The good news is that the offer has been upped to the lower asking price (EA recommended x to x on listing) and we have accepted.

As for offers, we bought off plan in 1981 (never again) and paid below the asking price in 1985 and 2003. It all depends on the position of the vendor.

I volunteer in a charity shop and customers are always trying to barter. It's becoming very commonplace.

Must go and get some quotes from solicitors etc.

Whiff Wed 11-Nov-20 12:02:03

Pittcity that's great news. Hope all goes well from now on.

Elusivebutterfly Wed 11-Nov-20 12:50:49

Pittcity, congratulations on finding a buyer.

Ellianne Wed 11-Nov-20 13:27:58

Great news Pittcciy. Now the fun starts!

Shandy57 Wed 11-Nov-20 13:32:26

Fantastic Pittcity! Enjoy viewings and remember to have your list of 'must haves', along with your 'nice to haves'. In the end I couldn't live without a garden, although I tried to convince myself I could.

Just popped in to say my neighbour knocked just now - her Lenovo Ideapad, same as mine, is dead as a Dodo. She's very upset, as I was, as the only option is to send it away, the local repair shop is closed because of lockdown. I'll be printing out her label for her collection later, not sure how the company think you can do this with no connection.

Pittcity Wed 11-Nov-20 16:36:08

I've no problem with finding places, it's DH who is fussy.
That said I hated this place when we bought it in 2003 and it's home now, albeit too big.
I've already put out one black sack of old, broken toys for the bin man and culled a stack of old documents. I've also got a conveyancer at a reasonable fixed price.
I hope that I'll soon be able to unload stuff at a charity shop!

Shandy57 Wed 11-Nov-20 16:49:52

Glad you have found a reasonably priced conveyancer Pittcity, my solicitor is expensive but has been looking after my family for over twenty years now.

I've just popped in to say my surveyor has emailed this afternoon, he thinks it is a nice property and can see nothing of great concern. He'll be forwarding the report in a few days. Phew! It's a relief smile

GrannySomerset Wed 11-Nov-20 17:23:21

Good news, Shandy. Onwards!

Ellianne Wed 11-Nov-20 17:25:58

Whoopee Shandy! Onwards and upwards. So pleased for you.

Niobe Wed 11-Nov-20 17:26:11

Pittcity- congratulations ! You are another step closer to your goal.
That’s a relief Shandy! One more hurdle overcome.

midgey Wed 11-Nov-20 17:28:04

That’s two lots of good news......things often go in threes. Who else needs some?

Whiff Wed 11-Nov-20 17:35:11

Shandy brilliant news. All steam ahead. Do you know if the vendor has found a property? Soon be out of the rental.

Pittcity good news to. Now decluttering in earnest ready for your new home when you find it.

Morning all, lashing rain in the night but I've woken up to sunshine.

Whiff, I don't know if the vendor has found somewhere, but I did hear the area she is moving to in Scotland is locked down so that will probably limit her house hunting. She is moving to be near her parents, but isn't going to move in with them. I haven't heard anything from my solicitor, but he has paid my cheque in. I've let the EA know my survey didn't throw up any problems. Just a waiting game now!

I am giving my sofa and chair to my son, he has now measured his door frame and I can pass the measurements on - the removal man seemed to think it would be difficult to get in and he might have to bring it back. It's dark red leather and the 'seat' part is too shallow for me, I prefer to sit back more, I don't mind replacing it. I had to leave my marvellous huge sofa at the house, that definitely wouldn't go in! Still having trouble with pain from my 'tail' ,no swelling or anything externally, I think it could be arthritis from my psoriasis. What a bore!

Craftyone, I hope you are enjoying yourself and staying warm and well.

Enjoy your day everyone smile

Whiff Thu 12-Nov-20 11:02:51

Shandy I hope your son is paying to have the sofa and chair delivered and not you. As you need to keep hold of every penny you can . You will be surprised how much you will spend the first year in your new home.

I know you can be generous with your children. But be honest how much help have they given you. You need to put yourself first for once. I have told you this in a PM . Perhaps me saying it on here you will take notice. You have said time and time again about you worry about money. Time to put your sensible head on.

I think estate agents can still work in Scotland the same as they can here.

Luckygirl Thu 12-Nov-20 11:28:07

Sale has just fallen through for the fourth time.

Whiff Thu 12-Nov-20 12:13:45

Luckygirl I am so sorry. It happened to me twice but four times that's just not fair. Did they give a reason? Is the house back on the market? Hope you get another buyer soon.

Shandy57 Thu 12-Nov-20 13:20:11

Ha ha Whiff, as you rightly say I am too generous but I am putting myself first this time, as this is it. I know I must look after every penny. I always forget to look at the inbox, will write back later.

Luckygirl I am so very sorry, what a blow for you. Have you had to tell the developer or have you got a 'second' choice offer on the table? Big hugs. I am on the House Buying, Renting and Selling forum on moneysavingexpert and unfortunately it appears some sales cannot progress because some mortgage providers are down valuing. Wishing you 'the one' soon, it's so very stressful and especially stressful doing it on your own.

Luckygirl Thu 12-Nov-20 13:40:39

Indeed it was another case of "down-valuing" further down the chain - this has happened to me twice. We are now heading towards winter again when the market slows down. Let us hope that people will be wanting to buy before the stamp duty holiday peters out.

I am just in despair now - the stress of it all is dreadful, especially as I am now on my own.

Ellianne Thu 12-Nov-20 14:10:10

Franbern, are you ok? Did you have a better night?
Sorry to hear that Luckygirl. Maybe, just maybe, there will be a new rush of buyers after this current lockdown. Finger crossed.

Franbern Thu 12-Nov-20 14:37:36

Ellianne many thanks Yes, I am fine. Hard to believe on 12th november, I am actually having a sunbath as the ewarm sub shining directly onto my chair in my living room with Patio door open.
Luckygirl so sorry to learn of further disappointment for you. I fully understand how ill this must be making you feel - all we can say, is to stay the course, it does seem to turn out alright for us all eventually.
I have just downloaded a patter of a knitted Teddy Bear Doctor, complete in scrubs with a mask. At present I am in the middle of a knitted rabbit, and the knitted dog for my daughter's Time Out room at school (like their Therapy Dog), and a large blanket, so have plenty of things to continue with.
Yesterday I had a long telephone chat with a friend who was very despondent. No particular reason, just everything getting on top of her. I am feeling very bright and cheerful at present, what with the results of the USA election and the news of the vaccine. At the end of the conversation she did laugh and say I was great medicine, and must remember to speak to me more often.
Thursday is my stay-at-home day - change my bedding, do my washing, rubbish day for tomorrow morning early collection, and daughter comes for tea.
Hope Craftyone is feeling good and still reading these posts.
Shandy - you are really getting there,. Do specify the date you want for Completion and ensure that both hyour and the vendors solicitors have that and the EA

midgey Thu 12-Nov-20 16:13:30

Oh Luckygirl I was hoping you would be safe by now. flowers

GrannySomerset Thu 12-Nov-20 16:17:48

So sorry Luckygirl is having such a difficult time. The whole process is hard enough without such let downs. Our house selling rules are totally useless and make life twice as complicated as it needs to be.
