Help calm me. House buying and selling stress

Yesterday we popped across to our friends, (with a bottle), who had the removal men unloading. It brought it all back, box after box, chair after chair and every room in the house filling up. Their dog is delighted to be living near our dog, so wasn't at all bothered by the upheaval. I'm feeling so happy to have moved 200 miles and to now have the best of friends almost on our doorstep.

As soon as I hear back that my solicitor has had contact I will suggest dates, I am in a horrible limbo.

I've had a new light oak dining table, chairs and sideboard delivered today and they look lovely.
My old furniture was mahogany with a sideboard that was in my parents house when I was small so the modern light colour looks much brighter.
I haven't had a new sideboard since the one I bought when I married in the 1970s so it's quite exciting!

Elusivebutterfly you are right. The lighter colours look more modern and brighten the room. I've just had a light ash floor laid. It looks snowy!

At my last house I purchased some gorgeous golden oak units. I loved these, and am so pleased that I have been able to bring them all with me. Indeed, whenever I viewed a flat I took tape measure to esnsure that there was one suitable wall to be able take these. They are modular but were designed to look better in specific configurations. I am still in love with this colour, have slightly off-white sofa and chairs, and my new flooring (when laid) will be in light oak.

The large dining table I had (from JL) at my house, which was beautiful, but very heavy for me, looks so much nicer in the dining room of one of my daughters, and I have purchased here a smaller round (Light oak coloured) dining table, with an middle flap which just pops in and out of place without any lifting or moving of table.

Love to keep everything light and bright. Makes everything look so cleaner and enlarges living areas.

Can remember very well those dark mahogony furniture of years past. We never had those, but went along the 'teak' route when we were able to purchase any new funiture in the earlier days of our marriage.

We are arranging furniture swaps with our DDs. So far we are swapping a sofa bed for a small round glass dining table. No takers for our big old 80s black and chrome dining table though.
We are thinking light and bright for our new smaller house.

Today it is two years since I moved here. The time has flown by. I have been reading this thread since Craftyone started it a few months later.
I admit that after all the hard work and stress of the move, I have been very slow to get much done in this house. There's nothing major that urgently needs doing but there are things I would like to do but, unlike others on here, I haven't done it yet. Hopefully 2021 will be the year to do this.

I've started my 'virtual' shopping for the bungalow, and hope some of it might even be in the sale when I am able to purchase One thing I need is a dinner service - I did start collecting Portmeirion 'Botanical Garden' twenty years ago, but much of it was broken with reluctant washer uppers!

I've got to go and queue at the PO shortly, they are so busy I'll probably be outside the butchers

ShAndy when I had a house full of children, and very little money, alll our crockery came from Charity shops. This meant that when a breakage occured I was never upset -,nobody got told off, - just ensured no-one was actually hurt, andt that shards were swept up and cleared away.

When I did up the living/dining area at my last house, I did treat myself to a full dinner service (8 servings -the whole capoodle). Have brought it all with me and stacked in a one of the living room units. However, I do wonder WHY? Not likely ever to use it properly again. (My dining table when opened out really only seats six properly - eight is possible, but a squash) Perhaps when I clear out the units ready for my flooring to be put down I might persuade myself to get rid of it.

Virtual shoppping is a great idea. It was in the April of 2019, that my daughter and I found the dining table and bedroom furniture in a local shop, that I eventually purchased when I moved at the end of October that year. Knew that this was right for me, just needed then, to find the flat for them to go in!!!!!

Yesterday afternoon had to go hospital to have a check on whether or not the growth that was removed in September 2019 has dared to try to re-grow. It has not!!! Although they have put me onto a course of ab's again. Got home, thought everything was fine, had made up our (for my daughter and me) supper in slow cooker. She arrived and we chatted, then I started to feel unwell. Could not eat anything (for me, that is very strange), and my body went into shock - shivering, etc. etc.

Sent my daughter home, (she is less than ten minutes away if I needed her), and fell asleep in my chair. When I woke an hour later, at least the shivering had stopped. Early night and a very fitful one. Am feeling better this morning, but a little sorry for myself . Yes, the test were invasive, but in the past this would not have effected me in this way. One of the definite signs of ageing.

Fortunately, only things planned for today is to do some washing and a zoom meeting this afternoon. Think I will manage that.

No news from me, just a normal day with dog walking etc. I don't feel like doing anything, I need new batteries!

Not done a lot of pottering tóday. Just been in my recliner chair for most of the time. Did manage to get my washing done and dried, but will not put away until tomorrow. Slowly feeling better. It was probably the anaesthetic that has effected me badly. I usually have reactions to these. Have not eaten much today, but hope I will feel well enough this evening to eat my portion of that chicken casserole that I made yesterday.
Thank goodness for Zoom - I was still able to attend that meeting I just pulled a jumper over my nightie. Really wanted to attend this and no way would I have been able to go out to it.

I'm surprised that the Stamp Duty holiday won't be extended. You'd think they would allow it for any transactions currently going through, ie. those who have already engaged a solicitor.

Thanks for good wishes. Am completely back to normal now. Took about 36 hours and felt quite poorly for most of that time, and (so very unusual for me) nearly lost my appetite. I am usually the type who 'comfort eats' when unwell.!!!
Pouring with rain today, so will not plan to go out at all. Yesterday my youngest g.son and my daughter popped over to try to sort out why my headphones were refusing to speak to Alexa. (I use them for listening to talking books at night). It beat them, so now have to wait for 'techy expert', my SiL, to come to me to sort them out. Fortunately, I can use them with a wire attachment.
Yesterday, had my weekly phone chat to daughter in London. She has now arranged with GP for her to have an MRI - but will not be until January. She is still seeing the Chiropractioner every week, and has made considerable improvements, and GP has put her onto strong painkillers. She is pretty sure it is a trapped nerve, but agrees that really do need get this sorted out asap.

Just to say that as I was writing my post SIL arrived. All sorted out for me and working again.

Relaxing with toast and tea after my weekly foray to Sainsbury. Was a little busier than normal on a Monday morning, but still not crowded. Expect next week will be manic. I have only a few things to get them, so will try to get there very early In and Out!!! Nearly anything in fresh meat or fish has Use By dates before 25th Dec.

Looking at the extensive and beautifully full aisles of fresh fruit and vegetables, I did wonder what they will look like in 4 - 6 weeks time!!!!
The problem with my headphones turned out to be (as 10 year old diagnosed , but could not fix) a problem with the Alexa ap on my 'phone. Evidently, I had failed to update this!!!! Honestly, all this updating really gets on my nerves, I never do it - as I am quite nervous about what problems it might cause. SiL sorted it all out and everything working again properly. I love having use of so my techy stuff, and living here, with SiL just around the corner, I can have it and feel relaxed when anything goes a bit wrong.

Nice fresh morning, Had car windows open for a blow through to and from Sainsburys, and now have bedroom window wide open.

So funny I hadn't clocked it when you opened your car windows when you gave me a lift Franbern, I am in a dreamworld at the moment. Nice to think of you sailing along with your hair blowing in the breeze!

The shops are quiet aren't they - next week will be the usual seven trollies at each till won't it. I'm off to get my dog's special food from Pets at home in a moment. The road floods in the winter and I have to go on a big detour, I'd rather get it in now.

I've heard nothing from my solicitor or estate agent. I have emailed, and tried to ring, without success. I will just have to be patient, not one of my better qualities. Looks like nothing will happen before Christmas.

Afternoon all, I've just received my 2.4 m heavy duty line prop from ebay and I'm hopping mad.

The photo shows a heavy duty metal prop - but in the description it is described as the plastic tat that it is - so there's no comeback.

Having said that I must admit that I have just consigned to the dustbin, TWO oximeters. I purchased one on Amazon, earlier this year, the readings caused me great concern, and I assumed the machine was not working properly. Complained, and the company sent me a replacement, but still readings extremely low (worryingly so).

This morning had to go to GP surgery for blood tests, etc, and took along this oximeter, Taken at the same time, same hand that gave a readings of 89 -91 and the one from the surgery readings of 97!!! Sometimes, these home machines can cause so much more anxiety than not having them at all.

Have had a good zoom meeting with my U3A Eco group this afternoon.

Unlikely to hear any good news from movers until early into January. Hope they do all keep us well up to date on their journeys.

I won't return it as the packaging got soaked outside Franbern. I was going to leave it at the cottage anyway and it will keep the line up, but won't last, as it's such poor quality. What a cheek to trick people in this way.

I'm sorry your machines caused you worry - that was a big difference, glad you got into the surgery.

I hope everyone is having good news about their sales/purchases, this Friday is the last completion day of 2020, apparently a few might be carried over to early next week.

I am increasingly grateful I settled and sold the station, albeit for peanuts, it's my first winter in twenty years that I'm not fearful of the heating breaking down, or the roof blowing off. I am counting my blessings!

It is very irritating when things we order online aren't fit for purpose.

I bought a nice chair for the snug yesterday. My DH was worried he wouldn't fit in it. I explained it wasn't for sitting in, just for show! It is made from posh upholstery remnants. The wallpaper is going up tomorrow.

Our son and wife had their offer on a house accepted at the weekend. They are going full steam ahead to beat the deadline. Fingers crossed.

Shandy the best line props are from B and Q or similar, a nice long piece of wood and cut a v in the top. I had to use the bread knife as I had no saw but it worked!
