Folding dry washing

Why didn’t I know these existed? Does everyone except me have one?

I bought a laundry folder from the bay of e, it arrived today. I’ve just folded all my newly laundered t-shirts and popped them in a neat little pile on a wardrobe shelf. It took about 5 minutes! I’ve been struggling for the past 18 years to fold laundry one-handed, it was difficult and painful and often ended in tears! Not anymore. I’m on a roll today grin

Blossoming, please don’t be put off.

There are always some on every forum who enjoy pouring cold water, or forcefully disagreeing.

My ‘favourites’ are those who post on what are quite obviously Christmas threads, to say they hate Christmas, or else, It’s only October, it should be illegal to mention the C word, etc.

Blossoming Thank you so much for taking the time to share your folding gadget idea with us. Like you, I do my best to overcome my difficulties. I can't grip things as my hands don't close tightly enough. A a bit of help from a gadget like this would be good. smileflowers

Blossoming What a clever gadget. So simple, but so effective!

JackyB That video is great, I’ll have to try and work it out left-handedly! ???

Mapleleaf Thu 15-Jul-21 11:00:41

Blossoming, I'm glad you shared this with fellow GN's, and I am sure there will be many who find it useful. Anything that makes life easier for the user has to be worth it, surely? Those who don't need or wish for such gadgets, fair enough, but no need to pour scorn on those who do.

Blossoming

This is the clip from The Big Bang Theory where he’s using it. It’s like 6 plastic panels, you lay the garment on top and then flip over the panels to fold.

Many thanks for that, ingenious and Sheldon so made me ?

Allsorts Thu 15-Jul-21 11:17:52

Blossom, I had never heard of the gadget, I could imagine it saves a lot of people work if they have problems with hands or arms, also students it would save ironing. .Thank you for sharing it.

PippaZ Thu 15-Jul-21 11:38:32

Do some people like to be more precise than others? It allows you to a) put more in a space and b) find what you want more easily but I don't think anyone is suggesting it's compulsory Whiff.

I don’t fold much - we use a lot of hangers! Sounds v good though. I'm just the opposite Witzend; I fold more than hang grin. I fold my sewing fabric like that too and then stack it so I can see what's available and I think this could be very useful for keeping different sized pieces a regular shape so no slipping stacks. Thank you Blossoming.

This YouTube video shows how to fold sheets using the board Blossoming has but you seem to have to do most of the difficult, unwieldy bits before you get to sizing it on the board. www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnqpDyUeTGo

Blossoming how good is this I have never seen it before I must have missed the episode of BBT
Anything that makes life easier is fine by me so ignore the sceptic's.
Keep posting any other ideas you may come across that will help us with everyday tasks. flowers

Whiff Thu 15-Jul-21 11:42:52

Blossoming I didn't jump on you. I responding to V3ra and Aldom criticism of me.

I know first hand how our bodies can make life hard for us. I have to make pastry one handed and use one hand for rolling. As I can't control both hands at once.

I never said it was a competition. We already have other things in our house with a bit of thought they can be used to help in various ways. Rather than resort to buying more things.

LindaPat Thu 15-Jul-21 12:13:59

For those interested, the episode of BBT is Season 2 , Episode1 x

LindaPat Thu 15-Jul-21 12:14:38

Whoops - Episode 1

What is wrong with you, people?

It is beside the point whether you want a gadget that folds clothes or would pay £10 for one.

Blossoming has found something which makes her life easier. Be happy for her instead of making snide comments!

Reminds me of the recent discussion about paying someone to clean bins. A lot of you found this daft - did you stop to consider that some of us cannot do everything for ourselves?

A neighbour recently asked a friend of mine, if I was ill because my front garden looks a right mess.

The cheeky besom didn't ring the door-bell and ask if I needed or wanted any help, I may add.

Septimia Thu 15-Jul-21 12:40:43

I think it's a useful gadget. However, like all gadgets it's only useful to you if you actually have a use for it !!

Blossoming Thu 15-Jul-21 21:23:02

I’d just like to say thank you to all the supportive Grans, we should be able to post without being subjected to sniping at our life choices and abilities. I shall ignore the nay sayers in future.

JackyB Thu 15-Jul-21 21:27:47

Blossoming I'm beginning to become converted to your gadget.

If you can bear to follow yet another link to a YouTube video here is a more critical review of the gadget, also giving a couple of tips for getting better results with it.

Witzend everything was on hangers but I couldn’t close the wardrobe doors and clothes were getting crushed. I have had a Great Wardrobe Purge and taken loads to the charity shop but I wanted to make best use of the space. I’m really pleased with the results, and I’ve just snipped off all those b****ing ribbons that shops have on scope neck t-shirts to stop them falling off the hanger. The wardrobe is now pristine and beautiful. At least for the time being grin

Blossoming Thu 15-Jul-21 21:29:40

Scoop not scope.

Blossoming Thu 15-Jul-21 21:32:03

Thanks JackyB

I love the term ‘dry washing’ Blossoming it’s how I refer to ironing, less threatening. MrJ does it anyway, I have very little needs doing, I roll t shirts, body heat gets creases out of most clothing, bedding is never ironed (note to self, stop buying part linen shirts!).

Franbern Fri 16-Jul-21 08:36:40

I really do love the ingenuity of people that can lead to them inventing such things like this. Absolutely wonderful, and - I am sure - a great assistance for many people.
Thanks to such items, big and small - life for people with any sort of disability problem is so much richer and easier these days.
Great that G.Netters give publicity to such items, I am certain there will be many g.netters who will find this little gadget a really helpful aid for them.

muse Fri 16-Jul-21 08:55:58

Thank you for the post Blossoming. Sorry it’s been spoilt by the snide comments. That’s the disappointing side of GN I really don’t like.

Agree about the ribbon things.

Oh! And I’m going to watch BBT. ??

Aepgirl Fri 16-Jul-21 10:53:27

Never seen or heard of one.

EmilyHarburn Fri 16-Jul-21 11:13:35

I prefer to roll tops Mari Kondo style.

Theoddbird Fri 16-Jul-21 11:13:36

I worked in retail (clotges) for 14 years. I had a folding table that enabled me to fold clothes neatly and all the same size for display. A folder can be made easily out of cardboard. Look on YouTube smile

Witzend

I don’t fold much - we use a lot of hangers! Sounds v good though.

As for sheets etc., best tip I’ve heard in years is stuffing (folded) duvet cover, bottom sheet and one pillow case, into the other pillow case, so that I don’t have to root around our far-too-small airing cupboard to find them.

NB the only bedding items I ever iron are pillowcases, and then only for guests.

Love that pillowcase "kit of parts" idea. So sensible.
