thread number 7

Spice101 I meant to say I'm sorry to hear your knee is playing up, can you get a 'TENS' machine over there? It interrupts the pain signal, was fantastic when I had my first child.

Franbern Wed 06-Jan-21 08:47:17

Just want to 'bump' this up. For two years this thread was always one of the top ones, seems strange to see it falling down now

Anyway, house buyers/sellers/movers do hope that those of you in the final stages (Shandy, Spice,) are still progressing. And, those like Luckygirl are able to look forward to success.

Not sure how the latest lockdown will effect house viewings, etc. Lady in our flats who did have her property here on the market for a few weeks, as she wished to move a little closer to one of her children, has taken it off the market. She told me yesterday, that when looking at other flats, none of them were anywhere close to being as good in terms of room and local facilities as this one, so she has decided to stay put. Must say, I am so pleased that I managed to move here before this horrible last year. Would have felt so much more isolated if I had still been in my house in East London during this.

Be good to hear how everyone is coping at the moment.

Our sale/ purchase is still grinding exceeding slow.
It took over a week for a survey to be typed up???? This threw up a couple of minor questions but Christmas intervened and these have been sent. Everything's done by email but it all seems so slow....perhaps because we have nothing much else to occupy us.
DD2 who has nothing to sell and is buying a vacant house is itching to move but the legalities seem so Dickensian.
Going to try to get DS to declutter his room today as the rest of the house is more or less ready to go. I got rid of a lot of stuff through Facebook at the weekend and only have one box of surplus books now.

Shandy57 Wed 06-Jan-21 11:02:02

Morning all, hail here again and a car has overturned on the road, be careful out there!

I was delighted the lady that offered to sell me her large dog crate did come with it yesterday, my cat will now be secure in a room at the bungalow during the move, and I'll cover it so hopefully she won't be as frightened.

I do empathise Pittcity, I was tearing my hair out waiting for the EA to find out why the vendor's solicitor had done nothing for five weeks, I hope she hasn't cost me the stamp duty holiday. I hope all goes well once everyone gets back into the swing of things. I hope your DS finds the energy to declutter his room - I need to find boxes for my son's Power Ranger collection! He's 27!

I've just had a 'renewal' for the tenant contents insurance here - and my Octopus 'fixed' electricity deal is ending. I must find my list of things to do when I move. I've budgeted for using the BT Wifi whilst waiting for Talktalk to transfer me. It seems like a dream that a year ago I was making plans to move out into this rented cottage. Car MOT on 23 January, I might bring it forward to avoid the floods on the back roads, I was terrified last year and am sure a small amount of water did go into the engine.

I've managed to pack upstairs properly now, I've labelled all the boxes and will be making an inventory of them, as well as photographing them. I've got a bit of a mish mash of plastic/cardboard boxes but as the weather is going to be bad, want everything to be enclosed. Going to start on downstairs today, I've got a bag of clothes to donate and hope the clothing banks are still open.

Off to the beach soon, it was very quiet yesterday. I do find it hard to get going when it's cold and the windscreen is frozen on the car. Another coffee and I'm off!

Enjoy your day smile

All is going well here. We have had a satisfactory result from the Building and Pest inspection and our contract is now unconditional and binding. The property is listed as sold and we will take possession of it in just over a month.

The removal people coming on Friday to give a quote to pack and move and book a date. We have a bit of flexibility as we will have the keys to the new place 2 weeks before we have to be out of the rental.

I'm still having trouble with my knee and walking is difficult, I have another acupuncture treatment tomorrow and I have been to the hydrotherapy pool which has helped a little. Just hope it settles soon so I can get things sorted.

Shandy57 Wed 06-Jan-21 15:48:10

Congratulations Spice101, I'm so pleased your future home is sorted too. I hope the acupuncture helps tomorrow.

I've just been holding on the phone for 40 minutes for HSBC, trying to sort out my CHAPS payment when I purchase the property .... I have to go into the branch with ID, a 40 minute drive away sad I might see if my solicitor will take a cheque.

I hate the winter and always feel quite lethargic, I have got a SAD lamp but can't find the cable. I feel quite irritated I've just got an email about the cottage 'rental inspection', it only seems like five minutes since the last one. I have to do it myself because of Covid and photograph every room, go up the ladder to test the smoke alarms etc. Argh!

midgey Fri 08-Jan-21 16:56:39

Spice that is brilliant news, how lovely to think you will be settled soon. Hopefully you knee will settle as soon as you do!
Shandy it’s the last one!

Shandy57 Fri 08-Jan-21 19:27:34

Is this the last one? I'd like to know how Spice101 and Pittcity get on - shall we continue?

midgey Fri 08-Jan-21 21:54:06

Please do. I am heavily invested in all your moves! I would really like know how you all get on this year.

midgey Fri 08-Jan-21 21:55:27

In my earlier post I meant it’s your last rental check......hopefully.

Shandy57 Fri 08-Jan-21 21:59:39

One thing I must say is that everyone on here seems to have given up to date, accurate advice, which I've often followed and really appreciated.

I have noticed this isn't the case on some other threads.

Shandy57 Fri 08-Jan-21 22:00:10

x posted, thought you meant your post was the last one! smile

Pittcity Fri 08-Jan-21 22:24:46

Ours is still a quagmire of solicitors questions about work done on the house 10 years ago.
Our neighbour is an electrician and often did work here. He always got the correct permissions etc. These have been thrown up by the local searches and the solicitors are questioning dates etc.
Note to self...always keep paperwork!

Shandy57 Fri 08-Jan-21 22:39:29

I was lucky Pittcity, as the land was owned by the Duke of Northumberland the owner had to apply for planning permission and sign off when extending the bungalow. Lots of covenants including not running it as a shop or public house, ha ha!

I will certainly start a house file as soon as I move in and have everything available, unfortunately the owner didn't apply in time for the central heating guarantee.

Shandy57 Fri 08-Jan-21 22:41:17

Sorry, I meant to say good luck, I hope the questions are answered promptly and all paperwork supplied. None of the warranties or guantees were in with the dox I received from my solicitor, I hope the seller is more energised this month.

Spice101 Sat 09-Jan-21 05:54:35

I think I can work out how to continue this thread. Unless anyone wants to do it I’ll give it a go when we get closer to the 1000 posts.

Franbern Sat 09-Jan-21 09:07:32

Spice, great news (about the house, if not your knee). Another one on here coming to a happy end. Shandy, you must be the next one. Not long now. Pittcity, hopefully, you will be there by Spring this year.

Do hope that Luckygirl looks into this thread, and will be also moving towards a successful conclusion. And, any others involved in this horrible experience of house selling/purchasing.

Perhaps this is not the time, - other things on the minds of our legislators - but. surely, over the next few years there really should be a proper review of this process in England and changes made. Perhaps all of us need to band together and form some sort of Association to actually drive this.

A file of the problems we have encountered, and many are so similar. Something to consider for the future. Does us all good, particularly at present, to actually be able to believe we will all have a future!!!

My eldest daughter, who Heads several NHS Mental Health teams in London, and has, (once again) not been permitted to go into her office due to her having a spleenectomy - has now been told that she will receive her first dose of the vaccine next week. I am so relieved - and so is she, and hopes that a fortnight later she will be able to return to her office and try to sort out her very much depleted teams of Nurses, O.T's, Social Workers, etc. etc. She has found it impossible to get Bank staff to cover and is tearing her hair out at home, trying to work remotely.

I am keeping myself busy and staying at home, as I am packing up all the things in my units in my Living Room and Hallway (including many books, etc) ready for my new flooring to be laid midway through February. The company tell me this work will still go ahead. All I will do is to let them each morning, and then leave them to it, and go to my daughters each day. When I come home in the evening, I will wipe everything down with Virusend, and go to bed.

Shandy57 Sat 09-Jan-21 13:15:01

Afternoon everyone, I've just been out to the garage for wood and there are water droplets dropping from every beam. A cardboard box has collapsed and the glass lampshades have smashed - it was the last box I did in the summer and I forgot to go back with more bubble. It's got a metal roof, and it's condensation sad, I have checked the gutter and it's clear. We didn't have these constant hard frosts last year. Fed up! I've bought in my very precious boxes of bric a brac, my Mum bought me a set of Wedgewood Clarice Cliff plate copies, I love them.

My dog's paw hasn't healed so back to the vets on Monday, just got a horrible bank statement, and I'm waiting for number 3!

Have a good day smile

Shandy57 Sun 10-Jan-21 18:34:51

Life is full of surprises isn't it.

I got an email from a friend asking me to ring the vendor tonight, I've just come off the phone. She is leaving me a few items of furniture, for free, I'm going to pay a small amount for the large floor to ceiling sets of lounge curtains. She is actually retiring from work on 5 March and we've agreed to complete on 11 March, I've offered to exchange two weeks before. She is moving into rented as unfortunately her new build flat has been delayed until May because of lockdown, but hopefully I will benefit from the stamp duty holiday.

I've also managed to do my 'Inspection report' but having a bit of trouble sending the videos as they are toolarge.

Off to walk my dog for the last time, hope this milder weather continues, so much nicer than a few days ago.

midgey Sun 10-Jan-21 20:14:25

Oh Shandy that is good news! Shame about your box of goodies but thank goodness you rescued the rest.

Spice101 Sun 10-Jan-21 22:09:44

Great news Shandy, you are nearly at the end of the tunnel. Fingers crossed all goes well from here.

Pittcity Wed 13-Jan-21 15:28:35

We have today received several emails from our solicitor with dozens of documents pertaining to our purchase attached. I have read through them all and printed off reams to be signed and witnessed etc.
Unfortunately the documents regarding the sale have been sent by snail mail.
We will hold off knocking next door for witnesses (at a safe distance) until these are received. As we've not had a glimpse of a postman for ages we won't hold our breath.
We are also keeping our fingers crossed that Boris doesn't extend the lockdown to house moves and the accompanying need for locksmiths, broadband, removals etc.
DD2 has a moving date for next week.

Shandy57 Wed 13-Jan-21 17:17:58

Great news Pittcity, I hope the contract and TR turns up very soon, exciting! Fingers crossed for your daughter's move, I hope she has a nice day for it.

Shandy57 Thu 14-Jan-21 17:58:32

Evening all, I've just had another surprise, the estate agent has phoned me for an update. Seems neither solicitor can be contacted at the moment, I do hope my vendor's solicitor does write to mine with the proposed completion date soon.

I hope everyone else's purchase/sale is progressing, it is so stressful.

I am supposed to be wrapping all my pictures in bubble and now have no excuse as the fragile tape has arrived, I must force myself, I am feeling a bit lethargic at the moment.

I hope everyone is OK with this snow and ice. We've had torrential rain today and the ice has melted, causing a lot of surface water on the roads. The golf club where I walk my dog was flooded with the drains visibly bubbling. The water runs down the path and onto the beach,it was such a fast river of water my dog was scared, I had to carry him down.

Franbern Fri 15-Jan-21 08:53:18

These last few weeks and, indeed, days are usually the most stressful. Indeed, it was at that stage that Craftyone first started this long thread. Everything seems so near, and yet nothing is absolutely decided. The final seven days of my house selling was definitely the most anxious and difficult by a long way.

However, once you are at this stage, it does usually all happen - so Shandy we are all waiting, along with you, to learn of confirmation of your Completion Date.

I am, at present, very involved in having to pack up (again), so much that I unpacked 15 months ago when I moved. Everything in my Living Room Units and Hallway are having to packed into boxes and stored in my spare bedroom ready for furniture to be able to moved around when I have my new floor laid in four weeks time. Doing a little most days - thought I would also be able to do some more re-cluttering, but decided I will now just pack it all away and (maybe) when I unpack it all again.!!!

Fortunate here, no snow at all, not even frost on windscreens. So glad I live 'down south'!!!!! Although, I am onlyh going our very rarely - once a week to Supermarket, had to go to GP surgery this week to see nurses, and will have to pop out today to pharmacist to collect new prescription. Otherwise I stay comfortably and firmly at home.
