I know I am preaching to the converted, but isn’t vinegar amazing? Ever since I was very small - over 65 years ago my Mum used to rinse my hair after washing with a little vinegar to make it shiny - no fancy products in those days. I have a refilled spray bottle of dilute vinegar for cleaning kitchen surfaces and it has proved amazing at removing burnt on bits from the bottom of my enamelled Le Creuset casseroles! Unwilling to attack the inside of one this morning with anything too harsh, I have just boiled up an inch or two of vinegar then wiped the inside with a washing up brush and it’s as good as new. I use the cheapest white vinegar and swear by it. Any more suggestions?
I fill small spray bottles with a mix of water, vinegar and surgical spirit and use to clean my glasses. I have them hanging round my neck and they get really dirty. Also use it for cleaning anything Ifeel needs anti bacterial treatment.
I drink cider vinegar slightly diluted with water and also added honey. Lovely drink and allegedly good for you. I also soak my feet in cider vinegar and water to treat my fungal nail infection. That helps too and keeps my feet soft. White vinegar helps clean the detergent tray in the washing machine and stops the machine smelling. Brilliant stuff.
Ah vinegar - from the gods. Why can't we buy 5 litres of white vinegar here on our supermarket shelves? I use mine in a spray bottle with a bit of Fairy washing up liquid. It does everything imaginable from windows to whizzes around the bathroom. With a bit of baking soda added to it goes crazy- in the oven/work surfaces/absolutely everywhere.
I hate vinegar too. It was the trigger to start excessive vomiting when I was pregnant and it still happens if I get a whiff. Cleaning surfaces with it would flatten me.
I am a recent convert. White vinegar in the washing machine drawer to soften things and clean the machine. I will now obtain a spray bottle and dilute it for general cleaning. So would that be 50/50 for cleaning kitchen table tops? I remember hearing that it could be used to clean furniture but would hesitate unless I had proper instructions.
I unscrew the shower head and soak it in white vinegar. Anyone with lung problems should think about doing this. I had a non contagious form of TB which is caught from compost and steam. (NTM)

I do this as well… excellent for removing limescale
Pickled onion vinegar on chips is ace. We hardly ever have chips at home though, and I only really buy pickled onions at Christmas, so it’s a rare ‘delicacy’ indeed.
A dab of vinegar on a piece of kitchen roll cleans the glass door of my multi fuel stove like magic - a tip from my chimney sweep when I asked what was in his squirty bottle. I’ve been using white but ran out last week and can confirm that the ordinary brown bog standard vinegar works just as well!
Dogsmother how much do you use and what compartment does it go in please? Fleurpepper how much did you put in the dishwasher was it in the main part and leave for 1 min before turning on?
Apple cider vinegar, which you can easily make yourself if you have an apple tree in the garden for practically nothing, is marvellous for removing rust from chrome, glazed tiles, porcelain sinks and basins etc.
Just never use any vinegar on marble or terraso! It ruins these surfaces.
Breaks down the built up soap deposits on stale face cloths. Softens the laundry water - no need for fancy fabric conditioners. Dissolves limescale on the shower head.
I have always been a fan of white vinegar. When I was young there wasn’t anything else. Everything from salad dressing to cleaning windows. Put in washing machine drawer, clean drains etc. I buy five litres at a time from Amazon.
My grandad used to also slice up fresh onions and put in a dish with vinegar which was served with the roast beef, so quite light, not like pickled onions. I love onions to be roasted round the meat but that used to be good if you had forgotten to do that. We also used to have cucumber put in vinegar with salad, and my grandad again used to be the only one I knew who always put a little sugar on them with salad for some reason. Rather off the point but I am with you all . vinegar is a very useful and cheap way to do things - that is why they dont talk about it as the manufacturers would like us to spend a lot more money on their fancy version!
