Slide and hide ovens

I’m going to replacing my current electric double oven and gas hob with an electric hob and single oven with slide and hide oven. Does anyone have one? What are the pros and cons if any, please tell me before I make an expensive mistake.
It will be under hob oven as annoyingly there is nowhere I could put it at eye level. I understand that you can slide shelves all the way out and for instance baste meat without having to remove the dish from the shelf is this so? Thanks

I was advised by a ( professional) oven cleaner that there can be a problem with any spillages falling straight onto the floor when the door is opened.

I don’t have a slide and hide oven, but the shelves of my Stoves built in oven are designed to slide all the way out safely.
I think I’d be inclined to rest a hot dish on the nonexistent oven door if I had a slide and hide.

I have 2 slide and hide ovens. The fact that the door slides into the oven is a God send, and it means you can reach right to the back of the oven quite easily. I'm not sure what you mean regarding the oven shelves; mine are just your usual oven shelves, you can slide them out easily, just like most oven shelves. I can't think of any disadvantages of having a slide and hide oven, for me it has been a success.

Thanks everyone Curlywhirly my daughter was concerned that the drawers wouldn’t be sturdy enough with a heavy meat dish to pull it out for basting for example but you have put my mind at rest. I will continue my search for the right one.
cerazyH they have them on bake-off if you ever watch it.

I like mine. Having said that, I don’t push it all the way in if I am taking a casserole out, as I balance it on the door (Neff say not to do this).
It’s great for cleaning. I can go all the way to the back.
We got a set of the sliding brackets with ours, but my friend with the newer oven didn’t, so check.
Ours is high up. I don’t know what you will gain from it being near the floor.

Ah, I didn't know that. Mine are just bog standard shelves, without the secure runners. I take any dish completely out of the oven if basting.

Was going to suggest best way to go.
Cooking is much faster. Safer.
I put a paper towel under my pan, prevents glass from scratching.

I had a slide and hide because my oven is close to a doorway.

I like that I don’t have to lean over an oven door to get into the oven. I didn’t like that I couldn’t rest the tray/dish on the oven door before transporting it to the draining board. my door slides in automatically. No halfway house.

I had to learn to trust the shelves being pulled out rather than reaching into the oven. The hide and slide has extra stabilisers to stop the shelf tipping up as J52 says. I think this is important.

On balance I think I’d go for hide and slide again especially as leaning over the oven door has got more difficult.

Just looking at my oven door. It’s not that deep when fully extended, as the hinges are hidden, unlike a normal oven door that exposes all the hinges, so the door is more exposed, if that makes sense.
Our old oven was low down, had to kneel down to the side which was getting hard work.

I had a hide and slide oven door, wonderful for access, but very hard when cleaning. Despite having full instructions to remove the door, it was just far too heavy for me to manage. I resorted to a professional oven cleaner. In the end I changed oven.

I have always yearned for one of these slide & hide ovens. However, could never afford one. The company that makes them must have such a very strong patent on these, as other manufacturer has ever produced one.
They are usually the ovens used on 'Bakeoff'. One of my daughters bought one when doing her kitchen and loves it.

They are just amazing, easy access, extra safe and no reaching. I’ve had one for years and didn’t hesitate when I moved home and bought a new one.

I have had one for about 20 years. Love, love it. I do not think it would be advisable for a low one. Mine is waist height which enables cleaning right to the back without any problems.

You are quite right frenchie3 I went into a local electrical store and the guy there was very helpful and said that he couldn’t see the advantage of one near the floor and advised me not to waste my money. So I’m going to just get a Neff or Bosch single oven and matching induction hob as at the moment it’s gas and I’ve not used gas for cooking for about 40+ yrs I hate it. So thanks for all the advice it’s disappointing but never mind.

I have had a slide & hide for about 4 years & love it. The only issue I have is cleaning the door. It has many layers & is very heavy. It gets stained between the layers. I clean the inside & outside & hang my oven gloves over the handle to hide the marks between until I can take it apart.

My sister had one, but she said it encouraged her to stand closer to the heat at first, so be aware of that. She also said the door was awful to clean.

But if you are changing from gas to induction hob, it takes getting used to. It will stay hot longer, so you need to adjust your cooking times. If you move the pan off, then the heat will stop, but you will have indicators as to whether the plate is still hot. You may need new pans.
