Everyone seems to have one cleaning trick that makes life easier. What's your favorite tip or hack that actually works and saves time?

Dylis

Not owning an iron.
Smooth and fold when getting off the line. Put shirts on a hanger and hang straight not the line.
My lovely neighbour showed me how to do this many years ago.

I do own a semi-retired iron but I find that if you pull things into shape while they are still damp, hang them carefully and do what Dylis: wrote, they don't need ironing.

This seems to work particularly well with cotton jersey tee-shirts and polo tops. The shirt tip works well too.

What works for me is switching my brain off, putting the radio on, and just getting on with housework first thing in the morning. If it’s not done by 9.30, I leave it until tomorrow because a day spent on housework is my day wasted.

Dri-Pak sell lots of natural products for cleaning and you can get them on Amazon as well. www.dri-pak.co.uk/our-products/

There are plenty of tips if you go to the tab marked 'Knowledge Base'.
There's a useful one under Bathroom Cleaning Tips/Toilets. If you live in a very hard water area you can get limescale in the toilet bowl which is very hard to remove. They recommend a packet of Citric Acid dissolved in hot water overnight, and it works!

Marry a man that likes housework!

Never leave a room empty handed.

Georgesgran Fri 17-Jul-26 15:49:56

That’s reminded me of my household motto Stansgran - A journey upstairs empty handed is a wasted journey. Unfortunately DH refused to accept it!

In a similar vein , don’t put it down, put it away.

Bar Keepers Friend is the answer for stainless steel sinks. Somebody on here recommended it once, I bought it and it was every bit as good as she said it was. I also bleach the sink out every weekend with a scourer pad.

Yes! I’d forgotten about this, it’s fab!

I fail at this a lot, but tidy as you go. Spend 10 minutes tidying before you go to bed.

Getting a cleaner, and treating them like royalty so they will not leave…

Charleygirl5 Fri 17-Jul-26 16:43:05

Resting if I wish. The dust will be there when I am long gone. I also have a fabulous cleaner and I have no problem stocking cleaning equipment and washing the myriad of cleaning cloths I supply

SpinDriftCoastal Fri 17-Jul-26 20:47:08

Everything in its place and a place for everything.

Pimmi Fri 17-Jul-26 21:02:37

No ironing here either - my mum is probably turning in her grave!

Oreo Fri 17-Jul-26 21:05:47

Bleach on a damp/wet cloth cleans stainless steel sinks and draining boards a treat.Just pour water on afterwards to get rid of it and you have a sparkling clean and germ free sink.

Oreo Fri 17-Jul-26 21:07:31

I do ironing regularly, tho not if the weather is very hot.Buy the best you can afford in an iron and also ironing board as it gives better results.I steam press everything .

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 17-Jul-26 21:13:29

Hire a cleaner.

Oreo Fri 17-Jul-26 21:19:29

Is everyone on here pretending they never do housework? And if so why? Just to sound cool?😎

The condenser in my tumble dryer is always full of dog hair. I was going to buy a washing machine hair trapper thinking that they did, indeed trap the hair but they just get the hair off the garments. I suppose it means that there won’t be as much hair in the tumble dryer as it will be better removed in the wash but dies that mean my washing machine filter will need de clogging? She isn’t even a very hairy dog, being a whippet.

Don’t be surprised if your washing machine backs up.
There definitely will be hair in the filter.
