Pensions for grandkids

Would you start one? Knowing of course that you would n't be around to see them benefit from it.

It's a very good deal. For every 80p you put in, the gov gives 20p, and just the minimum amount would be worth having in fifty years time.

But still...... Perhaps feels a bit odd?

I think if you have to offload extra cash it's probably a good idea to skip a generation.
Just as long as you don't alienate your kids in the process!

Yes. But this one is just so long term!

Oh, our rivals friends seem to like the idea here

Bare trusts are another way of saving for grandchildren, but have the disadvantage that they can get the money at 18.

The present Duke and Duchess of Northumberland went to court to stop their son, Earl Percy, from benefitting from a trust aty the age of 18, fearing that he would 'fall prey to vices'.

Jingl thank you for this suggestion which I'll look into. I'd like to find out whether putting a lump sum of a few thousand now would be of more value long-term than leaving them the same amount in my will. Given what's happened to pension funds over the last few years their funds may be worthless in 50 years or might guarantee them a contented retirement. Oh for a crystal ball!

Yes, exactly. I wonder who would keep an eye on the fund too. I Have come to the conclusion it's a good idea as a one off amount, but don't think I would want to keep adding to it to build up a high amount. Too risky.

Nice to think they would be reminded of their own granny and grandad when they are of an age to be grandparents themselves. smile
