Do any of you bother with pedestal mats in the bathroom?

I have always had a matching bathmat and pedestal mat, but lots of shops now only sell bath mats.

Why have pedestal mats fallen out of fashion? What are they even specifically for?

I’ve never bought a pedestal mat . I’m not sure of their purpose either .

They are to soak up urine spills from men who don't bother to aim when peeing, and piss all over the lav, seat, floor etc.

Civilised men teach their sons to aim straight, put the seat and lid back down, flush, and wash their hands.

A pedestal mat serves 2 purposes - keeps your feet warm if you’re bare-footed and absorbs the splashes, from the menfolk - that’s what I think anyway 😂

Yes, delightful, isn’t it?
In the early stages of dementia, my FiL insisted that his neighbours had stolen his manky old pedestal mat.

In fact a sister in law had taken it away and burnt it!

But who wants to put their bare feet on a urine splashed mat?

Well, I suppose it is better than paddling in wee.

I do think in the days of carpeted bathrooms and cloakrooms they served a purpose - yes, men, I’m looking at you - I’d rather boil wash a pedestal mat than have a stained carpet.
No need now though.

Carpet in the bathroom 😱

I just pull the bathmat across for me, then put it back by the shower (we don’t have a bath).

Mine is around the base of my sink- am I doing it wrong lol?

NanKate Sun 07-Dec-25 20:23:58

Yes when my grandsons visit. I have never noticed any soggy mess thankfully 😅

Not everyone's OH splashes!

For those that do... train them to wipe it up.........🙄 or try...?

(excluding those who are unable of course)

BlueBelle Sun 07-Dec-25 20:43:40

No I don’t like them and even when there was men in the house I never had them snd never noticed puddles on the floor either I must have had good aimers 🤣

M0nica Sun 07-Dec-25 20:46:32

I think of them as being unsanitary. I want to see any drips so I can wipe them up.

As it is, it is not a problem I have.

Or they sat down and aimed in the right direction...

I don't really know what a pedestal mat is but I think my granny had one years ago if it's that thing that fitted around the toilet.

Sarnia Sun 07-Dec-25 21:56:34

I don't bother with them. As much as a grubby breeding ground as a toilet brush. Yuck!

Astitchintime Sun 07-Dec-25 22:02:34

Dreadful, disgusting, as well as being a trip hazard!

tanith Sun 07-Dec-25 22:31:22

Wouldn’t give one house room horrible things.

crazyH Sun 07-Dec-25 22:42:06

For those who don’t like toilet brushes, tell me , how do you clean the bowl ?

Gingster Sun 07-Dec-25 22:56:24

I have several so change and wash them regularly.
Since DH’s stroke hes not very steady so we do have dribbles.i wouldn’t want the laminate floor absorbing the wet, so the mats are crucial.
