Morning everyone, a lot warmer here today and the winds have died down thankfully.

Had my flu jab yesterday, first one ever, nurse was obviously extremely well practised and I didn't feel it. I feel for my daughter with the forthcoming vaccination, she hates injections.

Glad to hear you are being looked after Franbern, is it a week till your MRI results? When my husband died he hadn't been to see the doctor for over a year, only the COPD nurse, hence the post mortem.

I've got to write my Christmas cards today! I really don't feel like it, but will force myself this afternoon. Hope you got your tree up Whiff.

I've emailed my contact at the EA to update her when she returns on Monday, and was very careful to state the facts.

I am still astounded the vendor's solicitor didn't contact her to say her file hadn't even been started. However, I am going to be patient. When I thought the delay might have been because she had cold feet, and I'd have to start looking again, I felt devastated - nothing similar has come up and I would be hard pushed to find anything as suitable. Doesn't matter if I miss the stamp duty holiday, it would have been nice, but I will still have enough left to pay it.

Enjoy your day!

Franbern Sat 05-Dec-20 10:08:37

Shandy think there is some talk of extending that Stamp Duty Holiday by a further three months.

Elusivebutterfly Sat 05-Dec-20 10:20:26

Franbern, I'm glad your COPD review went well. You remind me that I need to ask about making an appointment for my asthma review. It's two or three years since I had one and I don't know where my asthma plan is.

maytime2 Sat 05-Dec-20 10:20:39

Shandy Thank goodness the delay has been explained and that it had nothing to do with cold feet by the vendor. That's what I meant when I said living on one's own can cause unwelcome thoughts to spiral out of control.
I am the same as you, I tend to be more of a pessimist than an optimist. At least now you can relax and just bide your time.

Shandy57 Sat 05-Dec-20 11:02:35

maytime2 the EA told me the vendor was 'annoyed' - but she had to be prompted to take action, took four days to respond, and we've lost yet another week.

I asked the EA to chase on 19 November, it's taken thirteen days for the vendor to find out her file hadn't been actioned. Very frustrating, I am steeling myself against my impatient nature.

Thanks for asking about us Whiff
No news from any of us yet. Wading through paperwork at the moment. None of us expect to move before 2021.

Ellianne Sun 06-Dec-20 09:06:30

I'm on moving duty today helping friends who complete on Tuesday. It brings it all back!
They're coming here to stuff frozen food in our freezer and any other items they want guarding. I think we will be having their dog for the day on Tuesday so she doesn't get stressed. It will be lovely to have them round the corner from us. We saw the people from the house they are buying clearing out a few weeks ago.
Good luck all those in the pipeline.

Shandy57 Sun 06-Dec-20 10:00:32

Morning all, really wet and muddy here.

I'm feeling very sad this morning, I think my dog has started to go senile. I took him into the garden last night for his final 'go', in pouring rain, and he laid down on the grass. I have to take him out on the lead in case he barks, it's not ideal. I shut the heating off at night as he was overheating (even when it's 'off' it seems to come on when the temperature drops) and he still woke me up at 5 am. I suppose it comes to us all, and he is 84 in human years.

Lucky friends having you to support them Ellianne, I hope they have a dry day. I didn't manage to eat all my frozen food and had to bin it, then the man stole the whole green bin. I was very worried he'd fly tip it all. Hopefully they'll have some steaks in there to share with you at their house warming bbq!

Feeling a bit blue today, I'm trying to write a letter to my kids to accompany my will, I'm not ready to revisit the past just yet. Hopefully no rush smile

Whiff Sun 06-Dec-20 12:18:00

Ellianne it will be nice to have your friends nearer to you. At least you are an old hand at moving. When my brother and sister in law moved into their house I helped them . First thing I did was clean it before they brought brought everything. They moved themselves with help from friends.

Shandy sending you a PM.

Whiff Sun 06-Dec-20 12:18:53

Forgot to say made 7.5 lbs mixed berry jam. Just enjoying a cuppa.

midgey Sun 06-Dec-20 13:50:11

Chin up Shandy, there will be better days to come. flowers

Whiff Mon 07-Dec-20 08:04:02

Shandy hope you are feeling happier today. Are you going to check with your solicitor and estate agent if your vendors solicitor are doing their job? Hope your dog is ok. You have enough on your plate without having to worry about him as well. Take care.

Shandy57 Mon 07-Dec-20 09:30:35

Morning all, very cold here this morning and the lawn is still waterlogged, but it's finally stopped raining.

I'm going to have to trust the vendor's new solicitor does start on the file, she only got it on Thursday. I did write to my solicitor and the EA to update them both. I am very sorry we have lost seven weeks and just have to hope they can do something before Christmas.

I hope everyone else's purchase and sale is going to plan. I'm lucky to be in this cottage, and will miss the nice neighbours. I have now told my landlord I have started conveyancing, they sent a nice message saying they'd miss me.

Enjoy your day whatever you are doing smile

Whiff Mon 07-Dec-20 11:32:52

Went for a Covid test this morning. I haven't got symptoms just a cold. But you can be tested here without symptoms. I booked but didn't need to. All well organised. Don't why people have kicked up a fuss over it. The tester talked you through everything . Over and done with in a few minutes. Going to wrap presents and write cards after my cuppa. Soup cooking and made a fish pie for my next 3 dinners. Cold but sunny here.

Have a good day.

Shandy57 Mon 07-Dec-20 13:49:44

Glad your test was negative Whiff, reassuring for your family. Hope your cold gets better soon.

Just back from the beach, I'm absolutely soaked, I shouldn't have said it was dry this morning!

Whiff Mon 07-Dec-20 14:01:51

Shandy I don't know if my test is negative as it takes 3 days to get the results.

Shandy57 Mon 07-Dec-20 14:10:09

Sorry Whiff thought it was one of the half an hour ones. Fingers crossed then!

BigBertha1 Mon 07-Dec-20 14:17:34

Hello All just reporting in that after a long and painful housebuying/selling process we finally moved into our new house last Friday. Since moving the last time 10 years ago the process seems to have got far more tortuous and painful generally. Our buyers solicitor refused to exchange contracts until the day before completion which was nerve racking. Completion didn't take place until 5pm on the day with the removal compnay threatening to go back to base and come back the next day (160 mile round trip) at our expense. Still, we are glad to be here now. Good luck to all involved in this horrible process.

Franbern Mon 07-Dec-20 14:47:50

bigbertha1. Welcome to this thread. I do assume that you have been popping in during your very fraught time in the final stages of moving. So pleased you can join those of us who have actually managed to survive this horrible process and are well and happy in our new homes.
I have no idea why and when the time gap between Contract Exchange and Completions became as they are now just a day or two AT THE MOST,.
When I moved back in 2003 - I had a month = four wonderful weeks, between those two processes. Time to sort out and really organise removal company, and fiknish of getting rid of surplus stuff. Those helping me (son and daughter) had time to arrange time off work).
But when I moved last year, same firm of Solicitors and Estate agent and asked for a similar time frame I was laughed at. This time I got four days, and only due to me phsing and pushing did I get that long. WHY?????
Surely it would be to everyones benefit to go back to that four weeks time frame. And would so help to take away a very major and serious stress factor in the process.,

BigBertha1 Mon 07-Dec-20 15:13:50

Oh it would Franbern at least then you have some certainty that its going ahead and have time to organise utilities, packing etc. DH and I were climbing the walls!

Elusivebutterfly Mon 07-Dec-20 18:07:26

BigBertha1, congratulations on your new home.

Shandy57 Tue 08-Dec-20 15:33:33

Afternoon all, I think I might need a boat, it's raining so heavily!

Welcome BigBerthal, wishing you much happiness and laughter in your new home. It is such a painful and difficult process isn't it, we are so reliant on the estate agents and solicitors. My seller is buying in Scotland, which is a no go area at the moment, I'm practising patience.

I just popped in to say my solicitor has just emailed, once my purchase is complete he will be reviewing my will with me, which is a great relief.

Have a nice evening, I am so very glad I treated myself to a smart tv with Netflix/BBCiplayer/Amazon etc. All those years I paid for Sky - I only watched about three channels!

Franbern Tue 08-Dec-20 15:56:50

Been to have my hair cut, and also collected some repeat prescriptions and also some new ones I am trying out.
Bright cold day again today. Had my bedroom window open for a good three hours. Notice that they are including in public health announcements the need to bring the outside air inside now it is winter. Had a zoom U3A lecture this morning.
I have a smart tv. but find I only rarely use the catch-up channels. I do love my Humax and have many programmes recorded there for me to watch. Rarely watch 'live' tv.

Largolass Tue 08-Dec-20 20:19:54

Shandy houses are selling like hot cakes here in Scotland and EAs are very busy. The house next to mine went on the market in September and was sold in 24hrs and the new owners moved in last week. Things are definitely moving up here.

Shandy57 Wed 09-Dec-20 09:17:27

Morning all, it's not raining yet for a change!

Good you were able to get your hair cut Franbern. How are your hands?

Largolass, I don't know anything about my vendor's plans, I have now asked the EA three times. Perhaps she is going to move in with her parents whilst searching. It would be nice to have some idea of timescales. I looked at the Covid travel advice, and see no-one should be entering Scotland. I'm just going to have to be patient, I've done what I can to find out what the delay was and will now have to hope her 'new' solicitor starts the process. Eight weeks on Sunday sad

Have a good day everyone, so exciting the vaccinations have started.
