Agree there is no excuse for fly tipping. That includes blowing all the autumn leaves into heaps in the street, clogging up drains and causing wet, slimy patches when it rains.

I see red every time I see a woman near me with her leaf blower blowing all the rubbish from her garden out into the road. I pointed out to her she was fly tipping and she said 'Don't be ridiculous, it's just some leaves'.

The wind blows everyone else's leaves into our garden!
There are some large trees, too, and the leaves pile up at the front door and garage door.

Even the other day, we were clearing dead leaves!

Yes we're the end of a cul-de-sac and we get piles of leaves as there are a lot of trees around. Autumn is busy but we are clearing them up all year round.

Sadly we also get all the loose rubbish that is left lying around - I know it's not ours because it's not stuff we buy.

Still, it's a small price to pay for the privilege of living in such a quiet, private little spot with no cars passing by

Try appliances on line, aol. Rather than their delivery lorries returning empty they will pick up most u/s white goods for a fee of around £20. Worth a try.
Scrap metal dealers round here won’t take fridges/freezers because of the gasses contained in them.

Councils will remove it for about £20.
As has been said, scrap men won’t take refrigeration items because of the gas they contain.
If you get anybody else to remove it you MUST ensure they have a waste carriers licence because if they just dump it in a field or lane YOU will be prosecuted.

surely it would be best to check dates for pick up BEFORE putting the old one on the pavement. But should you not arrange for supplier of new one to remove old one on delivery, for a fee.

There is NEVER an excuse for fly-tipping.

But where do you keep it in the meantime?

We've got an old fridge, working well, clean, in the garage but no-one wants it free of charge. It seems a waste to just send it to the tip.
More money than sense round here, methinks.

We don’t have any free bulky waste collection service, you have to book a collection date online with the council, and pay for removal.

There is somewhere in Abergavenny which will take bulky items for a fee; they picked up a bed fairly quickly. If they couldn't sell it, they strip it down to components to recycle.

We have a system to book slots at the tip - it works very well, and there is no queueing and hanging about. A neighbour said he had bought a new fridge, put his old one in his work van - his only vehicle - and taken it to the tip, only to be turned away, as he was not allowed to bring white goods in a commeical vehicle. He had to take it to another tip around twenty five miles away. There is no excuse at all for fly tipping, but you can see why it happens at times.

I live in w/York's our tip has been closed it covered a large area only tip we can use you have to book and queues are ridiculous there as been a increase in fly tipping.

I think much fly tipping is by unscrupulous firms which take away items for householders - for a fee - but then dump the items in a field somewhere. Farmers then have to pay to dispose of the items.

We get 2 free hard waste pick ups per annum . People don’t fly tip much ,though, at least not anywhere round here. If you go to the tip yourself it costs a bomb and you need a trailer which we no longer possess. The costs don’t encourage anyone to bother, short sighted of them.

LovesBach we have the same system and it works really well and the place is kept remarkable clean by the staff it really runs like clockwork and all free I think it’s wonderful

Why are there queues if you book a time slot Hulahoop no queues at our ‘book a slot’ tip something going wrong with your booking system

I always pay for large electrical items to be taken away by the deliverers they take all the packaging as well I think it’s around £20 extrac and well worth it

If the council miss a bin and you report it (easily done on line) they aim to return within 5 days and that’s always happened with me I m the only person with a green bin in my block (around 20 houses) so occasionally the green bin men forget me but they ve always been back usually within a couple of days if my reporting it

That used to be the case, but now as domestic tips become more restricted, it is possible to see quite small quantities of stuff, no more than a car load, dumped in lay-bys and even residential streets.

Our local tip stopped taking any DIY materials, their definition of 'DIY' got more and more restricted, a few small offcuts of MDF found in the garage when moving were defined as 'DIY materials' and rejected.

We ended up cutting everything into small pieces to put in the dustbin. All our domestic rubbish went to an incinerator that used all the domestic waste to produce electricity.

I have just returned from a trip to the tip in the pouring rain. I was wet dirty and furious when I returned home. I had a bath as soon as I got in. I had to take my rubbish to the tip because the refuse collectors were unable to empty my bin because some *&\$ parked their car in front of it.

As they only collect household waste every two weeks it would have meant waiting a total of four weeks before it was next emptied. I agree there is no excuse for fly tipping.

If our bin doesn't get emptied we just have to phone up and tell them and they come back, usually the next day, sometimes the day after.

I am well aware of that. I had spent most of the morning trying to get them to do that and they refused as they said it was my responsibility to see that my bin was accessible.

I have lodged a complaint and I am so furious about it that I am thinking of going to my MP and the press. Rubbish collection where I live is far from adequate at the best of times.

people appreciate an extra in the garage, outhouse for overspill
when we bought a new one we kept our too small fridg freezer in the back boiler room, for regular drink and drugs, the turkey, then huge trifle, frees up space
Ive seen sacks of compacted leaves offered too, for mulch and composting, people will have anything, even a bag of old broken belts, stripped for the buckles apparently, trash to treasure
‘far from adequate’ sums up the feelings of many of us paying whopping council tax

I put it on the local free cycle FB page - no joy!
Questions like - is it a tall fridge/freezer, is it American style fridge/freezer?" No, it's just a fridge! "Oh, no thanks".

We will get around to clearing the garage soon!

I just happened to mention to my hairdresser ( as you do) that I had a fridge/freezer I no longer needed. She said her husband would love it. He duly collected it and I got my next haircut free! Great arrangement!

My sister lives in an Inner London borough and I live in the South East. Her house is worth a great deal more than my flat but she pays less council tax.

She has a weekly collection of household waste, recycling, kitchen waste and garden waste. I have an alternating weekly collection of household and recycling and if I wanted a garden waste bin I would have to pay about £85.00 a year for it. There is no kitchen waste collection.

Down the road from me, under a different council, they have a weekly collection of everything but their council tax is even higher than mine.

The services offered seem to vary tremendously from council to council as does the amount of council tax you pay.

Our council has a booking system too so I booked a slot for the tip for yesterday afternoon and duly turned up at the appointed time but as nobody checks the cars entering the site I was a the back of a very long queue. I spoke to a couple of people about this and apparently "nobody bothers to book, you just turn up". This begs the question why does the council run a rather complicated online booking system?

I booked and paid for a special uplift of an old suite. Payment was made the same day the assessor came out on 15 May, the items are still on my driveway. I contacted the council by email on 8 July, still no response so I phoned them on Tuesday only to be told they hadn’t applied the payment to my request. Still have no idea when it will be picked up
