Is the whole worldturning grey?

My carpet fitter and the plumber both commented recently on the persistence of grey in homes and furnishings; they are sick of it as it has been popular for a good ten years and more and shows no sign of abating.
Looks lovely in a clear light, (as in Scandinavia) but very depressing on a grey February day. I prefer cream to grey as it has warmer tones.

Emerald green is were it’s at this year ?

Had a new bed before Christmas 2020 and went off shopping in town in that brief gap before before covid restrictions restarted. I could not believe it!
There was nothing that was not grey I was so disappointed and frustrated. I ended up buying a very cheap silky cotton set from Primark of all places with a huge jungle palm design in green.
I then bought a plain pure white cotton fitted sheet and a pack of Dylon machine dye in a contrast shade and used it on the sheets and pillowcases. Result: A dramatic and colourful bedroom scheme. Win win

Looks good with grey ?

I had thought the fashion for grey was largely passé already.

I never understood it. Not in a country where on so many days you only have to look out of the window. (Sunny here today though!)

Grey is here to stay I think because it is a great foil for vibrant colours. My living room is grey and cerise!

Might add, a couple of years ago, when Gdc 3 was on the way, I saw grey new-baby clothes in some shop or other - IIRC it was John Lewis, which I do like, but IMO it can be prone to the painfully trendy.
What sort of person buys grey things for a tiny baby?
If you want neutral, what’s wrong with white? If it’s cotton at least you can get rid of poonami stains!

The people upstairs to me have their whole flat in a silver grey.
Carpets, blinds, furniture. I must say, it is very restful and clean looking.

I have a grey kitchen. I think its rather smart. Big bifold doors and a window let light flood in.

And of course Carrie and Boris didn’t choose grey!

Thanks MerylStreep, that's lovely, a bit like being in a candy store! I was drawn to this one in House and Garden this month. I've just seen the floor has grey, so Merlotgran was right about pink and grey together!

We've just spent the last two months painting the whole of our bungalow grey so I'm part of the problem .

I find it peaceful and calm. It's light enough to be bright in the day, but cosy at night.

My living room has frosted steel walls and charcoal grey curtains. Shower room light grey tiles on the walls and darker shade on the floor. White suite. My kitchen is a lovely green units, almond milk walls . Wood effect work tops and Karndean flooring in wood same flooring in the hall. Hall almond white. Both bedrooms are lilac with aubergine curtains. My front door is mid green colour.

Everything looks beautiful . I went with an open mind to choose everything . Living room and bedroom carpet is the same as I live in a bungalow everything as my daughter says flows.

If you go with an open mind to choose things it's amazing what you are drawn to .

We have quite a lot of grey, different shades, and white/off white. Brightened up with pink and some very bold Bluebellegrey curtains.

My kitchen is mainly blue. With touches of silver (not grey).
I like colours, - not keen on grey/beige shades. Colours lift my spirits.

We have friends who have completely renovated their house. Everything is grey. There is no colour anywhere. It looks like every other house in the magazines.

People are like sheep and just follow the trends. Personally, I think that grey has had its day now.

In my living room I have neutral carpet and sofas but I change my cushions and throws regularly, to go with the seasons. At the moment I have mustard and bright multicoloured patterned cushions.

I remember in the olden day (the 80's) when avocado, burgundy, dark brown etc. was popular for bathroom suites. I was getting married at the time and it was quite a challenge sourcing a white bathroom suite. How times have changed.

I love grey - teamed it with duckegg blue in bathroom, mustard in family room/study and heather pink in a spare bedroom. A lot better than magnolia IMO and if only walls painted, then easily changed.

I like it. I’ve had grey with mustard accessories, then changed to pink, now looking at changing it again to navy for the summer. You can tell I’m easily bored ?

I loathe grey. I also loathe brown. When we first moved into this house it was decorated top to toe with every shade of brown you could imagine. Very little brown left now. Mostly it's decorated in my favourite colours - my daughter calls it Mr Tumble's house. Hers is decorated with greys and blacks - I call it Dracula's castle.

Our holiday apartment is full of rich bold colours, it’s so uplifting!
As soon as I walk in I feel happier.

I was well ahead of the trend. Returning to this country in '89 I had the house completely carpeted in silver grey. I've stuck with that since then with white walls and different colour accents in each room.
When I met my OH his home was shades of neutral beige. I hated it with a passion and found it depressing.
Everyone has different tastes.

I once bought a place which was almost entirely painted brown and the floors were brown too - parquet. Really dark and depressing. It didn’t stay like that for long.

The living area is a riot! Not to everyone’s taste I know?
