Morning everyone, I've got friends coming to stay later in the year and having looked at my towels, they are a bit like Gwen's out of Gavin and Stacey!

I've always bought Christy in the past, has anyone found another brand that washes well? I haven't got a tumble drier now and will have to line dry them.

Asda they are thick, wash brilliantly, wide variety of colours and lot cheaper than M&S.

Plus one here for the Egyptian cotton towels that Dunelm sell. They’re excellent. I have those and Christy too and Dunelm are better. BUT - like rockgran, I have a couple of old thin scratchy ones that I prefer?!

rockgran

Actually I prefer old and scratchy!

Yes, me too! I don't feel as though my skin is dry when using a soft fluffy towel. I never use fabric conditioner for that reason bt I always put white vinegar in the towel/facecloth wash as it breaks down soap deposits in the fibres.
I've never tried Dunelm towels but I bought some from Wilko nearly 15 years ago and they're still going strong.

I am getting to the end of my wedding present towels now and have just cut up one of the ones that was given to my mum when I was born! That one has been in constant use since then...

If you want something snazzy - and I am eyeing them for our new bathroom - Designers Guild do some lovely colours.

They must have been good quality!

Thank you everyone, my friend's surname is Fox, I might get some of those from Asda!

Best towels I've had were from John Lewis. Most recent are from M&S and although soft and dry well they have lots of loose threads. My very old John Lewis ones are still not thready.

I'd never normally suggest ironing towels but if you do they end up very soft. So even old towels can turn out quite well. If you're going to buy some, I found Argos ones very good but does Argos still exist?

Sorry I’ve no solutions to keeping towels soft apart from hanging them outside until nearly dry then popping them in the tumbler dryer to soften them

Primark for me and I prefer towels to not be soft. As has already been said I don't feel that soft towels dry as well.

Am a fan of most things Dunelm, their towels are good also the range of good white cotton sheets ( by various makes) but I like their Dorma ones.

That’s what I do, seems to get the right level of softness that way.
Never put fabric conditioner in with towels either, better without.

I have a mix, when my sons lived with me I had next towels for the men’s bathroom (DH &DS’s) and John Lewis towels for my bathroom. ( the men all play/played football so no point having anything nice as it invariably was covered in mud and sweat).

I’ve switched after another few posters advised to using soda crystals and vinegar with my towels and it’s made a huge difference towards both softness and stain removal!

I am happy with my Asda ones. Previously I have bought at TK Maxx as they have a selection of different makes.
