Has anyone dared to turn their heating on yet?

The heating isn't on yet. I'm loathed to put it on before October. The thermostat is reading 17 deg in the house but it feels a lot colder than that.

I felt chilly today and I also had visitors so I have had the heating on all day.I can't bear to be cold.I have a heated throw and an electric blanket and have been using them since the heatwave ended.

It has been a glorious day here …..so long as you were out of the perishing wind! No heating on yet but a lovely hot bean bag behind my back.

I've set our thermostat to 15, and have bought electric throws to keep ourselves warm when sitting down and an electric blanket for bed. I only plan to have the heating on for visitors or background heat to maintain 15 degrees.

It’s sunny behind glass in our little apartment and as the main room is south facing it’s been lovely and warm. I don’t think we’ll need the heating on for at least another month yet.

No but got the winter duvet out this evening. It's been 6 or 7 degrees in the early morning and I've been waking up every few hours. I have the windows open and which ever part of me is facing the window gets cold and I think it's waking me up.

I've had no central heating since May when my 42 yr old boiler packed in. At last I am due to have a new one installed in October but it's getting very chilly.
I had a hot bath and may just go to bed now. I could light a fire but won't bother.

I don’t think it’s necessarily being early with putting on the heating, but more to do with what the temperatures are doing where you live. If the temps start to plummet, then the heating kicks in unless you switch it off or adjust the temp at which the heating comes on. These last few days, the temps have really dropped through the night compared to what they were only a few weeks ago where I live.

As I live alone I can make use of my wonderful cuddly electric blankets and lots of hot water bottles. The discovery of the newer comfy electric blankets (forgotton if its 2p or 4p an hour?) has been wonderful. But it will be on come the winter..until I face the end of my deal with my provider, which lasts till April!

I put it on for an hour yesterday morning, then again this morning and for a couple of hours this evening, just turned it off.

No, we are in the South East, have had top part of kitchen door open all day. Lounge and bedroom windows are open.

No, but swapped my duvet tonight from 7.5 tog to the 10 tog one.

All wrapped up In a shawl and fleece blanket. Thick socks and slippers too. Really worried bout running up a large bill early in the cold season as we don't know what kind of winter we will experience this year. Have bought another hotwater bottle so I have one to cuddle and one to put in my bed before I go to bed.

We don’t have a thermostat unfortunately. Switch heating on for 5 minutes to take the chill off the spacious rented flat and dry the washing on the radiators.

I haven't turned on my heating, but I was chilly yesterday evening. I hope to keep warm this winter by wearing a giant fleece hoodie which I ordered today.

No- been switched off all Summer. But we did make a fire in the woodburner a few days ago.

Will switch central heating back on when we return from Holiday 2nd week of october. Thermostat on 20C downstairs, but no heating in bedrooms, only our bathroom- unless we have guests.

Don't be cold please anyone. I expect you all know but the first payment of £66 should be on to each household's bill in October and November and then £67 in December through to March. The government have talked about it going on to the electricity bill, but it is up to each supplier*. My supplier (Octopus) is splitting it equally to gas and electric.

For anyone who gets Warm Home Discount it will be £150 this year and should go into your electricity account in October.

I'm generally a hot water bottle fiend - even in the summer if my feet are cold, but not so much this summer. The temperature has noticeably dropped her over the last couple of days though.

Sadly, many people won't have much option other than to be cold this winter.

I still have my 4.5 duvet on my bed and window open a little bit at night, although today I did have to put my cardigan on. I've got two hooded blankets that I intend to wear rather than put the heating on early. Dunnes, they are here in N.Ireland and are online, they have them for £17 and they are fantastic, so thick. I'm buying everyone one for Xmas.

Our house is well insulated do we don't have to use it very much. But when I'm cold it will go on. Luckily I have enough money to pay
It will be a hard winter for many.

No need to be cold- but makes sense to begin to add a layer or two. Been in shorts, t-shirts and sandals until recently. And in winter, my use my barley hottie bottie (microwavable) when watching TV, and change duvet for winter one, and with soft, light blanket on top if required- but window always opened at night in all weathers. Can only sleep with fresh air coming in.

Actually this week staying at a cottage it’s colder here than at home so we put the heating on to take the chill off.

I dont feel the cold and am still in bare feet and t shirt ,my OH is freezing he says. I've lit candles a candleabra with ten t-lights and a wee set of 4 in front of my Buddha and its roasting .
I'd certainly advise buying a big pack of 8 hour t-lights if you dont want to put your heating on,they really do heat a room up quickly
