thread number 4
Franbern, I'm sorry for your loss.
Franbern, so sorry to hear about your shocks. Take time out for yourself.
Had a lovely surprise this evening when DS2 and our 2 DGS and Dil Facetimed us. only live 10 minutes away but needs must. It must be quite unsettling for the littlies (5 and 3) at the moment but I suspect they are enjoying both Mum and Dad being home all the time. Not sure Mum and Dad are enjoying it so much. Eldest GS started school at the end of Jan so this is not ideal for him. It will be interesting to see how much impact it has on his learning.
I had a hair appointment scheduled for the 7/4 but had a message tonight from the hairdresser saying she was working this week then self isolating for 4 weeks. She did offer me an appointment on Tuesday but rightly or wrongly I declined. That means I'll go for double or more the usual amount of time between hair cuts.
OH has an appointment with his cardiologist on Tuesday. It will have to be a face to face as it is to check his defibrillator which cannot be done remotely. Not an ideal visit but as it has been a bit iffy since his surgery it is important that the appointment be kept.
We are still able to go out and about although advised and requested not to. I think the politicians are trying to balance everything and to keep the economy going as much as possible. There is talk about the curve flattening and the policies working but we still have the winter, albeit relative mild here, to come. I've arranged a delivery for groceries. All normal deliveries are suspended and people can still go and buy from the supermarkets etc but as we fit into the "elderly and vulnerable" category we can have delivery from the supermarket.
Take care all.
Hello all, I hope you are having a nice morning.
I tried a different walk in the haily/snowflaky wind, and won't be going through that field again, too many thistles.
I've just come on to say I am absolutely horrified NHS staff are having to treat people without with proper PPE equipment. Whoever is responsible for this lack of organisation needs to resign. It must be such a worry for anyone with family facing this danger every shift.
I'm watching Maggie Cole, think Dawn French is a bit like me, if we ever do get together for our post Covid meet up!
I'm enjoying Maggie Cole on catch up, even though it was slow to begin with. If we do ever get together can it be in that glorious setting? Looks idyllic. Would you be able to visit Sue or maybe we could all come to Bondi Beach? (I have an old swimsuit somewhere).
I would never have thought of you as Dawn French. Shandy but it just shows how we see ourselves is not as others see us. Interesting how we create mental pictures of eachother.
I agree about the clumsy leadership in NHS. It seems chaotic.
I received a fab goodie bag on my doorstep this morning.
2 bottles of wine, chocolate, hot x buns, bread some other "essentials" and the washing up liquid which was all I had asked for! I didn't say it was urgent either. I had left out some art materials for one of the young women who usually works in my studio but can't while we are isolating.
Shandy57 I have a smart TV but itv hub does want to except me. No loss. Much prefere I player and all four wider choice.
Grammaretto that was a lovely surprise.
SueH49 hope all goes well at the check up.
Had a melt down earlier I couldn't open the milk. Found tears running down my face and felt instantly ashamed in the light of Franbern's news yesterday. I hate not being able to do things I could 6 months ago. Sorry having a pity fest. I'll snap out if it.
My daughter doing some shopping for me tomorrow. I'm staying until Boris lets us out. Plenty of to do. Exercise sheet to follow and a sit in the garden if it's warm enough.
Better have some lunch . Stay safe friends.
This is hitting us all from time to time whiff, I feel lack lustre and tired today. I tried knitting and did 2 rows and stopped, cannot read or I would nod off, no pointless cleaning for me. All I have done is sow a few seeds in 2 pots and cooked a simple lunch. Outlander is on tv. I do get a day like this from time to time, when my body say to rest, so I do but I fear that it is becoming harder for us all. The isolation, it is tough
Sunday is a day of rest crafty . You have been beavering away all week . You deserve a sit down. I find I am getting up later and going to bed earlier.
It's been a lovely sunny day here so I wandered around the garden picking wild garlic and loads of plastic litter which blows into our garden from the neighbouring flats/pubs/ takeaways etc. The drawback of living in a town centre.
I had a turn at being really fed up yesterday too Whiff. I am determined to watch fewer virus reports.
Your dog looks very happy Ellianne
Franbern thank you for suggesting I came to the thread , Gransnet is a bit overwhelming for a starter, but I will try following this and post snippets! What surreal times we live in when all contact is via conference calls. Last week , which was both my birthday and Mothering Sunday was a very lively discussion with lots of chaos and at the end my thought was - thank goodness I’m not going to have to wash all the sheets and towels. Today’s discussion was much more difficult - it would have been my 2nd (of 4) daughter’s birthday, she died 3.5 years ago and I’d made a cake to share virtually - she always baked a cake to mark an occasion, then I found that her widower hadn’t mentioned to their 4 young children that it would have been mummy’s birthday - oh dear. And all the family dynamics that change with such an event come to the fore. We used to be a comfortable sofa, now we are a very wobbly 3 legged stool! Thanks for listening.
Welcome Gaga1950. Franbern is taking some time out but everyone on here listens to everyone else and the discussions are wonderfully diverse and spontaneous. Just join in.
Ive just been easing some of the previous posts and found Shandy’s? about the cat behind the skirting board. It did make me laugh and bought to mind the day some one came to look round our house a month or so ago. I had put on the heating, as you do when people are coming to look round, went out to do my volunteering bit at school, came back to the most terrible smell and a cloud of flies in the dining room. It seems that something had died under the floorboards and the warmth from the heating had set up the decomposing process and the flies to hatch all in a short 3 hours. Apparently the viewer didn’t bat an eyelid, but then he didn’t make an offer either. Trying to get my husband to sort it was pointless as he can’t smell anything! It does finally seem to have gone away!
Ellianne that is so lovely of you. I hope Franbern is not unwell.
Gagal950 welcome to the gang we are a friendly bunch all brought together by Craftyone who started the original thread. As you have probably read we are a mixed bunch . Feel free to talk about anything I do and have not been shot down once yet. Look forward to hearing more about your experiences.
Hello Whiff, I’ve just been reading posts at random and saw yours about missing the end of Midsummer Murders - trivial - how can you say such a thing! My husband has watched them numerous times - he never remembers how they end so just waits for the episode to come round again. Currently we are deep in Last Tango in Halifax! What are others watching?
Hello Gaga1950 what a time to be trying to sell! Or buy for that matter.
We do have the luxury of armchair shop windowing and can drool over houses.
DD is actually moving this weekend. I haven't heard yet how they are coping. It must be awful. It's a rented property so at least they don't need lawyers etc. Just the thought of them having to pack a hire van with all their possessions and 2 little children and driving for 2 hours makes me very anxious.
welcome gaga1950. No-one gets shot down here, we are kind to each other.
It is ridiculous grammaretto, I have wiped the day out and am now counting down to bedtime.I expect I will wake up bounding with energy as usual and would like to think that I will do some exercise on my bike. It is a N wind again, so will feel like winter but I have to keep the body moving. Shandy said she had some snowflakes earlier.
It is quite interesting to be eating out of the stores, I have been doing it for 2 weeks but am getting veg and fruit and milk delivered. I must say that I am glad not to have to go shopping. Tonight I will definitely write that short list to include exercise and making some buns and perhaps dusting those skirtings
Grammaretto - as you say what a time to be selling - I’m sure, if you’ll allow me to remain on the thread, it will become clear over time why we are having to sell, not really our first choice!
Craftyone: I hope you didn’t feel I was being unkind to Whiff with my response about Midsummer Murders - if it came across that way I will need to moderate how I put things! Having read some other threads on occasion I have been surprised at how judgemental some can be. If you haven’t got anything nice to say keep quiet is how I would wish to live. Off now to brave our cold bathroom in this north wind.
Most annoyed. I had a parcel scheduled to be delivered today and opted to have it left in a safe place if no one was not home. Then had an email saying it was unlikely the parcel would be delivered today but if it was and no one was home it would be left in a safe place. After this email I decided to go and have a necessary blood test as that would leave me clear to receive the parcel tomorrow. Arrived home to find a card saying they had tried to deliver the parcel but as no one was home it was returned to the post office for collection. Why bother to give options if they don't bide by them.
After having my blood test we drove by our old house, less than a week after we settled work has started on removing trees to allow the development. Was sad to see my favourite tree a huge Norfolk Island Pine that I planted 35 years ago being prepared for removal. It will be interesting to keep an eye on how the development progresses now that so many things have shut down. I'm thinking our intention to be out of the rental and into a place of our own by Christmas is unlikely to be realised at least we have a comfortable roof over our heads.
Welcome Gaga1950, lots of support and suggestions to be had on this thread and as you will have noticed we do not always restrict the chat to buying and selling houses.
Grammaretto, I hope your DD's move went well. One thing with this restriction to movement is that boxes will most likely get sorted sooner than without it. I could do with some of your goodies bag, I'm down to my last bottle of red. Plenty of bubbles in the house and also white but red is my choice.
Ellianne, I'd love to come to the meet up. I need a good excuse to visit England again. Bondi beach is closed but also in Sydney and I'm in Melbourne and I'm not really a beach person.
I find it really interesting. DH is a real homebody, he is happy to spend his days pottering around in his shed doing this and that but a few days into being told he should be staying at home he is so bored and wants to go out. He even decided to drive me to have blood test just to get out of the house/shed. Might have something with him picking up a new car on Friday and it sitting in the carport undriven since then.
Gaga1950 Craftyone knows you were not being unkind to me and I didn't read it that way. Since moving to my bungalow in August after dinner I get into my PJs and dressing gown and watch telly. Never did that in my old house. Anyway my feet get cold. My wonderful daughter in law crochet me this beautiful blanket as a welcome to your new home gift. So I put it on my feet then a bit higher and all cosy I tend to nod off . Never intend to but every few nights do. Makes me sound old but only 61 honest.
How long have you had your house on the market and do you know where you want to move to?
Making marmalade today but before that need to get a chicken stew on the go. Then that's 6 dinners sorted.
Hope everyone has a good day and stay safe friends.
gaga1950, tell us about your house sale and where you are looking
Whiff are you and I the only larks on here? Thank goodness for normal energy today. Its not exactly enticing weather for going cycling. I put the heating back on yesterday afternoon, felt chilled even though I had two tops on
This potential 6 months, there are going to have to be exemptions for MOT in place, I cannot see everyone piling in and getting them done before the next nasty wave. I`ll charge my car battery in 2 days and make sure that my tyres are pumped up. Also winter fuel for next winter, it seems as though there will only be a couple of months to get everything done before next winter, boiler servicing and so on
Morning all, Monday again!
Hello to Gaga1950, you will find this thread very pleasant. Good luck with your sale, I look forward to hearing more about it.
Sunny this morning and a lot warmer. I now see it is government advice not to drive to walks with your dog. My birds at the beach will be wondering where I am.
Have a good day whatever you are doing
Hi everybody
I was going to ask if everyone had a good weekend, but my days are all running into each other and the weekend is no longer a different day, although DH said yesterday that we should try to keep Sunday as a ‘day of rest’ I think he was fed up with me hoovering while he was watching yet another car programme. We are in week 3 of our shut in because DH was pretty unwell.
DH has decided that at some stage we should all move to a small holding in Wales, with outbuildings so that the whole family along with animals can live in harmony, DDs, GCs and partners, well that sounds like fun doesn’t it? Oh and 20 acres of land , (that will be handy when we all fall out.)
At least it will give him something to Occupy himself with over the next 6 months, and who knows?
Meanwhile if the wind ever drops we have a small poly tunnel to erect, some soil has arrived but not enough and I doubt that any more will arrive now.
Hope everyone has a good day, unpacking or packing or just having a good clear out and let’s hope that Spring comes back soon.
gaga I meant to say that everyone on here has had some actual experience of moving and/or selling or even serious looking or hopeful selling process, really that is the basis of this thread. The chat is just a small extra for quiet times, not the primary purpose of the thread
Good morning. Glad the larks have got today's conversation rolling. I'm more of a night bird.
We can actually walk to our beach Shandy but unlike yours, ours is a seafront with benches and shops and could turn into a meeting ground if too many people head down there. I'm sure that the warm weather forecast at Easter will make it a popular spot.
When do you predict the next nasty wave of this crafty? I'm guessing the children will be allowed back to school in September so does that become a dangerous time, not necessarily for them thank goodness, but for others?
Yum, I love marmalade with big chewy chunks Whiff but pickle with smaller chunks.
Sue we have friends in Cashmere, is that round your way?
I'm off down to the river with the dog.
