Dishwasher advice

I have recently bought a new Bosch with a drawer for cutlery absolutely love it. I do put in rinse aid but decided not to put in salt apart from once and it is brilliant. I use the Fairy platinum plus tablets and they are excellent.

I’ve a Miele too, it’s given over 20 years service , used everyday and, I hope I’m not jinxing it by saying it’s still going strong

Miele - simply does what it’s meant to do very well.

We have had a Miele for 19 years and it developed its first ever problem two weeks ago. We ordered a new outlet hose from the Miele web site, fitted it by following You Tube and its now fine again.

Looking to replace our dishwasher, which I have been very displeased with. Despite regular cleaning, and refilling with salt and rinse aid, it regularly doesn’t clean well.
It’s quite a cheap model and wondered if it’s worth paying a bit more? Any advice welcome 🙏🏻

We eat in the kitchen and spend most of our time there, so quietness was very important to me. Ours is a Bosch with a top cutlery tray, delivered and installed by John Lewis.

I bought a Hotpoint dishwasher in 1979, I had to replace last year!! Yes indeed 45 years old.

I had a Bosch for 22 years which gave me no trouble, performed well and was still going strong.

When I moved house and had a new kitchen installed I decided that it was time to retire the old machine. Naturally another Bosch was the choice.

Terrible mistake! Dishes are never dry despite employing the ‘extra dry’ option, cutlery and pans often need to be hand washed afterwards. I’m so disappointed and will be changing to a different brand when I’ve had it long enough to be able to justify doing so to myself.

I too have a Miele. My last Miele washing machine lasted 25 years!

Siemens here (our 2nd). Had it for about 12 years and it has had to work hard for much of that time. Very quiet - visitors often think it’s not running! Endorse all comments about cutlery tray. Do use a cleaner every month or so to keep it clean and smelling good. Only problems we have had are when debris (broken glass, then a chicken bone) have blocked the impeller preventing it from draining - operator error in both cases!) Straightforward to operate and gives good results.

When we moved here in 98 I wanted to bring my dishwasher with me… Hubby told me I was silly as the new house came with one… a Whirlpool… the engineer was here more often than not, we thought the neighbours would be talking 🤣😂🤣 ended up paying for an upgraded version which lasted a few years. We then had a Miele with a cutlery tray and use Fairy Platinum but not the lemon, apparently lemon isn’t good for Teflon… really pleased 😀

Try a different tablet. We like waitrose tablets (not the cheapest).

Miele for me, the dishes are always sparkling clean and dry.

I have a cutlery tray and use miele own brand tablets, I buy in bulk when there are special sale prices. I do use dw cleaner a few times a year and also clean the filter every so often. Just me on my own and could manage without a dw but will not do without my miele

I included my last one when I sold the house as there was a cheap one included in my new build. I quickly had that replaced with a miele. I have had Bosch in the past, they work ok but miele is best as far as I am concerned

I found the loss of headroom while tiny, nevertheless significant and I like being able to pick up the cutlery basket while emptying the machine and take it to my kitchen cutlery drawer.

Have had a John Lewis own brand for about 15 years, and touch wood, no problems with it. Don't use rinse aid or salt, just a good brand of 3-in-1 tablets.

Mine is a Neff, still working well after 14 years.
One thing worth checking on your existing machine, if you haven’t already done, so is the spray arm. If any of the holes are blocked it makes a big difference to how clean your dishes are? Mine unscrews, then it’s easy to dismantle and clean - I mention this because I sorted my mums out a few weeks ago, she didn’t realise.

I think that if you live in an area with very hard water you do need to add salt, whatever claims the tablets/ capsules make.

We do live in an extremely hard water area and don't need to add anything if we use good tablets.

I have a Samsung that replaced highly unsatisfactory Bosch! Pump failed twice in two years. I have had the Samsung about three years admit has developed the same problem as the OP. The repairman bass and there is nothing wrong with it. Herecommenedfrequent use dishwasher cleaner and cleaning out swirls barrister every couple of washes. This seems to work.

I have a Miele dishwasher and it washes and dries really well. I find the cutlery tray on the top so much better than a basket.

This dishwasher is about 15 years old and the Miele before that did 20 years heavy duty for a family of 6.

Miele are expensive but they do a good job and last for years.

Me too! All my kitchen appliances are Bosch, and I wouldn’t buy anything else.

I used to do outside catering many years ago. My Bosch dishwasher never let me down so when it needed replacing I got another Bosch. Very happy. I find Fairy 3 in 1 tabs best (we have very hard water)

I agree with RosieandherMaw. Our new Hotpoint dishwasher came with a cutlery tray, it didn’t get the cutlery as clean and dry as the basket and it was such a faff having to take everything to the drawer to put away. I’ve purchased a basket and don’t use the tray at all. Other than that I’m very pleased with it.

We have a neff dishwasher. Cleans brilliantly even when stacked more than it should be.
