Cheese biscuits made setting up in the fridge to be cooked later. Skip arrived at 7.30. j
Just had my porridge and after my cuppa outdoor clothes on and filling it up. My son in law will be round later to put their bit in and move anything I can't. But should be ok. Can put things in my trolley and drag it to it. It will be lovely to get the garage as I want it. Another thing ticked off the list.

Have a good day everyone.

Ellianne Mon 19-Oct-20 07:55:59

Fingers crossed for both Shandy and Spice today.

I have been reading about the ramping house prices and the very long wait from agreed price to completion, average is 6 months. I can see shenanigans ahead, sellers thinking they have asked too little. Yet more stress for anyone thinking of moving

Spice all the best with this house. Really hope it's the one. Glad your restrictions are being lifted. It was bliss months ago when I had my hair cut. I hadn't had it cut for over a year. Enjoy being pampered.

I put the cover on my outdoor tap as I found it when I was clearing out the garage. Garden is winter ready. When I had the new kitchen fitted last year my fitter changed the stop cock under the sink from a knob to a lever as it's easier for me to use. Also have separate lever for dishwasher and washing machine. Stop tap for shower is in the loft. But have combi boiler so no water in the tank in the loft. Also all new insulation in the loft. So I am winter ready.

Another quiet day. Skip coming tomorrow so will be getting plenty of exercise filling it. Looking forward to it. And garage can finally be as I want it.

Have a good day everyone.

Did you know that you can have a very convenient switch to turn your water off? My stock cock is situated behind my gas cooker...! The housing association has fitted a switch under my sink that is simple to use. It is called Surestop.

craftyone Sun 18-Oct-20 09:49:50

winter might be severe, we are due for another severe winter so I am prepping for that very soon

I know where the stop cock is, I could turn the water off if needed

I have started to empty my 2 big water butts and have disconnected my downpipe outflow,so that rain goes straight down the downpipe. I have put a bung on the open connector and used a pipe clip to secure it

Both water butts have brass taps a watering can height from the base, that amount of water is enough to secure the waterbutts in high winds. I shall empty down to that level if we are forecast frost. I have long tubing and the spare water will be directed into a rainwater channel which goes to a soakaway. I shall then put insulation covers on the 2 brass taps

I shall turn the inside key on the piping that takes water to my outside tap, to switch the water flow off. I will then open the tap to drain and will leave it open, then put an insulating cover on it

Spice, just seen a reporter from Melbourne informing about the lifting of many of the restrictions in the coming couple of weeks. Sounds good, and, of course, it is as you all go into your summer month. I assume that there is hope that by your next winter, there may be progress on a vaccine.

Also sounds promising on your house view. Do hope this goes well for you. There is always the need to have some compromises to that perfect home in our heads. However, once moved in it can quickly pan out to be perfect. I did make compromises re. my flat - but now cannot imagine anything much more perfect than what I have got.

We will all be crossing fingers and toes for Shandy - would be so lovely to see her settled in to her new home.

I notice on other threads there are people still getting into this whole (horrible) process of home selling and purchase. If Spice and Shandy do get sorted out, it will mean that the original participants in this thread have reached happy conclusions. Be good if both of these can be this year, be nice for this crazy year to have some positives.

Hello to everyone,

At long last we are seeing the easing of some of our COVID restrictions. Not fully released from lockdown yet but vastly improved situation from tomorrow. Our 5 kilometre travel allowance will change to 25 kms and there is the politicians promise that as of November 1st many more restrictions will be removed, we will then be able to leave home for any reason and retail will open up fully. We have had only 1 or 2 new cases for each of the last 5 days so obviously vastly improved situation from the 723 daily cases in mid June.

I've already had a text from my hairdresser to see if I want to have my hair cut on Tuesday as she can start work again tomorrow. It was last done 3 months ago so I should have had 2 cuts in that time.

Encouraging news from you Shandy, fingers crossed for a wonderful outcome for you.

Ellianne and Franbern good luck with your floor hunting. There are so many choices these days that choosing anything is hard.

I have an old oak fold up chair which needs recovering that was my Mum's. Now that restrictions are eased I can start looking for some upholsterers and decide on material for that.

I also have my fingers and everything else crossed for us. We are doing a viewing tomorrow for a place that sounds promising. Unfortunately there are no photos of it to look at yet so will be going in blind. I had a message from an Estate Agent to say there was a property coming onto the market soon that he thought we would be interested in. Another message from him last night saying it had just been listed and did we want to view it. Funnily enough it is next door to a place we looked at last year and seriously considered. The house is bigger than we need but location, land size and a few other features are perfect on paper! I know compromise is most likely necessary so maybe the compromise with this one will be the bigger house.

Take care all and stay safe.

Ellianne I like the first one best.

Ellianne Sat 17-Oct-20 18:32:38

Takes 3 men to lift it Shandy! grin
It is Portuguese marble.

Shandy57 Sat 17-Oct-20 18:30:30

How lovely Ellianne -I wouldn't have wanted to carry your marble table in the move! smile

Ellianne Sat 17-Oct-20 18:14:52

Here

Ellianne Sat 17-Oct-20 18:14:11

So below is the Amtico flooring I have chosen for the dining room. I wanted it to blend with the pinky colour in my marble table and on a canvas a special friend painted for me.

Shandy57 Sat 17-Oct-20 17:47:58

Just lost everything I wrote by touching something! Thanks for all your kind comments, I'll be back on Monday to let you know what has happened smile

Whiff Sat 17-Oct-20 17:07:28

Shandy do not offer more. Stick to the full asking price. If you enter a bidding war you will look weak . Tell them that is you full and final offer. You don't know what the survey will show. There could be something that will be costly need doing like rewiring, windows etc. If they except you price you could be in by Christmas. Have they got a property to go too ?

midgey Sat 17-Oct-20 16:44:51

Oh Shandy fingers crossed for you!???

Franbern Sat 17-Oct-20 15:21:53

Thought I should get some fresh air inside of me. So, trundled down to Promenade and along there for about an hour. Pleasantly surprised at how many people were about, and how many were eating ice creams, now I love ice cream, but did not to be eating it when there is a cold wind blowing. I was wrapped up warm, scarf, gloves and winter jacket - not ice cream weather.

Tide was well out, So many dogs having a absolutely wonderful time racing around that large area, collecting sticks, barking and just really getting loads of exercise. It really is just about the best place for these animals. Can understand why so many dog lovers like to live close to the seaside.

As I passed the pier I remembered I had applied for my free residents pass to it, but had not heard from them to collect. Made a memo to myself to send them an email when I got home. Of course, their email to me arrived whilst I was out, so if it is still dry tomorrow, will go and collect that, taking appropriate ID.

GrandmaMoira Sat 17-Oct-20 15:19:05

Shandy, I'm glad you've seen somewhere you like and hope your offer is accepted. Any sensible vendor will accept a cash buyer like you.

Franbern Sat 17-Oct-20 15:12:46

Fingers crossed for you Shandy. Might be good for the vendor to go ahead with those other viewings, and realise that your offer is the very best she can get. Surely, a February completion date is a good one.

If you were one of the first people who viewed and offered full asking price, she may think she can get more from other people, Hopefully (for your sake), she will be disillusioned.

Ellianne Sat 17-Oct-20 15:01:19

Yes, GrandmaMoira, I'm surprised too there are no restrictions here seeing as Exeter is so bad. I think the problem is that Devon is a huge county, much of it rural, so placing restrictions on it all just because 80% of the cases are at the university would be unfair.
Not many farmers or fishermen tend to go clubbing late at night anyway!

Ellianne Sat 17-Oct-20 14:50:31

Ooo Shandy I'm so pleased you have found somewhere you like and by rights it should be yours with that offer. Don't let them faff about beyond Monday morning.
February sounds a good time scale for many reasons. Fingers crossed!

craftyone Sat 17-Oct-20 14:44:21

Hi Shandy, be very careful not to be drawn into a bidding war, that seller should have bitten your hand off. Cash buyer, full asking price. Stand your ground with this, EA may try to play one buyer off against another. Be prepared

Shandy57 Sat 17-Oct-20 14:23:21

Afternoon everyone, great to catch up on your news.

My news isn't great. I've been all over the place viewing local places and today I've just offered full asking price on a very lovely bungalow. However it is just 'on the table as the vendor wants to continue with the viewings booked in for this weekend.

Unfortunately I think I shot myself in the foot, I mentioned that my tenancy ends here early February, she looked alarmed and I wonder if she speculates that I will be pressurising her to complete. The EA said I should know by Monday afternoon.

Franbern Sat 17-Oct-20 10:32:56

GrandmaMoira, I feel concern as you do about the winter months stretching in front of us with no real social contact. I do have a bubble with my daughter and her family - but they are all busy, so I do not like to inflict myself on them too often. During lockdown, my daughter was working from home, so we did manage to have an hour together in the park on along the promenade, most days - but that is not the case now. She comes to me for a couple of hours once a week for her tea, and I go to them for a couple of hours occasionally on weekends, but that is all. I am afraid that zoom meet-ups do not really cut it for me.

Most of the South West is below national average, so I think that is why we are staying in Tier 1 - another new term we are learning. Doubtless, as we start understanding the rules, they will change. So many knee jerk reactions from Government!!

Whiff, yes there are so many people who are now scared if they even SEE someone else. It is very sad and just emphasises how damaged mental health is now. There is just one resident in my flats, who virtually scurries to the other end of the foyer (about ten metres away, if she happens to SEE anyone else in that foyer. She wears her mask at all times, (I would even guess, probably, when she is in her own flat!!!). She has been like this since March, even through the summer months.

GrandmaMoira Sat 17-Oct-20 09:46:48

Elliane, I'm surprised you are still in Tier 1. I don't understand how they make the decisions on who goes into Tier 2. Where I live we have below national average infection figures but we're in Tier 2. I think any restrictions should be nationwide.
I know there is plenty to do indoors but I'm not looking forward to a winter with no social life at all and not being able to go anywhere. Summer lockdown meant walks in the woods and gardening but not now.
