Anyone got a heat pump?

Do any gransnetters have heat pumps?
What level of insulation did you need to have? Was it very disruptive having it installed and are you satisfied with it?
Was it very expensive and how do the running costs compare with gas?
Apologies if this has already been discussed.

Think I will wait a good number of years as long as gas boiler survives before considering any other source of heating. Like electric cars there will be improvements and hopefully reductions in costs. With all the global warming we are constantly warned of it's not heating it's cooling systems we'll be needing in future years.

With all the impetus on going green, I wonder just how green the manufacturing of the equipment used in the process really is. Solar panels are notoriously not green, car batteries are even worse. Goodness knows what all the equipment for heating is like. Just how much carbon pollution will we be reducing manufacturing the stuff.
