallpaper - l must be very hard to please. I prefer a neutral colour on the walls and the soft peach we have and are about to redecorate give a little warmth to the rooms. I find accessories like curtains and cushions can be darker (l like burgundy) and pictures and mirrors add definition.

All white is bit clinical for me . You know what they say about people with no colour in there house , they have no imagination . My mother in laws house is all magnolia and her house seems so depressing . If we were all the same it would be a boring world .

My homes have aways been completely white - colour comes from rugs, books, paintings, curtains, cushions, which look fantastic set against the bright white of the walls.
There is nothing to beat waking up in a white room with the sun striking the walls - spirits are lifted at once.

Mostly magnolia or white at my little place. I like both of those. If I were getting a whole room painted I'd be very tempted to choose pale sky blue instead.

I very much dislike fuchsia and clerical grey.

Moggycuddler Tue 25-Feb-20 12:28:07

Wouldn't like white but I do like light, pastel colours. Some colour though - very soft peach or pastel lilac/blue/green. And white doors. Never dark colours for me. But our house is quite small and a bit shadowy.

The interior of my narrow boat home is painted white...but it is full of colour from books to curtains to cushions. White is a backdrop for any colour you want to use. It reflects light and brightens any space.

bikergran Tue 25-Feb-20 09:31:17

Magnolia all through here, open plan, but thinking of trying White with maybe some contrast somewhere.

boheminan Tue 25-Feb-20 08:44:35

White walls to me are cold, unimaginative and a very common choice. I like to feel every room in a home has a unique character and is coloured to suit the mood. Somehow a white interior house feels like an igloo hmm

Katyj Tue 25-Feb-20 06:02:48

Yes love it, we’ve had it for the last twenty years. Moved house now and gone with a soft light grey all over, looks good in the lounge and staircase, but wish I’d had white for the bedrooms, they look a bit cold and gloomy.

I am another lover of white ( or near white) walls. I find it means I can change colour schemes in rooms just by changing curtains cushions etc which is much cheaper than an overhaul of of walls and other things. I have a colour called white blosom on my sitting room, the old standby magnolia on my dining room and timeless in the bedrooms.

I am a lover of colour, our old farmhouse sill has open fires we don't often use the central heating system. White would not stay pristine for long, with three soon to be four dogs who wait until they get indoors to shake mud up the walls and wellies and muddy jackets everywhere everything has to be washable, white would not be white for long. I have friends with lovely white rooms and cream carpets which look amazing. We have wooden floors except in bedrooms and could give dulux a run for their money on washable paint.

It's come around again. It seems in the early 80's everyone had off-white walls. It somehow seems too safe and sterile for me; i like a bit of colour.

I subscribe to a home decor magazine, and was getting a bit annoyed the last few years since every single article showcased white walls. Thought they should rename the magazine The White House. I understand decor trends, but they are not for everyone.

We have chalk white paint on the rooms in our small apartment. It helps open it out a bit and reflects the light well.

When we moved to our second home after marriage, in 1977, all the walls in that house were white. Loved it and we kept it that way for years.

White everywhere except family bathroom, which is calico atm.
(Due to be painted quite soon)

We had calico throughout, but found that room by room we preferred white.
To us it is light and airey and I can ring the changes by changing soft furnishings, rugs lamps, shades etc.

I agree with merlot pictures and paintings do seem stand out well on a white back drop.

Our kitchen has also white units and walls.
However the blind and accessories are bright orange.

We have original framed modern art on one kitchen wall all in primary colours, curtesy of our three little grandsons.
It is a sunny happy room.sunshinesmile

White is lovely in small rooms, especially in a cottage. There are some lovely shades of off white which is much nicer than brilliant white.

I like pictures on a large white wall and often paint the frames to make them stand out. White walls also give you plenty of choice when it comes to soft furnishings.

I can't imagine having white walls in my Edwardian house - I just think it would look wrong. Having said that I have a daughter who's an interior designer and I'm planning to let her have her way with my dining room soon. I don't think she would want white....gulp!
