Bungalow on an awkward plot - to buy or not?

We are deliberating whether to buy a corner plot bungalow we have seen. The house seems OK, built in the 80-s, in sound condition and spacious enough, but the back garden is small and shallow – only 7m (23ft) deep and 14m (46ft) wide. The garden backs into other shallow neighbours’ gardens.

The garage with a driveway are awkwardly positioned from the other side round the corner, so it is a bit of a walk with your shopping.

The shallow garden does not give a scope for extension. In addition, the chimney is placed between the kitchen and a lounge, protruding into the kitchen, making it difficult to fit a kitchen or take a wall out to create an open plan (which is what we ultimately want). The house needs the usual renovating with a new kitchen, bathrooms and carpets, but this is reflected in the price, which is unusually affordable for us.

The property has been on the market several times over the years but did not sell and we are worried it will be difficult for us to re-sell it later on if we need to.

If you are not 100% certain about the property then it is not for you. Anything you feel uncomfortable about or have doubts about will always be there.

The problem is that with limited funds there will always be compromises and some of these will be fixed forever and many will change. Children tend to grow up, older people (and animals) may die.
No saying what neighbours will be like in the future, wherever you go. If you were looking at moving next to a school or (say) a lumber yard I'd say no - but other people's children and radios are part of life (and not all the time).

I don't honestly think a peaceful hideaway in the area you are looking will be available on a £500,000 budget RusBun.

Furthermore, in the summer even a large garden will not protect you completely from neighbour annoyances - living near the elderly will (probably) mean louder TVs and Radios, living near children will (probably) fill the air with shrieks and shouts... and even generally quiet little dogs bark sometimes. I hate barbecue smells which invade my space and make me go back inside and close windows- they did so in our previous (huge) garden just as they do now in our much smaller one!
