Thank you for that comment Karmalady - I am so very fortunate to find myself in a really happy time of my life. I have no idea how many more years I will experience, am on my way to my 82nd birthday now, I do find myself sometimes wondering if I will see a particular season or place again..

But, yes, life is good, lovely flat, in a lovely block, Nice town, lots for me to do (I am going to do an introductory course in BSL shortly), my mobility scooters gives me freedom to get to all the different groups as I wish.

All my AC seem to be having successful careers and a happy family life. I do hope I will live to see my two eldest g.children graduate in 2024 - particularly my g.daughter with whom I had so much to do during her baby and childhood as her Mum was a single parent carving out her (now) very impressive career in the NHS.

I do feel very, very fortunate, there have been so very many real tough times in my life and the sadness of the death of my youngest twenty years ago. But this, latter time of my life is good, - very, very good.

karmalady Tue 20-Sept-22 14:59:00

I like to read happy posts and I mean this latest from you franbern. Very nice to read

Franbern Tue 20-Sept-22 14:32:39

So pleased Razz that you persisted and have now seen a GP. Hopefully, they can give you a clear diagnosis - and treatement.

Do keep yourself warm. As has been said, this first year, at least, there is a lot of money being sent to assist - eating good food, and being warm and comfortable really must be top priorities.

Has a wonderful journey back from Warrington yesterday, Finally mastered my fear and actually stayed in the wheelchair going up and down the ramp on and off the trains. Each time I was put in a carriage where I could park the chair, and then sit in a normal seat close to it. The middle train (Birmingham to Bristol), they booked me into first class for this. The hour at Birmingham was fine, got something to eat and drink and sat in the assistance reception to consume this and read my kindle. Time went very quickly. Having this chair made me so much more independent in this travelling, just needed the ramps, apart from that I did everything myself.

My next such adventure will be going to my daughter's house in London in October. For that I will also need to use the underground!!!!!

Still, it is always so good to return home. Still so much in love with my flat - one of the best decision I ever made was coming here. Gloriously warm and sunny again today, but more autumnal weather has been forecast for the rest of this week. Just changed the display I keep outside my front door, from the faux roses to the autumn display of faux chrysanths. In a couple of weeks I will change the one I keep on my dining table for the lovely autumn leaves display I use in October and November, with a little hedgehog peeking out from amidst the ones that have 'fallen'. Really notices how much earlier it is getting dark now. The petunias on my balcony all went very straggly and I have pulled those up this morning and prepared the pots ready for spring bulbs, etc. The two pots containing Impatiens still seem to be bright and vibrant.

karmalady Tue 20-Sept-22 14:30:33

re cold ahead. Sitting reading in bed, warmed by an electric blanket, woollen socks on and old style bed jacket or poncho, hot chamomile tea in a flask. A good way to stay warm and cosy

Also local library have online access to audio books, absolutely brilliant if cba to read in bed. Somerset one is called borrowbox and can be listened to via phone app, also has a sleep timer.

karmalady Tue 20-Sept-22 14:23:43

oh thank goodness, now with fingers and toes crossed for you razz

my surgery has just sent info around, they are going back to old style appointment sytem from next week. Not the nearset surgery which has poor google reviews but the good one is a bus ride away. No wonder this surgery got fantastic reviews. Don`t remember when I last saw the doc, maybe 2002 when I had an earache

Razzamatazz Tue 20-Sept-22 12:26:16

Doctor has phoned and said he thinks I should be seen, woo hoo! I'm seeing a female gp at 3.10. I've got to get the bus unfortunately, but have my husband's golf umbrella to use as a stick. Not taking the empty dog buggy, that would be weird! Had a panic about cash for the fare and remembered my 'emergency' tenner. Looking forward to finding out what is wrong, I'll report back.

Razzamatazz Tue 20-Sept-22 11:32:36

Morning all, bit rainy here today, just back from walking the dog. So lucky he needs the stroller, my new walking aid smile.

I did put the heating on yesterday, thanks for the kick up the. I am also just about to find my electric blanket. I do miss my cuddly cat, she used to sleep on my pillow, was like wearing a fur hat in bed smile

I rang the dox at 8 am, number 17 in the queue again and no appointments when I was finally answered, awaiting another 'morning call' from the doctor.

I'm just redoing the Sophie Robinson designer course I bought when I moved in here, I rushed through it last year. Two more blue paint samples arriving from F&B later this week, that's it! Luckily a neighbour has set up a craft group, I'm giving the sample remains to her.

I'm off to check the 'waste collection' rota - some people have put their bins out, I'm sure yesterday has knocked it forwards a day.

karmalady Tue 20-Sept-22 08:35:32

the gov grant for heating should be used for heating razz, I suspect that you are cutting back because of your home repair bills. Franbern is right, hypothermia comes on without you knowing and you think you are ok but the body sends blood to the internal organs from externals and bit by bit they start to shut down if too cold. Once that starts then there is irreversible damage

There will be time to start saving again but in the meantime, health first

Franbern Mon 19-Sept-22 08:36:27

Razz 13 degrees is far too low. Nothing to do with whether or not you are used to it. A living room should be around 18 degrees. People who are ill with, even die from hyperhermia usually do not feel themselves getting colder and colder. Please put heating on. Just wearing warm clothing or covers is not good enough. No point in having savings put away if you are too ill (or worse) to benefit from them.
Hope you are arranging to see your GP. From what you describe sounds like Labrynthitis.
When you are not well, and less mobile than normal even more important to be in a warm environment.

karmalady Sun 18-Sept-22 19:17:47

I have been thinking razz, yes get your eyes tested, could well be that

I need to get mine done too, the coating is off parts of my glasses but it is going to cost around £650 for testing and a new pair. I need to bite that bullet ho hum, that is what my savings are for. I will have to wait for satnav to be finished as I want to be very available. Then dentist 45 miles away end of this week, probably will make the specsavers appointment soon after that. Wish the magic money tree would sprout some new leaves

karmalady Sun 18-Sept-22 17:35:34

Razz you need proper testing by ear nose throat person, could be crystals in the eustacian tubes which are very narrow. Doc thinks ear hence the vertigo diagnosis. Hope it is sorted pdq, stress very much that you live on your own

Safe and pleasant journey back franbern

Re satnav, it is complicated in my car, links in with the cameras and sensors and I need it to work for safety. Fab person, it all fitted well and then last thing, the powering up cable in the box was the wrong one. So he will be back

The other sensors that went on a cascade loop and lit my dashboard have all gone out now. Phew, otherwise that would have been another safety worry. Very upside down day today and have been supping soup for my meals and bread and biscuits

Partly with me realising that I would need to update firmware and software and that meant finding the right files, which had to be extracted onto clean usb. Then formatting a micro sd card ready for satnat imprint before that has to be downloaded

I hate learning all this blooming new stuff. Stage 1 for me will be sat nav and sensors then I can learn radio and bluetooth and usb and hands free phone in my own time. Just kidding, it is singing dancing, much more than I need but the only one that would slot into my car, made for vw

Razzamatazz Sun 18-Sept-22 13:57:05

Afternoon all, it's a week now and it's the worse balance day so far for me today, I do feel grotty. I can't drive, did try and felt scared and had to come back. I'm phoning the surgery again on Tuesday later on in the day to see if I can get an appointment face to face. I've googled vertigo and don't have all the symptoms, not sure why the doctor thinks it's that. I'm not spinning, just off balance. I wondered if it's because my eyes are getting worse, I've not had an eye test for forever.

Hope your sat nav fitted OK karmalady, my car sat nav is ancient now but I don't drive long distances so doesn't matter.

Enjoy your last afternoon and hope your journey home is OK Franbern with your hour long wait. I'm not too cold today, I'm in my long dressing gown and thinking carefully about when and for how long to turn the heating on, like so many others I am scared of the new bills. It's 13 C in here, but the station was always so cold I am quite used to it.

I'm looking forward to The Capture tonight - and some Ben and Jerrys ice cream smile

Franbern Sun 18-Sept-22 12:16:48

Hope all went well with the car karrmalady.
Razz do hope you are taking things very easy and slowly. That is the best way to a quick recovery and if you are cold then put on your heating. No point in economising and making yourself ill. Having warm air around you, to breath and be there when you move around is important and cannot be achieved with a hot water bottle or a throw.
I am having a restful day today, we will go out this afternoon, and then tomorrow have my three train journey back home

karmalady Sun 18-Sept-22 09:41:03

nervous and excited, my av nav is being fitted this morning. I have checked and double checked and the kit seller has checked the size etc. Really nervous tbh

I did some calming by making soup for the freezer, carrot tomato and lentil, 13 minutes in my pressure cooker. Six good portions, now packed, cooling and everything washed up

I shall know if it all slots together in 2 hours. Such complicated stuff, getting the right parts for cars

Franbern Sat 17-Sept-22 17:35:54

Yes, BP should be taken twice day. BUT three readings should be taken each time a and best one recorded. Also wait a couple of of hours after eating before taking any reading. Be relaxed when taking them , arm at heart height. Two or three minutes break between each reading. Take that sgeetcwuth a weeks readings tour Gzp

loopyloo Fri 16-Sept-22 19:51:52

Dear Razz, think you should take your bp twice a day for 7 days, best of 3. Well this is what my gp asked me to do. And while doing it think of the calmest thing you can like swans on a lake. Then show this to the doctors.
Sleep well.

karmalady Fri 16-Sept-22 17:59:30

ps. Martin lewis recommended them yesterday. I should have made myself make one for ds

karmalady Fri 16-Sept-22 17:55:55

oh yes aldom those really are the work of the devil. Very many years ago when I had an evening job, I had to deliver stuff and the low-down letter boxes were very difficult, even at my tender age. and even though they were not spring loaded or insulated as now. It is the door manufacturer, it is cheaper for them not to put a cross piece at waist height. Poor posties

Thankfully I have my av nav installation appointment and on sunday morning. He must have been able to tell by my voice, that I was anxious and also very glad to have found him. Tomorrow I am going to buy him cake to take home as he has a 35 mile journey. There are some wonderfully kind people about

However I have been tricked by oodie, on their site and will soon be in a dispute process via my bank. I only wanted to buy one for my ds birthday. More unwanted stress

uk.trustpilot.com/review/oodie.co.uk

That is me, posted it today, top of the page and wishing I had read reviews before buying

Razzamatazz Fri 16-Sept-22 17:55:07

Yep, that's the type I was kneeling in front of Aldom! And then when I pushed the flier through it was really difficult because of the 'draught' brushes. I loved all the people who had a wall mounted box, only 6 out of 40 houses.

Aldom Fri 16-Sept-22 17:14:41

This is my letter box. I think this type of letter box is the work of the devil. My heart goes out to our post lady /man and other poor souls who have to use it. They are all the same in my little road. I'm thinking of having a wall mounted box out of consideration for others. smile

midgey Fri 16-Sept-22 16:58:35

Sorry you are feeling grotty Razz but I agree the wind is cold! Comes as a shock after melting all summer.

karmalady Fri 16-Sept-22 13:40:50

Razz, you are cold because you are still unwell. You need heating from the inside out, don`t underestimate a hot drink and a hot meal and never underestimate the power of beetroot (also the juice) which will reduce bp

I saw something called an oodie and I think that is what my dd and all her family have, they will need them this winter

Razzamatazz Fri 16-Sept-22 12:55:57

I hope you hear soon karmalady. I used to go our Nissan dealership, until the day I was charged something like £345 because I'd asked them to investigate a 'noise' when I was driving - they never found it. I now go to a mechanic locally, in a dodgy area, but he has premises so can keep the car inside if it has to be left overnight.

I'm feeling less 'unstable' today, but have just taken my BP and it's high. Such a bore. I bumped into someone who had this for A YEAR! Lots of people have had it, including the veterinary nurse I spoke to, I wonder which virus triggers it.

Being poorly has shown me is that it is good I 'found a place' for everything, to reduce the stress of looking for things. I was searching and searching for my kindle cable - it wasn't in its place - then I remembered it was under the pillow after my last bed time read, I'd used the Juice powerbank with it. Glad the system works!

Anyone putting their heating on yet? My feet are cold, and I've got my coat on.

karmalady Fri 16-Sept-22 10:43:17

It has been far too long since I have been `trapped` without satnav and the interface that enabled the many sensors on my car. End of tether a few days ago, skoda rang to say they had no idea when the part would arrive and I cancelled that appointent, had many shanigans re the previous appointment which was also no go, so bye buy skoda dealerships

I sourced a qualified independent specialist with very excellent reviews and he can come to my house. I sourced the kit online and wrt it being the right one, that was double-checked by the store owner. It has arrived, now awaiting the fitter to call or message and I, hopefully, will soon be out and about again, by car. The kit was a horrendous cost but needed as there are many interfaces which will work with the many sensors on my car, all safety sensors

I am not going back to either dealership, neither cares about after sales and it does not inspire any confidence when no-one on the phone has any knowledge about anything, other than selling and routine servicing

Local garage here I come, after this is sorted, I know I have three things that are supposed to be done at eight years, won`t cost an arm and a leg but will give me contact with this garage, which was highly recommended to me. It is less than a mile away

I also have another specialist in reserve just in case but the one I mentioned will be here, hard waiting for the message with a date

karmalady Fri 16-Sept-22 07:28:48

That is a terrible position for a letterbox, the poor postman. So many newish letterboxes are sprung loaded and full of draught proofing too, difficult enough even at waist height

Being unwell makes you think about how to make certain things easier in day to day life, to be prepped for those bad times. Online shopping certainly helps, as do ready meals and a microwave.

I hope the coffee morning went well razz, lovely to think of all of you helping others, very kind
