Everyone seems to have one cleaning trick that makes life easier. What's your favorite tip or hack that actually works and saves time?

A water softener.

Is everyone on here pretending they never do housework? And if so why? Just to sound cool?😎

Yeah, it's very strange. Usually people are boasting about how frequently they change their sheets or clean their windows. Now suddenly no-one does any cleaning at all. 😂

If your clothes are creased, hang them in your shower room while taking a shower. Watch how the creases disappear 😳

I’m an ironer and always have been. I find it quite soothing with music or the tv in the background. I even used to iron cloth nappies when the girls were babies. Completely batty, I know. Only once a week, though.

I am another ironer!

I am not criticising those that done but I love our bedding and clothes crisp , something you can only achieve with an iron.

I view house work as a workout!

I do downstairs one day and up the next, floors downstairs are mopped fortnightly and alternate weeks I do different extras such as light switches and fittings, removing all sofa cushions and vacuuming, windows etc.

I have to have order, it’s who I am.

So my cleaning tip is to have a routine and stick to it.
I use as many natural products as possible.

We do not have clutter which makes life easier, since moving last year we have kept on top of accumulating stuff and I regularly put clothes on Vinted.

I can’t say I love cleaning but I love the finished result.

My favourite job is hanging out washing on the line, especially sheets

To answer the question, putting dry washing through the tumble dryer gets the creases out to save you ironing❤️

Btw I like the elbow grease cleaning products. They are pretty cheap compared to other brands. The oven cleaner got that horrible brown stuff off the glass without even scrubbing

Thank you for the citric acid recommendation for cleaning toilets! 🚽

I like ironing, too. I prefer my linen and my clothes ironed, so ..
I've been making my own green cleaning materials, from Nancy Birtwhistle's book, but have a secret stash of Barley Keepers Friend and bleach for when all else fails.

My mother, who had a full-time job as a nurse, ironed knickers and bra straps. I haven't used an iron for at least 5 years. I keep it, in case. I try and line dry clothes. I don't possess a tumble dryer.

My Mum used to iron knickers, too. She said it killed germs - the mind boggles.

I had a friend who ironed terry nappies.

Pledge Fluffy Dusters are very good for removing the dust rather than just swirling the dust around with a cloth.Makes dusting easy.

My sister ironed knickers and socks. I enjoy ironing but I don’t take it that far.

I have a biodigester so any sort of bleach fest is out of the question.

I use bicarb and vinegar quite a bit.

I have a long-handled dustpan and brush which is a great help for anyone with a painful back/hip.

I also have a lovely lady who comes in once a fortnight and clears up after me ......

JaneJudge Sat 18-Jul-26 10:45:53

to be fair, there are some medical issues that can affect you 'down there' where the NHS recommend ironing underpants

Visgir1 Sat 18-Jul-26 11:05:18

Besides having a cleaner.
Use a damp cloth to clean /Hoover your stair carpet. I was told this year's ago and my cleaner always does this as well.

This isn’t a tip for the OP because it’s obvious she doesn’t really want to know.
But for anyone who is interested these dusting gloves are brilliant.

Not exactly regular cleaning as such, but you can get biro marks out of fabric with ordinary hairspray.

When we had both dog and cat, I always went over the stair carpet with a damp sponge cloth, to collect the hairs up before vacuuming. (Not that I did that anything like every day…)

Divide jobs up into five sections and do a little bit (one section)every day. Reward yourself when you've finished something.
